Mario Williams already been labeled a bust?

Is our 2006 Draft Board posted? Are the Cowboys' boards since 1960 posted? Any chance a muscle biopsy could be taken at the combine to check for twitch? Is a blood test enough?

The only reason I know about Bruce not being on the Cowboy's draft board that year is because Gill Brandt was talking about it a few days ago on NFL Network on Sirius.

Bush hasn't done anything either. If Mario is a bust so is Bush.

Mark me as one that believes Mario will be a bust or just average. He looks very slow and gets easly overpowered. Now Bush has shown some killer moves. I also think Vince Young will be a star someday.

The problem with Williams is that he's being used on the wrong side. He should be playing on the opposite side of the DLine. He's not going to be a HoFer, but I think with the right guy playing where he plays now and him on the other side, he could be an 8-10 sack a year guy that simply plays well all the time (like Ellis). The problem is that they drafted a guy that should have been taken around pick 8-15 #1. This isn't that dissimilar to when the Falcons took Aundrey Bruce. Dallas didn't even have him as a first rounder.

Maybe it's my football ignorance showing, but how would flipping sides help Williams?? He's on the right side correct?? So typically the strong side. More runs to his side I understand that. But isn't the LT typically the better of the OTs? Would it really make that much difference having him flip sides?

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Not a bust yet but I'd put some serious money down that he will be widely-considered a horrific bust after the next couple of years. Yes, he does have almost the exact body you would want for a Defensive End but have you ever heard of the saying, "looks like tarzan, plays like jane?" Well that's Mario. This was a guy who, while at North Carolina State, routinely took plays off, was reportedly a horrible teammate, and at one point was even benched. And you're seriously going to pick him over Reggie "Mr. Heisman" Bush and Vince "Hometown Hero" Young, giving this average at best Defensive End a $54 Million Contract?

I suggest Houston fans petition the NFL for a new Franchise. The one they have now is clearly broken.

ESPN insider has a blurb about how bad AJ Hawk is playing.

What has Bush done? His numbers are very pedestrian at this point. Mulroney and Addai have numbers that compare very well.

It's way to early to judge this stuff.

When you're the #1 pick you'd better make an impact or show potential to be special, especially if the guys you pass up are successful.
I see your point, and if Aikman was judged on his 1st year in the NFL (being the number 1 pick and all) he would've been out on the streets... And oh what a shame it would be.. BTW, I watched all of his games in 89, and he showed nothing.

Thats because being a QB and being a DE are almost the exact same thing..right?

You would think - He will be judged because Houston was expected to take Bush, and he will always be judged based on who the world thought Houston should've taken.

I personally would not judge any player on 1 year of service. However, in the second year, he has to atleast show flashes of greatness.

I disagree. I don't think Bush will be nearly the pro player he was in college.

no kidding. bush was a much better pro while he was in college.

Every time I've watched Houston play (a couple pre-season and buzz by's the last couple weeks) they've had Williams at RDE. I just checked their web site and they have him listed as their starting RE.

To me, it is obvious he's on the wrong side. He's a classic LDE.

If you have last week's Sporting News, former NFL Network guy Brian, I think his name is Baldinger throw Williams under bus hard. Basically that he's not a fast twitch guy like Rice, Freeney, etc. Say he won't live up to the #1 pick.

Fast twitch...lol alright. If you mean a "small edge rusher" then yea that's not Williams. Not Richard Seymour either.

TIDBIT:

3. Mario Williams.

The No. 1 pick in the draft by Houston, he's already been labeled a bust because he has just five tackles, one assist and no sacks. Yes, it was probably a mistake for the Texans to pass on Reggie Bush. But a bust? After two games? On a bad team?

Hold off. Yes, Julius Peppers, Jevon Kearse and others were instant successes as rookies. But Michael Strahan, perhaps the most consistent DE of the last decade, is only slightly better this year than Williams: nine tackles, two assists, no sacks.

I'll continue to believe Houston screwed up by not taking Bush or at least trading out of the #1 spot for more picks. Having said that I think it is far fetched for anyone to be claiming a rookie in week 2 of the season is some how a bust.

Bush has his own ESPN commercial, so clearly he is the better player.

I don't think he showed "nothing". He had two pretty good games if I recall correctly. Definitely one, where he lit up the rams for 350+ yards and 4 TDs.

True, he also had a very good game aginst the Cards his rookie year even though he was KO'ed late in the 4th qrt but even on that play he threw a perfect strike on a deep post for a TD.

I'm one that believes that Bush will not be as successful as you think.

has he even scored a TD yet?
