lol, wut?

There were threads here earlier in the season that called for us to bench Romo/cut Romo/trade Romo.

So since those threads "exist" does that mean its a good idea?

Wade wouldnt do that, and you know he wouldnt. He had a chance to rub the Eagles noses in it the last game of the season. He diddnt, he had class.

See there you go again being judgemental. If a team scores when they can, they are classless. If a team sits on the ball, they show class.

If a coach wants to kill the clock, cool. If he wants his players to try and score, cool. I have no issue either way. If I were coach, I would try to score.

I dont care if it was the statue of liberty, a flea flicker, a double reverse, or the annexation of puerto rico. the fact is, if dallas didnt want to be scored on, they should have stopped minnesota from scoring.

if it were the other way around, you wouldnt be so angry. you would be so happy that the Boys rubbed Favre and the Vikings noses in it.

Wrong. I'm not like you. You dont know me so you cant say i am as classless as you would be in victory. I believe in sportsmanship and respect. I dont believe that because you can do something then its morally ok to do it.
I dont take things from people because they lack the ability to stop me. I believe there is a place in professional sports for mercy. I dont see the need or value in embarrassing anyone. You do.
We shall agree to disagree on this.

We got our butts handed to us. We all agree. But the vikings showed they lack sportsmanship with that play.

Do you watch basketball? How about baseball? So if they are up 20 pts or so/many runs they are suppose to stop playing the game? Why does it have to apply to football??

No but this thread is in response to our players reaction. To the reaction of the Fox post game debate. In response to an article written about it.

So if it wasnt an issue then why is everyone talking about it?

There is a difference between some fans over reacting and starting a thread and players, reporters and commentators talking about something and whether it was right or wrong to do.

I'm sorry you cant see that.

Carry on

Exactly! Since our team is involved, of course, its going to generate responses. Duh.

If this happened to the Jets or Chargers in the game right now... I wonder what the response would be.

Jimmy Johnson did do it.

As a matter of fact, many people had a problem with Jimmy Johnson at Miami because he did do it.

I remember the game where he completely destroyed Notre Dame and that was the last game for Notre Dame's Head Coach.

Folks, "Margin of Victory" was just recently removed the BCS equation.

Running up the score is more common then some folks want to admit.

Two points:

  • This is much more common in college football than at other levels, including the pros.
  • Why were people getting mad at him? Because it was viewed as unsportsmanlike.

Teams dont stop playing however in all those sports the way they play changes based on the score and game situation. I guess you have never played organized sports where you coach taught you to show some mercy for the losing team. Have you ever seen a basketball game where a team is up by 20 with 2 minutes left and they keep all the starters in the game and play a half court press defense?

It doesnt happen for a reason. Its poor sportsmanship. There is a point in sports when its time to let up. It shows class.

If it happens in the same situation then it would generate the same response.
And it would be poor sportsmanship either way.

Like i said if it wasnt then why were Jimmy Johnson and Terry Bradshaw debating it?

Even criminals rationalize away their actions.

Running up the score has been classified as "unsportsmanlike" for as long as I can remember and have been watching professional sports.

No, "OMG if they wanted to stop them they should have played on the field" blah blah will justify it...

It's all about intimidation and enforcing your will on your opponent.

This isn't Pee Wee Football in Texas.

This is Professional Football where guys get paid millions of dollars and equally millions of dollars are on the line every Season.

This is a subject where everyone has their minds made up as to whether it was right or wrong, so I am not going to go back and forth on it.

From my point of view, the Vikings sent a clear message to the folks in New Orleans that they are coming for the NFC Crown and that their "demise was greatly exaggerated".

Not to play Nostradamus, but I am pretty sure if the shoe was on the other side, most Cowboys fans wouldn't have had a problem with it.

Now the Vikings can go into the NFC Championship Game with the Mantra of "We completely destroyed the hottest team in the NFC and maybe the NFL, so we can beat anybody"

Again, 60 Minutes of Hell!

When exactly did sportsmanship become peewee football?

To me it's not really that they scored again it makes me mad at what play they called and when they called it. I feel that with less then 2mins left in the 4th quarter and up by a lot there is NO reason to try and score again.

The two positions on this debate summed up:

1) You should show class and respect for the game and the athletes on the field

2) I'm a man! Real men never let up! Are you questioning my manhood? Look how big my balls are, ******! I'm not gay! I'm a man!

Yes I have. You play sports to win, not have mercy.

Lets just change the rules and the first team scoring a TD wins the game, that way the difference wont be too big to be "embarrassed".
Its not lack of sportsmanship, its just being a bad loser. If you are mad about it, keep it for yourself and try to embarrass them even more the next time you play against them.
And yes, i have played organized sports my whole life and i was never taught to show mercy, i was taught that showing mercy was disrespecting the other team.

this game was over when we had the ball the series before, we should have just knelt on the ball instead of making them play defense. bad sportsmanship on our part.
