I hope Dallas signs both Kevin Barry and LeCharles Bentley. We could then afford to overlook McNeil and go after Lawson. He and Ware would absolutely terrorize quarterbacks.

Defensive End | Senior | North Carolina St.
Manny Lawson
Height: 6-6 | Weight: 245 | 40-Time: 4.59
mannylawson.jpg

Official Bio

Strengths:
An amazing athlete with rare ability...Has outstanding speed and quickness with a great burst...Extremely explosive...Tremendous pass rusher off the edge...Good agility and can drop into coverage...Smart player with good instincts...Good tackler...Makes plays in space...Productive and can be very disruptive...Vertical jump is higher than the device used to measure that stat...Has a lot of upside.

Weaknesses:
Vastly undersized...A DE / OLB 'tweener who may not have a clear position at the pro level...Struggles to defend the run...Needs to get stronger...Gets engulfed by massive offensive tackles...Doesn't always play with good leverage...Needs to use his hands better...Is he just a workout warrior?...Relies on speed heavily...Won't be a fit for every team and will need to be in the right system to succeed.

Notes:
Competed as a hurdler, long jumper, triple jumper and relay runner for the Wolfpack track team...The prevalence of the 3-4 defense in the NFL will likely help Lawson's case as he would seem to be a prototypical OLB is that scheme.

Guess that would come in handy when attempting to block a FG.

Or knocking down passes when his pass rush gets stuffed. Or jumping up and snagging INT's ala Urlacher in the playoffs.

I would prefer a stout LB who specializes in run stuffing. Ware should be good enough to generate a decent pass rush.

• Manny Lawson, North Carolina St.
6050 240
* Tall, lean and athletic.

These are Lawson's actual reported height/weight from the Senior Bowl Weigh-In's. Excellent size potential for a 3-4 OLB.

In my mind that is Bobby Carpenter. He was very good against the run and can cover most backs and tight ends. He could improve on his blitzing, though thats not terrible either

I have been reading up on this guy and he reminds me so much of DeMarcus Ware its sick. This guy is probably a bit more on the Athletic side than D. Ware (he was a track all star in college too in the agility type events) but I think D. Ware is a bit faster, not much though.

I am no expert in the 3-4 scheme, so I dont know if having two premier pass rushers opposite of each other is a good thing or not. IMO I would say yes, and I would swap side with them often to force the OTs to game plan for 2 players and keep the OLBs fresh and egos checked on who is rushing the blind sides.

This guys Special Teams talent just sells him even more... with a 37 inch vertical (and the 45 one I guess that he did too) he can have his hand upwards of 13 feet on FGs.... that is amazing.

If this guy has anywhere near the personality and general good nature disposition that DeMarcus Ware has I really hope they go after him.

that's a very good thing, but also in our scheme, our OLBs are asked to drop into coverage alot, which Lawson can do

Does anyone thing we can trade down from the 18th pick, get an extra 2nd round pick, and still get Lawson at maybe the 23-25 pick?

we'd only get a 3rd round pick doing that, but yeah, I think we could pull it off...now

How far do you think we would have to trade down in order to get another 2nd round pick, and do you think Lawson would still be there?

not sure, there's a draft pick trade value chart somewhere, I'll see if BigD can hook it up for you

about Lawson, all depends on his workouts, if he does great, he'll go mid-1st

I have him recorded at 4.43 40 with an outragious vertical.

Only a 3-4 can use his services, and the 3-4 guys I have listed will not draft a Hybrid DE/OLB in the 1st round.

I tend to agree - its a long shot a 3-4 Hybrid goes round 1 this year.

Cleveland = DT

Steelers = No need for 1 - they have Haggans and Porter

Patriots = Probably a running back

Texans = Reggie Bush or a QB

Chargers = Secondary Help

Do the falcons run a 3-4?

49ers = Probably a Tackle or something.

Cowboys = We can trade down with like the Texans/ Give them Our 18th/ We take their 2 and 3, and Possibly a 6th.

So we can get Lawson Early in the 2nd and have an 18th in the second followed by another early 3. Not to mention what we can get for Ellis or Glover.
