DeMarcus Ware
His performance didn't match his contract demands - at least IMO. Did he even have double digit sacks his last year here? Can't remember, but he was not THE D-Ware we knew and loved his last year here.

None of that matters. Jerry wanted to keep him. Jerry tried to keep him.

At the last minute after Ware was unwilling to take less money.
They could have restructured him and saved even more than cutting him and retained his services

Everyone thought (correctly) that he was done as a 4-3 DE with a 10m+ salary

Wrong.

Dallas never made an offer to DeMarcus Ware to take a pay cut because they didn't want to insult him with what could be perceived as a lowball offer.

Ware was willing to take less.

The Cowboys decided it was best to part ways and let Ware go find the best opportunity to reach a Super Bowl.

Resigning Martin might have cost us most of our remaining cap space, depending on how it is done. I think that the Boys want to have a fair amount handy for some FA's especially on Defense. OR to find a LG or RT if necessary.

Would have been better to get it done now. Kicking the can down the road will only raise the cost of the contract. They should have worked harder to get this done...NOW.
It could, most of the top young OG's are locked up. Schreff is the only one that may move the needle between now and Martin

As has been pointed out, both you and Risen are wrong.

They could have kept him at that reduced rate or by restructuring him. They decided to move on.
