Marinelli to take over as DC

Did not read through all the posts, as I'm sure most are the usual complaints and remarks without warrant. LOL

I think this was the plan from day one that Marinelli would take over as DC in 2 years. But with all the injuries, and obviously many new players next year, this was the right time to do this. Get them all learning Marinelli's way. I said after the season, the best thing was to promote him, make Kiffin a consultant. Title here doesn't matter, who cares about a title. [except the SB title]
This is a good move and the right time.

JG will take a step back from his passing games planning, and now will focus more on running the team as Jimmy Johnson did. Linehan can take that over from JG, and Callahan can still put together the run game planning, and OL.
I also think this is a good move.
Bryant will benefit tremendously from this, then that opens up the run, then Murray benefits from it too.
More coaches in this case, means better production. Egos and feelings will be checked at the door. I think these moves are very good. and it keeps consistency.

Is that you Jerry? Seriously I'm sure I could find the exact same post word for word from last offseason. It's INSANE how some of you fall for this garbage year after year after year.

Seems simple to me. It's all about pass defense. Keep adding corners until it's fixed.

I like it. They seem to be taking the same attitude toward coaching. Just keep adding coaches until it's not a problem anymore.

I take the same approach when I'm mixing myself a drink. Not strong enough?? Just dump some more vodka in.

Wait, this drink is way too strong now. I'm going to dump some vodka out. Damn, now it's not strong enough, and all I did was pour half the drink down the drain. Ok, start over. The drink is still too weak. Going to add some more booze...

Damn, I put too much vodka in AGAIN. Should I try to pour some out again or just add more mix?? Decisions decisions. I'm going to add some more mix. Ok, a little weak, but almost there. Just a little more vodka... And perfection!

That's how you make a drink, and that's how you build a football team efficiently. Go Cowboys.

Just drop a few million more on another man corner. Problem solved.

It actually hurt us badly last year before we brought Moore back that we only had two press CBs and Webb. We were playing man, with virtually no pass rush. Then we lost Lee, Durant, Sims and MLB and were unable to cover there, too. One more press corner would have let us offset the rush problems by blitzing, and would have helped out a lot when we needed it.

Former safety John Lynch on WFAN right now. Not surprisingly, he had great things to say about Monte Kiffin. He says..."Kiffin was regarded as one of the best def coords in NFL history and now he's a bum? I dont think so. But I also like how they have now tossed Marinelli into the kitchen and he gets to take the heat, while also keeping Kiffin around to pick his brain."

Ehh. I pick my battles to complain about. I would've preferred to see heads chopped at the end of the season...but this isnt a big enough deal for me to gripe about.

Monte isn't a bum, the game has just passed him by. His performance at his last 2 stops have proved that. It happens to the best of them, including Tom Landry. The dude is well past the normal retirement age.

I agree Bobby. Like I said, I'd rather see him GONE...out the door....so long...BUT him sticking around in an advisory role isnt something I can get worked up about. As we all know, but some down want to admit, these types of decisions all stem from Coach Jones and his inability or unwillingness to relinquish control. As a football executive, Jerry Jones is a disgrace. A total embarrassment.

He's an advisor, cause Jerry has to PAY him if he fires him. He is gone next year.

Just when I think Dallas can't do something to surprise me, BAM!!! Jerry surprises me! Kiffin is given a celebratory title and Callahan gets demoted but keeps his title.

Does this mean after another amazing 8-8 season with record breaking defensive plays that all these guys get raises????

What's this now, 7 or 8 different defensive coordinators in 10 years??

Jerry's still looking for that magic coach to get all this "talent" he acquired to gel

We have now had 5 different coordinators under Garrett in 3 years time.......................always somebody else's fault when it comes to trainee Garrett.

I'm not sure why I have the reputation for defending Jerry Jones. Sure, I'll go to bat for him when someone claims he causes cancer or global warming, or whatever, but he's clearly been a dysfunctional force in the organization here from the moment he bought the team.

But that situation is never going to change until he's dead, so the interesting question really is 'how do we get a competitive team with Jerry as the owner/GM.' The answer to that might be 'we don't,' but, short of that, we need to have the right coach who can steer the team despite Jerry's interference and build a culture and provide a stable platform for multiple drafts while we clean up the cap. I'm in the distinct minority, but I think that person is Jason Garrett. If it's not, I don't have the foggiest clue who it might be, instead.

I tend to think if a head coach is still in training 4 years after being hired, he might not be the savior of the franchise................but maybe that is just me.

Look at the quality of our pass defense relative to the rest of the league under Garrett. It's been the same problem, three years running.

And I don't think we beat the Saints, either. Especially not without our rush players and Sean Lee when we're setting in zone with no pressure on Brees. There's no hope in a situation like that.

And I can't fathom why my pointing out how lamentably bad the defense is always is taken as an excuse rather than a criticism. I go out of my way to say in each post that it's entirely on Garrett to have fixed the defense and, while he's addressed it, he's failed to fix it. The only point is that the pass defense is what gets us beat, so it's the pass defense we should be complaining about and the pass defense we should be doing everything possible to fix.

Then why are we changing offensive coordinators/playcallers like underwear if its the pass defense that is getting us beat and its the pass defense we need to do everything to fix?

It's not just you. It's you and a couple dozen other frequent CZ posters, at the very least. Though, I never categorized him as the savior of the franchise, myself. I do think he's a good head coach.

We've added Scott Linehan. And we'd added Bill Callahan two years ago, and he's still with the organization. You change your underwear every two years, and leave the old pair on after doing so? Because that's gross.

You boys are only getting Kiffin's abbreviated title. The full title is:
Administrative Assistant to the Pseudo Head Coach / That defense Guy

Unless we add some talent to the front seven and maybe one good safety, marinelli won't be able to turn this defense around. We need to hit on 3 new starters on defense this offseason.

.
What has JG done to make you believe he is a good coach?

Bears D Coordinator 2010-2012 ranked (9th,17th,5th)...it seemed almost agreed upon that he would take over this season when he signed on as DL coach with Kiffens age, etc. I just hope he can incorporate more man Defense to accomodate the "talent" at CB.

Was Marinelli a true DC calling the defenses or was he the defensive equivalent of the offensive coordinators we see in places like New Orleans and Green Bay where the HC calls all the offensive plays?

I wonder how heavily involved Lovie Smith was.
