This is a PG-13 movie but my 7 year old boy wants to see this. Any issues if I take him? The reviews I read are not definitive.

Some say PG-13 is appropriate some say it isn't that bad of a movie for kids.

Any thoughts?

Absolutely. No sex, bad language (except from Lois once), or even blood. Now it's violent, but not in a "bad way" IMO. :star:

Do you think MoS will go the way of Superman Returns in that the reviews started positively then tapered off due to word-of-mouth negativity?

I liked SR when I first saw it, but liked it less and less after further viewings.

Nope.

Honestly, I liked SUPERMAN RETURNS at the time as SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE is one of my favorite films of all time. SR is, no doubt, a love letter to that film and it under-performed for that reason. People were ready for something different, and it wasn't. (Ironically, MOS is getting negative reviews for NOT being more inline with the Donner film and that there's "too much action!")

I posted the following on my site earlier regarding the negative reviews from many mainstream, but "uppity," critics...

Don't let the negative MOS reviews bother or keep you from going to see it. Quite frankly, most of the bad reviews are from mainstream "uppity" film critics who 1) Don't like Zack Snyder, 2) Have an agenda against Chris Nolan because he was their "indie darling" who had the nerve to make Batman films, and 3) they still do not respect superhero cinema and fans of the genre. Sadly, I thought 'THE DARK KNIGHT' changed all that, but it hasn't. It seems if a comic book film is "serious" and isn't popcorn fluff, then it "sucks." Wow.

Trust me, critics don't like Zack Snyder and there's HUGE backlash by them towards Nolan. These are the same critics who LOVED THE AVENGERS, but now don't like MOS because it has "too much" action? Please!

My advice: See it for yourself and decide.

Best comic book movie I've seen. Better than TDK and Avengers. Just fantastic. The action is like you've never seen before. And the feels. My biggest worry was Cavill and he knocked it out of the park.

The action might be my biggest criticism and disappointment.

Saw it tonight, 10 out of 10. Amazing.Epic. The action was insane. I agree better than the Avengers and TDK.

I see a lot of the reviewers who disliked it liked IM3. I thought IM3 was a huge disappointment so that could be a good thing.

Yeah. It's sitting at 58% on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment.

I still plan on seeing it though.

Well I am surprised, since you have used RT as the end all be all, you should have serious problems with the film.

I said it was a solid movie, not bad at all. It felt a bit cold though, and the action was a bit one note (Superman flies into someone -or someone into him-, buildings are destroyed...repeat!).

I wouldn't put it anywhere near TDK (or Begins), Avengers, or Iron Man (not the 3rd one, that kind of sucked).

Superman is fodder for critics. You literally can't please everyone. There are people who didn't like the movie because it wasn't the same Superman from the 70s, which is nearly exactly why Superman 3, 4, and returns were such bad movies...

The movie matured, which is exactly what a superhero movie has to do in this day and age. Michael Shannon wasn't the best superhero villain in a modern comic book movie. He isn't the Joker or Bain. I would say he was somewhat along the lines of Rhas Al Ghul, but certainly better than any villain in any of the marvel movies.

People want to compare Superman too much to Spiderman. And I can see that in the reviews. Superman is one of the most powerful characters in comic book lore, I apologize that he doesn't stop robberies in this movie... Really not at all that appropriate for the scope of this movie.

He was better than Bane and Ras, but I don't think you'll ever find a better villain than Heath Ledger's Joker so it's not quite a fair comparison.

I don't think he was better than Bane, but I guess that is where our opinions simply differ.

I'd say he was better than Bane (who ultimately wasn't that great) but not Ras, and not as good as Loki (as far as a character, not how effective he was).

None of my criticisms have anything to do with the previous Superman's or Spider-man's, but simply elements of poor storytelling. The only thing I would say in relation to other movies was I felt there was a few ripoffs, most directly the Matrix, and a little bit of Avatar at the beginning on Krypton.

Everybody says that it will open at $100M at the box office and the other movies that fall beforehand, will not at all pale in comparison. Even that new comedy with Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill, and James Franco.

It was good, I don't think it was better than TDK and Avengers was more fun overall. I think it takes an absolute magician to not have Superman come off as campy, and Snyder managed that.

I love Michael Shannon, don't see how anyone can complain about his performance other than they didn't get a chance to see how it could have been ruined by a lesser talent. I don't think it was at Joker level, as Joker was an iconic performance, in the end, people will probably forget Shannon's Zod.

It's definitely better than Avengers. I can see an argument for TDK. But as to Avengers, there's really no question that MOS was better. Avengers is just a comedy movie that has cartoon-like action. Lots of fun, but it's not a movie of quality. Many of the characters are just laughable. Half the plot is entirely pointless. But the comedy and the light-hearted action make it a lot of fun. Nothing wrong with that. It just doesn't qualify for "best of the best" type discussions.

Yeah, Avengers is a fun movie before anything else and I'm okay with that. Superman actually felt like the foundation to something. I just think it's easy to bag on a superman movie, he represents this flawless symbol of an incorruptible and omnipotent America and that's not so in vogue right now.

57% at Rotten Tomatoes. OUCH.

It's funny, because depending on your opinion that makes it extremely underrated. But with most fanboy opinions on the net, I'd say the film is ridiculously OVERRATED. Better than TDK or Avengers....lol come on now. I'd venture to say that Rises is even better than Man Of Steel.

Great movie. Jett was right, I've seen it twice and enjoyed the 2nd viewing even more. Imax 2D is the best way to see it.

I could watch the battle of Smallville over and over again. It's unbelievable.

On a related note, I believe Hans Zimmer could have made John Carter a watchable movie.
