Peppers is a 6'7" freak OLB/DE that will be a 1st ballot HOFer.

Maybe 2-3 guys in the entire NFL could have made that play. Kudos to Peppers.

Overall Martin played very well in the Packers game (and all season). I can't fault Martin for what was essentially Murray's sloppiness.

The guys that are left are all much quicker to the line than Murray. OL won't have to hold blocks as long. Martin reached his block he just handled the spacing poorly and lunged. Murray is a warrior but he had significant issues hanging onto the rock and it hurt us repeatedly.

Martin made poor block on play in Green Bay playoff game fumble by Murray.
I just noticed this recently, pepper, the guy who knocked the ball out on the play, was
Martins guy, the only guy Martin had to block was peppers, and if he did just a little better,
peppers would not have made it to Murray in time, and no fumble!

I will post some pics, but what I want to know from some of you who played lineman,
is a OL supposed to keep his head up ??
Is it bad form to lower the head so much your looking at the ground?
This is what Martin does on this play and it allows peppers ( a old guy lol) to slip arund and off the
block and leap at Murray.

If martin just delayed him 1 second longer it might have kept him from getting To murray, which he barely did.

Now I know some will blame Murray still, but the hit was from behind so it wasnt expected, he was looking at the open field then boom peppers hit his arm from behind.

I never saw anyone point this out about peppers being martins guy on that play.
It wasnt a good block.
Curious to see what fans here think about this, and the head down thing.

Didn't you say in another post that our ol played avg last year?

I feel like what I want to say has been said already. Lemme put it frankly.

Was it a cruddy block? Yes. But really, I wouldn't care if Martin got absolutely blown backwards on the play. It's not his fault that Butter-Gloves DeMo dropped the ball.

Randle scores untouched on that play, Murray is too slow at grabbing a gear

Martin clearly whiffed on the block.

But the Hate Murray club wants to assign him 120% of the blame, even though he was blind-sided by Peppers and made up for it with a huge run and a TD the next drive.

here is Peppers leaping from behind so I dnt think murray expected the hit at all , and had to be stunned at the space n from of him.
this was a important play and inches and seconds either way and it isnt a fumble.
Players have to step in playoffs , and peppers did in this one.
but why wuld Martin block like that with head down ??

Martin wasn't blocking with his head down, Peppers almost had him in a headlock

Somebody sounds a little touchy and defensive. Need a snickers?

Murray has been beloved in this forum, but that hasn't blinded most of us to Murray's fumbling tendencies. And there is no excuse for such a breakdown in grade school fundamentals. You don't hold the ball that way. Period.

Murray gets 100% of the blame. Period. Running backs must be prepared to be hit from any direction at any time.

He also has to let Leary clear to make his block. But Murray knows nothing about running the ball. It was all the OL.

If an o-lineman runs into the ball-carrier so hard he knocks the ball loose--then the o-lineman gets blame for a fumble. That's about the only scenario anyone who knows the game of football will blame a blocker for a fumble.

This thread was off the tracks the moment it left the station.

That block Martin had to mKe is an extremely difficult one, because of distance he had to cover and the fact that Peppers is such an athletic freak on top of being an intellegent player.

Bottom line it's the rbs job to hold on to the football. If this was a rare fumble for Murray, the take would have traction. However Murray put the ball on the ground way to much last year. And the way he's holding the ball during that run is why.

This is ridiculous. The RB should be expected to be tackled on every play. It is his job to hold on to the ball.

Linehan shouldn't have called that play.

I agree on he held the ball wrong, but is that not a coaching issue too??

Stop. Just stop. You can place blame wherever you want. Don't you think the coaches beat into him the importance of ball protection? Anyway, he's a professional RB, and a veteran at that. He shouldn't need to be coached on how to protect the ball. At that moment, it was HIS reponsibility to hang on to the football. Not Garrett's. Not Brown's. Not Linehan's. Not Martin's. It was Murray's, and Murray's alone.

Yeah because you are the expert on all things football.

It is lost on everyone that the only fumble Murray had during the 200+ touches he had since Week 8 was a fluke play on a perfectly timed dive.

Honestly, if we are going to play the blame game, I say we go to the source: Tony Romo should have never handed Demarco that ball.
