Jones has proven that he can tote the rock 30+ times a game and come back the next week and do it again and still be successful. I know Big Bill is a football Guru, but I wish he'd forget about Jones size and just give him the ball. Jones is more than capable of being an EVERY down back.

I don't have anything against III, but I only want to see him 5 or 6 times a game.

this could be trickery, its a skins fan!

good post, i agree!

You guys are jokes. MB has shown to be a good back- nowhere has he come CLOSE to being great. Great means doing 200 yd games; taking over games against GOOD opponents (playoff teams, not Arizona). MB has NOT done that. And it is not likely he ever will because he just does not have it.
ANd no back in this day and age can take the ball 30 times a game game after game without breaking down and getting beaten up. JJ did it three in a row but he was fresh and it did not happen again. Look at Earl Campbell- as big and strong and as tough as he was in 5 years averaging 27 per game he was breaking down. The NFL TODAY has too many big strong guys that hit and tackle too hard for any back to tote the rock 30 a game and be able to last. GIbbs ran POrtis like crazy late in the season and he started fading. By the playoffs he was done. 25 per game is the absolute limit any back should get and it should not happen more then 3-4 times in a row. NO ONE can take that kind of punishment long before he starts to fade.

so far most people here have said he is good and is capable of being a COP back for JJ and could be a good 3rd down back. JJ is in no way capable of going a full season with 30+ carries, but no1 is saying that, he could go 3 or 4 games like that, since he has done it, but like you said he will breakdown. like i said before JJ 20-25 carries (most likely 20), MB 10 carries and TT 5 carries = 40 carries.

I think both are great talents, but the big thing to remember is that they are both still very young. Julius is entering his 3rd season, Barber his 2nd. So it's still a bit premature to label either of them superstars or busts at this point.

I like how Julius came on strong in the 2nd half of his rookie season, but then he started off slow last year and got hurt again which too me is a major concern. I thing to consider is his inconsistency, but you do have to like the fact that he ran for 200+ yards against 2 playoff teams in his first two seasons. In fact if not for the big day at carolina we might have been dead in the water.

As for Barber he has shown the same 'flashes of brilliance', but didn't really have any 'monster' games last season, but he was consistent with his carries. Also I alluded to in another post that he seems to be a better blocker and pass catcher, which is going to be key in this offense given Bledsoe's statuesque play in the pocket.

I'm just glad that both of these young thoroughbreds are on this team and both will get their chance to shine in 2006. And don't forget about Tyson Thomson, he's definitely a good change of pace back as well.

Barber is the better blocker period, and Barber is the better pass receiver period, and Barber is the stronger runner, more polished, better vision, hands down on all those things, which means he is the better RB.

Jones is the faster of the two, that is the only thning he has on Barber.

guess that's all he needs because Parcells has pegged him, not Barber, as his franchise back, but I don't believe you, Julius has a lower center of gravity, which gives him greater balance, and his vision is better, evidenced by him doing so well running draw plays, also 3 of the top 5 single-game rushing performances in Cowboy's history belong to Julius, 2 came his rookie year, none to Barber, not to mention tying the rookie record Earl campbell shares with 4 straight 30 carry games

I echo Big Dog

Julius >>> Barber

They might fear MB3 as a punishing runner. He was really dishing it out on Seattle's tacklers last season.
I love how the guy finishes off runs. He seems to explode into tacklers.

could not have said it better...

I still believe that Julius Jones is a great talent, and very well could be a 1400+ yard type of back. But the question is will we ever see him stay healthy for an entire 16 game season, in addition to a potential of 3 or 4 playoff games....or CAN he stay healthy for that matter?

i dont think there should be a real concern for him staying healthy. they are more or less freak injuries. i mean who breaks a shoulder, seriously. and sprained ankles happen all the time. i would be more concerned if they were conditioning problems like pulled muscles. Unless JJ is generally brittle, his injury problems should not be a serious concern.

The MB homies will be very disapointed this year as JJ keeps getting 20 or so carries and MB gets 10-13. BP will go with the back that is hot and MB is never more then lukewarm.

I love how when he's about to be tackled he takes that lunge forward like he's trying to bust through a wall head first. And that is the one thing that has always stood out to me about him, and in my book rates him much higher then the unpredictable oft-injured Jones. The injury thing with JJ is a trend that has seemingly followed him now from college to the pros. There is warrant for concern there, great warrant. I would be very happy with a RB switch this year. I think MB did more then enough to show he's capable of a true TC competition for #1. The kid just has determination that gets us first downs and touchdowns, atleast that's what he did last year with it. JJ on the otherhand though could easily drive himself to his next injury by showing too much determination. Two totally different RBs, I feel Barber is the better fit for us. Maybe we should think about just unloading JJ while he's still worth something and going with Barber even if he is our 2nd best. 16 games is a helluva lot better then a possible 1400 yards. 16 games starting and Barber is easily closing in on that type of number- especially this year with TO in the lineup. Jones will never get that unless he stays entirely injury free...which is sure asking a lot - or more like crossing our fingers and closing our eyes wishing 'n hoping as hard as we can. It's like people expecting Glenn's rookie season over and over, only to see injury over and over tripping those dreams short everytime. Too many people are looking to those couple of games JJ's rookie season and praying he gets back to that "form". I have high doubts that will ever happen.

The Answer thinks we are fortunate to have two great young talents like Julius and Barber. Most fans don't realize they are two completely different backs. Julius is a burner with explosive open field speed and Barber is more of an elusive power runner.

If I had to pick a 'starter' today I would go with Barber simply because he seems to be more of a complete back and has yet to miss time due to injury concerns. But looking at the bigger picture we need both of these young bucks to stay healthy and contribute, no matter who starts and who comes off the bench.

I think it is great we have such a great option who has a very different running style than J.J. He is a great 3rd down back anything that forces the opponet to gameplan for 2 backs is a good thing.

I think J.J. is the real deal and will continue to get the bulk of the carries. MB3 will be a great backup and 3rd down option.

At the end of the day, that is the most likely scenero. Nothing wrong with that either.

I still prefer my JJ as the featured back. I like Barber, but hes no Jones when Jones is Jones. When Jones is not Jones, Barber is better. But Jones will be Jones this year with an Oline. If we dont have an Oline good enough to block for Jones, it dont matter who we have out there.

I like having the combination of both back. Jones will get the majority of the snaps but having a tough north/south runner like Barber is very helpful as you move into the red zone and need to pick the tough yards.

Jones >>>> Barber

Barber is solid but what has he done in his 1st year. Yes he came in and relieved Jones for a couple of games, but so did T. Thompson. This is a no brainer Jones should start and in certain situations Barber can come off the bench and relieve JJ.

Barber ran for 1 -100 yard game last year and several people thinks he should start over Jones??? PLEASE......................
