Marion Barber signing going to come back and hurt us

Honestly, I was shocked that he was signed to a 7yr deal. I never would have done that, but to say Barber isn't a special player is crazy. He's the type of player I want on this team. He doesn't talk and he let his play talk for him. Yeah he didn't have the best yr, but I really hope we go back to the 2 back system we had the yr before.

Remind me when Ware was performing at a high level in a lesser role and when put into the starting line up, faded away??

There's no comparison so quit trying to act like there is one. Ware is THE elite pass rusher in this league. Barber is not even an elite back.
And after he signs his big contract and only has 14 sacks in a season, people will claim that he's no longer an elite passrusher. Or better yet, gets injured like Barber and only has 8 sacks in a season. We will rue the day we sign Ware to a longterm contract.

Oh yeah. He's definitely a special player. Not to mention, He gets our collective blood pumping a little faster with every carry. There is something to be said for Jerry going overboard when paying out these contracts though.

Who wouldn't want to have our problems at RB? :) We do have a true three headed monster at that position and hopefully our offense next year is schemed to utilize what is obviously a position of strength.

Actually, they will say he got his big payday and doesn't care anymore...

That's what they ALWAYS say. But you are correct in that someone will be whining about it.

I think the big contract we gave him will hurt us. He has not been able to produce this season. He only averaged 3.7 yards a carry almost the worst in the NFL and both rookies averaged more than he did.

Geez Louise!!!!!

He had one bad year DUE TO INJURY

He's been a TD machine since his second year in the league... go back and look at the stats.

wake up Cowboysfan22... I'm not ready to give up on him by a long shot... we'll get the running game re-vamped next year...

By the way, he did try to play through an injury.

He did not have a good yr, in fact his yr was very much like the player that so many on here wanted gone (J Jones).

That said, had Jones not re-signed Barber 90%+ of this forum would have been going ape over it, so its unfair to criticize him for keeping the guy.

Barber needs to have a good yr next yr, otherwise he may well become a cap casualty for 2010 when there may not be a cap in place, thus we'd be cutting him for "free". Jones seems to truly believe the uncapped yr is coming will give him (and numerous other teams) an out from some of these contracts.

Even before he got hurt he was not having that good of a yr, and he fumbled too much.

We all like the guy and we are a better team when he is playing well, but he did not have a good yr. Him and Hamlin definitely gave us little return on the investment this yr.

I was part of that 90%+. :D I must say though. I was surprised by how much Jerry gave MB3.

I can see that happening the day of his signing. He does not get the sacks at the right time of the game... he wears down at the end of games...wonder which others will come out, oh I know something to compare him to Merriman when he was juiced. We are going to pay a lot for this guy, just get over it and be glad we have a hall of fame player this young and this healthy to enjoy and provide us with hope. Imagine our defense without him.
Barber is right there with Demarcus we are less than average without him. Choice and Felix have potential energy no doubt, the real kinetic force is Marion.

Oh there's no doubt that will happen. In fact as soon as he gets his big deal this off-season we'll probably see more ignorant posts about how he didnt deserve it because he didnt get a sack in that season ending debable at Philly.

yea, I can hold Jerry accountable.

Barber thinks he's Earl Cambell, he ain't, that's about all I've ever said about him.

Yeah, and they'll go into the mantra that he gets his sacks in garbage time, not when the game is on the line.

I think someone already touched on that...

1. MBIII got and played hurt.

2. The O-line played like crap the entire year.

Given those circumstances I would expect a dropoff in his production.

Barbers average or 3.7 yards per carry is low because he runs all of those 3 and 1, 4 and 1, goal lines, etc....

You guys might think I'm crazy but I do think we could trade Barber and be more than OK with Choise and Felix; that is if Felix ever comes back. Choise is more than able to come in, be the starter and an every down back. In my book, Choise was the biggest surprise this season with the cowboys.

actually that's what he did when he was averaging 4.8 ypc before this year, not this year as the starter.

I am not going to write off Barber after this year, but he wasn't hurt the whole season and Choice was much more effective behind the same line.

I have a feeling it will become apparent that Barber is much better suited for the role he played prior to this season than he is suited to the role of every down back.

I agree... the only problem is that he is getting too much money just to be a back up...
