TIDBIT:

3. Mario Williams.

The No. 1 pick in the draft by Houston, he's already been labeled a bust because he has just five tackles, one assist and no sacks. Yes, it was probably a mistake for the Texans to pass on Reggie Bush. But a bust? After two games? On a bad team?

Hold off. Yes, Julius Peppers, Jevon Kearse and others were instant successes as rookies. But Michael Strahan, perhaps the most consistent DE of the last decade, is only slightly better this year than Williams: nine tackles, two assists, no sacks.

I'm glad we didn't give up on people like Gurode/Bradie James/Patrick Crayton/Romo, and the list goes on.. Why do people expect you to be supermen in your first year?

While it's way to early to call him a bust...It's not to early to say that the Texans are stupid for passing up Bush.

High five to that one. Sometimes, people want to outsmart everyone, and wound up out smarting themselves.

I was working out the other day and watching NFL Network and they showed some moves and plays that Bush made and I was like WOW.

I thought right then how stupid Houston was.

Williams better be Reggie White...Because that's the Only way you take him over Bush.

If you have last week's Sporting News, former NFL Network guy Brian, I think his name is Baldinger throw Williams under bus hard. Basically that he's not a fast twitch guy like Rice, Freeney, etc. Say he won't live up to the #1 pick.

Well just be glad Parcells and Jerry didn't have a chance to pick between the two, because Williams was #1 on our board and you can guess who we would have picked.

I disagree. I don't think Bush will be nearly the pro player he was in college.

I think Bush will be just as good in the pro's. Not taking him first is gonna look stupid 5 years from now.

bad move for the texans, but it takes longer for dlinemen to adjust to the NFL than RB's. that said I always wondered if he has enough motor and desire to ever be a bigtime star.

When you're the #1 pick you'd better make an impact or show potential to be special, especially if the guys you pass up are successful.

None of those guys were the #1 pick of any draft. The first five picks of the draft are supposed to be the elite of the elite, the cream of the crop, and instant contributors. The #1 pick cannot be chosen on potential, this pick must be NFL ready from the eve of kickoff of the rookie season.

Mario Williams has shown absolutely nothing thus far, and looks like he should have been drafted in the second round. I think he was even benched his last year in college. I see him as a name that just creeped up at the last minute, like several other d-linemen in recent years.

The Texans screwed the pooch royally on this pick, and based on what I hear on my many recent trips to Houston, the fanbase is still fuming over this pick. They would have been better served to pick Bush, or trade down and draft o-linemen. They surely could have found a trade partner, sitting on the number 1 pick and all.

Mario better turn out to be better than Julius Peppers (an instant contributor). What hasn't helped his cause is that the Texans moved him to defensive tackle for part of training camp. They want him to move around, and they haven't let him get comfortable playing DE.

If Bush lives up to the hype, and Mario does not, the Texans fandom will be looking for a warm tub of water and a razor blade.

OK, Let me think of some names that I have heard around here being labeled a bust:

Marcus Spears: frequently
Jason Ferguson: frequently... yes, a FA, but frequently labeled a bust FA
Julius jones: probably every other week
Fasano: yes indeed, I have heard it here.
Carp: all the time.
Ware: not really a bust, but a disappointment compared to you know who.
A. Henry: frequently when he didn't return to form last year.
T. Newman: I guess a CB covering like a glove just isn't enough.
Bledsoe: another every other week.
Kosier: and this was before he even played for us.
Roy Williams: not really a bust, but people still question who else we could have drafted early in that draft.

Point is, we have alot of people around here that have very clear crystal balls or glass ones.......

The problem with Williams is that he's being used on the wrong side. He should be playing on the opposite side of the DLine. He's not going to be a HoFer, but I think with the right guy playing where he plays now and him on the other side, he could be an 8-10 sack a year guy that simply plays well all the time (like Ellis). The problem is that they drafted a guy that should have been taken around pick 8-15 #1. This isn't that dissimilar to when the Falcons took Aundrey Bruce. Dallas didn't even have him as a first rounder.
