Marinelli to take over as DC

I've asked this question for four months now. Since obviously you disagree, tell me why he is a good one. I keep hearing where our DL was horrible, and that we had 46 different defensive linemen. So answer a couple of questions for me please. If he did such a good job coaching the DL, why were they horrible? If they were all new players, fresh off the street, how and when did he have a chance to coach them? Statistically we couldn't have been any worse, so what did he do to make it better? Will someone please enlighten me?

Yeah. You think he could make YOU an NFL player?
The guy had to deal with potato chip eating, soap opera watching guys off the couch week after week.
Who's going to make that successful?
He churned like no one else trying to find some talent, any talent to soldier for him.

He did the best he could with the tools he had.
He made a guy called Selvie into an NFL player.
This cat was a nobody before then.

He had guys thinking about applying to Albertson's doing the best they could for him.
The Cowboys were lucky teams weren't running for 250/game on them.

His Star DL man was injured all season and the rest of the guys were either gone or missing games or playing hurt or had ZERO talent and he still had them going full speed.
There might not have been the talent he might have wanted, but he never let them quit.

Now what the hell do you want a coach to do in that situation?

Well, his defense in Chicago ranked 3rd, 14th and 4th in point allowed. They weren't very good this year without him.

As far as this past year, think about this....there were points in the season where NONE of the guys in his rotation were regulars on any team a year ago. Not even rotational players....anywhere.

Lets see....
1. The two defensive coordinators who had one of, if not the worst defense in history, get promotions.
2. Callahan took an offense that was blah to serviceable gets demoted.

Sounds about right

Seriously, I don't care who the DC is next season, neither had anything to work with. They lacked serious talent before the injuries took their toll. As for the offense, that is just a mess. It also won't matter who calls the plays, they are all using the same mundane scheme. Instead of hiring new play callers and passing game coordinators, just hire a real OC with his own ideas and scheme. Romo would be fine learning a new one and it would not set him back three years. I guess that is too much to ask considering this is a do or die season for Garrett, hopefully anyways.

This teams lacks stability and identity. There is no clear direction of what they want in a defense or an offense, they are just trying to fix the leaks and plug up holes hoping for the best.

Maybe two.

Yep, just saw the report on ESPN that Callahan is being kept around in case he needs to be the interium head coach next year if Garrett has to be fired mid season if the wheels come off this thing.

So looks like Garrett and Callahan would both have to go before Monty takes over.

On the bright side, at least Jerry is now considering the possibility that his trainee really does suck.

I want every coach on this defense to be working in Cleveland. Let them figure out if he can coach there. But, we will see this year. It can't get worse, so even if we only allow 35 first downs, and 350 passing yards a game it ill look good for him..

Can't argue with this, I hope y'all are right. Anyone but Kiffen is an improvement...

Aaaaaaaaaaand no answer to my question while I respected you with a direct answer.
He was the DL coach, not the DC. That guy was Monte Kiffen.
The guy has been in the NFL proving his worth for years.
Not as HC, he failed at that, but he isn't the HC, is he? He was the DL coach and now he's a DC- which he has excelled at.
You think someone's career begins when he joins the Cowboys?

You complain about asking something for months and hypocritically don't answer someone's response when you get one.

Feel bad for Monte Kiffin. Dude was staying in different hotel at Senior Bowl than most Cowboys coaches. He is being Jerried.

I guess he got voted off the island................funny how the OC and the DC both get demoted and pseudo fired while Garrett stands around clapping.

Not including himself, this is now 5 different coordinators who have been selected under Jason's command.

I bet it took Landry or Jimmy at least twice as long to accumulate that number.

Jason is so far ahead of schedule on his way to becoming a great coach it isn't even funny.

By the time Jerry sobers up and realizes his trainee sucks, we will have gone through a dozen coordinators trying to prop him up.

It is stating to turn from laughable to sad at this point..............good teams don't change coordinators like they are underware.

This is not to argue with you, I might just be in agreement, but...
The word is "underwear".
Not to be a spelling ****, but this the second time I've seen you spell the word and it's bugging me in a visceral way.

Otherwise: love your posts...

I really dont see how a fan of the Dallas Cowboys could have a problem with this. They could have just fired Callahan and Kiffin, but instead you keep two extremely experienced coaches on board. One being a former Head Coach.

You then promote Marinelli to D Coordinator, a position he's had great success with in the NFL. Hire Linehan to call the plays. A guy that has called plays for one of the more high scoring offenses in the past few years. One who saw his All Pro receiver have one of the greatest years ever for a WR. We happen to have a receiver we all complain doesnt get enough looks.

Come on people, quit being so negative to every move. At least they are making moves, and not sitting still. Callahan is terrible as a playcaller, but is a great offensive coach to have around. Monte is past his prime as a D Coordinator, but his experience can be put to use.

Awesome.

So we had a defense that set NFL records for sucktitude last year, and our response is 'promote' the DC to Assistant Head Coach and the DL coach to DC.

Meanwhile we demoted the OC and hired a new guy to take his place, but not really because we are not letting the other guy actually leave.

I can't fathom how this won't all turn out better next year.

Just trust that this is how ALL franchises are run.

So they are 'demoting' Kiffin AND Callahan? Why can't they just fire coaches like a normal team?

I think they're going to just mute Ole' Monty's mic in the booth. They aren't going to tell him he isn't in charge.
