The dude was such a turd.... Who in the world doesn't like Wit! Lol. I don't think I've heard of anyone not liking him...

Both Witten and Romo learned from the Peyton Manning school of educating rookies/competition. Which is to not do it.

Peyton was infamous for refusing to give a single rep to a backup in practice.

Bennett is a sensitive guy and a knucklehead. Bad combination in that sort of situation.

This was also 9 years ago, Witten was not in decline and had absolutely no reason to be taking a guy that might replace him under his wing.

Only over the last few years have we started to see Elder Stateman Witten, who actually praises rookies publicly.

I heard Witten wasn't very nice to him. I don't know if it was because Marty B was a knucklehead or if Witten felt threatened. Witten was in his prime, so I guess it's the knucklehead thing.

Yeah I think it was probably a mixture of what you mentioned. Also Martellus wasn't shy about letting folks know he felt he was a starting caliber player. Everyone kind of writes him off but i don't think Martellus would just make up how cold their relationship was while in Dallas.

IIRC the story went that Witten was willing to help him but that Bennett just didn't want to take advice. I think that was amply demontrated in Hard Knocks given his defiant attitude when he was being told to hold it "high and tight". He wasn't serious at that point about being the best he could be and that attitude doesn't play well with Witten.

That man could block, though. Devastating at times.

Witten tried to give Martellus some pointers when he was a rookie, but Martellus rebelled.

So Witten turned his back on him.

Ancient history. I moved on a long time ago.

I think this is true. You have to remember that Witten came in under Parcells, who was a huge believer in complete TEs. I don't care if you were Tony Gonzales, if you couldn't block, then you couldn't start for Bill Parcells. You also have to remember that Witten learned the position from Dan Campbell who was one of the best blocking TEs, one of the toughest guys I ever saw in Football. Campbell was brought in, by Parcells, to teach Witten and Witten understood that he needed to learn what Campbell could teach him. When he tried to do the same with Bennett, MB just looked the other way. I can see why Witten didn't like MB overly much.

So basically he got tired of being told to "Be like Witten" during his career here. He was on some teenage girl rebellious ish and wanted to be his own person and do things his way.

Then he leaves Dallas and ends up trying to be like Witten.

Damnit Martellus.
He was a 21 year old immature kid who was constantly being told whatever he did was wrong by an obnoxious overbearing TE coach that was only hired bc he was a Garrett relative. It would get old but also not giving him a pass for his attitude as time went on. How about, learn from Witten but also some specific coaching regarding his skillset? We worked with Dez's immaturity/now Zeke's and it worked out great for us.

I remember the TE Garrett coach we later canned was an obnoxious/clueless "cliches galore" style coach with more bark than knowledge; he only relied on Witten bc he had no skills as a coach. Watch and learn from Witten is a good first start, what about the other elements of his game not available to Witten to develop and work on; heard none of that in Hard Knocks either? I don't blame Witten, I blame the coaching he didn't receive even being a knucklehead but with talent/measurements you can't teach. Woulda saved one our crap 2nd records as well.:D

Martellus Bennett‏Verified account @MartysaurusRex 4h4 hours ago

About 3 years ago I finally got some **** that @tonyromo would tell me. "Be urgent but don't rush" I told a young guy that one day.
And I was like ohhhhh that's what Romo meant. Hahahaha lol. To me urgent and rushing meant the same thing. Had no idea what he meant till That day.

I wonder if he actually knows that that statement was not actually Tony but instead, John Wooden?

"Be Quick but don't hurry...."

It seems everyone involved became more mature with age. Good for them.

How long is his contract with Chicago?

I hope it's a medium to long term deal or that bridge burned

I'd be willing to bet that Tony helped Dak out WAY less than they want everyone to believe. I think Sanchez and Moore were way more beneficial to Dak's success that Tony was.

And I wouldn't blame Tony at all if he didn't want to help out. Just imagine the position he was in.

I don't agree with this. I mean, Tony could have done a lot, in the way of sabotaging that situation by just stirring the pot. I never saw that last year. By simply not doing those things, Tony helped Dak out more then we can imagine IMO.

Sound wisdom/ good angle,,,I've thought that myself, you know Romo had to be in a kinda dark place(upstairs) going thru that, watching it.
