Martin to blame on GB fumble?

I agree on he held the ball wrong, but is that not a coaching issue too??

It is but it is also the players choice to take the coaching. I have not been a Demarco proponent but he also still had the broken hand in this game. But he was lucky to lose 5 all season there were 2-3 other games where he was tackled from behind on the sideline and lost the ball also but it went out of bounds. I do believe he will be better with ball security this year with the Eagles since the dollar signs will not be at every hash mark.

Massive hole on that play.
No way Peppers should have gotten that strip.
Nice play by him but it surprised Murray--who had visions of sugar plums.

Or at least a safety to try and tee off on.

That block Martin had to mKe is an extremely difficult one, because of distance he had to cover and the fact that Peppers is such an athletic freak on top of being an intellegent player.

Bottom line it's the rbs job to hold on to the football. If this was a rare fumble for Murray, the take would have traction. However Murray put the ball on the ground way to much last year. And the way he's holding the ball during that run is why.

This. Pepper's athletic ability made that a very difficult block for Martin.

There's a dent in the sheet rock next to my TV that was created by my fist in response to this one play.

As a RB you are supposed to be taught both hands on ball within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage or anytime you are in traffic. Now that I think about you do not see a lot of RB coming through the line with both hands on the ball any more.

Do we blame our linemen when Romo is hurried and throws an interception? No. -smh

The block was terrible. Still have to protect the football.

Very telling how slow Murray is hitting the large hole that was in front of him...

DanyDon52...the "head down" is beyond simple to explain.

Of course that's not the kind of form you want to make, but in the open field sometimes it's all one can do to make *any* contact. Martin knew his only chance was to lunge (thus the down-ward head).

Remarkably, Martin succeeded in impeding Peppers well enough for Murray to score a touchdown.

Sadly Murray with all that open field...forgot something most fundamental.

Blaming blockers when they did well enough for a guy to score a long-distance running touchdown...has to rank up there in football chat head-scratchers.

And here I thought the other team wasn't allowed to make plays since they were playing for free....

Thank you. If you look at the play, Pepper jumps to the outside, which is really where he should be. Murray has a lead blocker who should basically clear out traffic. Peppers is just too quick and gets to Murray. Murray should learn how to carry the ball like Tiki Barber did when he had fumbling issues
If he had, he wouldn't have fumbled and would have walked to the end zone.

Exactly, A running back with speed takes that run to the house 9/10 times. The fumble is 100% on Murray who is getting a pass for this bs.

Murray is actually showing good patience on that run, as he is waiting for Leary's pull block to develop so that the strong safety gets taken out. His only real flaw here was his major one, and that's the ball being carried too far away from his body which of course led to the fumble.

Martin made poor block on play in Green Bay playoff game fumble by Murray.
I just noticed this recently, pepper, the guy who knocked the ball out on the play, was
Martins guy, the only guy Martin had to block was peppers, and if he did just a little better,
peppers would not have made it to Murray in time, and no fumble!

I will post some pics, but what I want to know from some of you who played lineman,
is a OL supposed to keep his head up ??
Is it bad form to lower the head so much your looking at the ground?
This is what Martin does on this play and it allows peppers ( a old guy lol) to slip arund and off the
block and leap at Murray.

If martin just delayed him 1 second longer it might have kept him from getting To murray, which he barely did.

Now I know some will blame Murray still, but the hit was from behind so it wasnt expected, he was looking at the open field then boom peppers hit his arm from behind.

I never saw anyone point this out about peppers being martins guy on that play.
It wasnt a good block.
Curious to see what fans here think about this, and the head down thing.

Completely bizarre trying to blame that one someone other than Murray. I don't care if the defender was in front, behind, to the left, to the right or descended from the heavens above Murray........... the job of a TB is to hold the ball in a way to prevent guys from poking it out from behind.

To try to blame that on Martin is hilarious.

The block wasn't that bad. The goal is to get Peppers out of the way. Martin did that. Peppers couldn't make that tackle. The only way that play doesn't end up in a big gain is a fumble. How the *** you can blame an OL for creating a hole where the defender has no chance of making a tackle is bizarre.

That play is 100% Murray's fault.

Ask yourself this question.

Can Peppers make that tackle and stop Murray? He couldn't. Therefore, while the block wasn't ideal, Martin was able to make Peppers jump out of the hole and the only thing Peppers could do was dive and poke the ball out. If the ball is in Murray's other hand for example, Peppers lunges, doesn't make the tackle and Murray is running for another 20+ yards.

Yeah, could you imagine the uproar around here if Martin had held him and Murray went all the way only for it to come all the way back.

Dead on! One could argue that Murray was jogging into a huge hole and that gave time for Peppers to even get into the play. Martin actually made a GREAT BLOCK on the play. He completely kicked Peppers and turned him to make a HUGE HOLE, LOL!
