If I’m not mistaken isn’t this DC # 4 for Liufau ? It would seem this is make it or break it year in Dallas and if he were offered contract 2 in Dallas next year it would seem to be a Sam Williams prove it nominal amount type contract .

As a Will LB you send on blitz packages try and devise ways to use speed to harass the QB . His coverage skills should not be bottom shelf maybe CP can squeeze some toothpaste out ? Another 3rd rounder hitting potholes in the road. Compare this pick to this years 3rd rounder out Michigan yes another LB . Seems night & day difference so far .

I think Liufau would be happy to just make the team this year. With them moving him to edge he’s up against a lot more competition for snaps. Realistically he might need some help from injuries in front of him to make the final cuts. Massive uphill battle for him taking on a new position.

He’s a spaz on the field. High motor, will bust his ***, you’l never have to question his heart.

But that leads to playing out of control at times, being out of position, etc.

If Parker can rein him in, he can be a piece for this defense. If not, he’ll be gone after this year.

EDGE under CP.

Edge ? As an opposing OC i see Liufau at Edge I’m running right at him until Dallas stops it .

I keep forgetting he exists.

Excellent analysis . Where he’s seen as an Edge is a mystery . Any OT worth his paycheck gets his hands on Liufau he’s disappearing. Doesn’t have the stature or weight . Sam Williams gets swallowed up a good deal let alone this ex Notre Dame outside LB

I think he could be a trade candidate.

Any market ? Teams will wait to cut down day if they have any interest . Tolbert Liufau some recent 3rd rounders you have to wonder did the board fall that way or was a scout this impressed ?

Not sure. But if a team needs a LB as opposed to trying him as a pass rush type OLB. He could be traded for a late round pick.
As it seems Dallas has a crowded group competing for only so many spots.

I noticed similar, almost like a flag waiting to happen.

Yeah I’m not so sure this guy lasts. If not, yet another third blown. That’s shaping up to take over as being the new disaster round. The fourth is clearly the throw away round for trades when Jerry wants to play GM.

Let’s get Trey Lance! Wonder if he is still “pinching himself” over acquiring Milton.

Agreed.

I don’t like his chances

Good point.

But I tend to think that if he doesn’t get it - and fast - he won’t make the team this year.

It was absolutely a Mike Zimmer decision. You can look that up and verify it.

That’s part of the problem with this team. They make long term decisions on a short term basis.

They knew Zimmer was a short time hire and they allowed him to influence their long term draft process.

Dumb.

EDGE under CP.
I think that's a bad spot for him

I saw initially they were gonna put him there, but really assumed once we added a few bodies he'd slide in behind Overshown.

I don't think he makes it to week 1 without getting dealt. Probably for another guy in year 3 or possibly year 4 that's in danger of being cut, and I can see him having more success elsewhere.

Liufau was drafted under the Mike Zimmer regime, and he seemed to play pretty well for him. Then under Eberflus, they didn’t appear to have a role for him. I do like his effort and football make-up but we don’t know a whole lot about him at this point.

I will say that the few things I’ve heard about Liufau since Christian Parker arrived in Dallas have been positive.

It seems to me like he plays much better going forward than in reverse. I think one of the things Zimmer liked about him was his ability to get after the QB, because Zimmer liked to send those A-gap blitzes. That is just speculation on my part though.

He has the length to put on some size for edge but would it be enough to hold up there? I don’t know. It seems like it is a long-shot at this point for him to carve out a role in that edge group, but at least they’re giving him an opportunity to show what he can do there.

If I had to guess now, I’d say he probably has to move on… but crazier things have happened, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

I’d love to be able to get something in a trade for him. I’m just not sure he currently has any value.

Hate to say it, but I doubt it. Doesn't seem to be able to play assignment sound football. Sad, because this kid has the necessary passion and toughness.
