A man in Ohio was arrested Saturday night after entering a showing of The Dark Knight Rises with a loaded gun, among other weapons.

According to police in North Ridgeville, Scott Smith, 37, had in his possession a satchel containing a Glock 9mm handgun, ammunition clips, and three knives. He had an additional knife strapped to his body.

Jeremiah Bullins, an off-duty police officer moonlighting as theater security, became suspicious after seeing Smith enter the Regal Cinema theater 30 minutes before the movie was scheduled to screen. He followed Smith into the theater and asked to search his bag.

Anything like this can happen anywhere at anytime, don't let some idiots win by living your life in fear.

 Not sure why anyone is upset about this unless they are worried about the loss of personal rights that used to be guaranteed by the Constitution. Illegal searches etc.

At any given time I have both a gun and a pocket knife with me. That is not illegal. Did he brandish his weapon or threaten someone? When did random search and seizure become law of the land?

Am I missing something?

He had a gun in a bag without the proper permity = illegal.

Was it conincedence that he showed up 30 minutes early to get a seat in the middle of the last row?

Do we have to wait for him to actually open fire????

Stash...I tried to edit my comment. Too late.

Edit my previous response. He did not have a permit. I guess he should go to jail for the rest of his life after all.

Should every person without a permit serve life in prison for having a gun in their possession? Seems kinda overboard to me.

Yes.

Yes he did.

Any concerns about the possibly illegal search? Showing up a half hour early to a movie is not grounds for a search is it?

But what would you suggest, especially after what has just happened both in Colorado and Wisconsin?

Does it look like our current policy is working?

What would you have them do, wait for every nut to actually open fire and kill someone before they act?

This guy obviously won't get life in prison.

I'm not interested in going back to the Wild West and everyone wearing a holster walking down the street.

I'd like to give us more credit as a race to go forward rather than backward.

None whatsoever.

Bags get searched when you enter public events.

Don't want to get searched?

Stay at home.

Showing up 30 minutes early to a popular movie doesn't seem that uncommon to me. I see it happen quite often especially with people who want the premium seats in the middle of the theater. I am betting they saw something else that made this guy stick out. His mannerisms or something else.

The title of this tread is misleading as there is no evidence this man was ‘going to recreate TDKR Massacre’. His lawyer has stated that the man's reason for being armed was b/c he was scared over what happened in Colorado and wanted to protect himself.

As for the search, it is not illegal if he was asked and then complied.

And what would we expect the guy's lawyer to say?

I think a bag full of weapons, coupled with showing up 30 minutes early to sit in the middle of the last row of the theater against the wall, adds up to lethal intentions.

I'm not waiting around until these clowns open fire.

Yes, it's not illegal for them to search any bag you're carrying when entering a public venue. (unfortunately, especially when trying to sneak beer into a concert!)

Likely the big bag of weapons...
