Matt Johnson Injured At Camp

For the love all the old gods, new gods, children of the forest, and the first men of the north I BEG you fine people to make this the last thread made about this curse of a player.

There will be one more when he's released.

Making it to the league is a pretty good accomplishment.

I would agree if he wasn't always absurdly heralded by the team every time they talked about him.

You would think this was Darren Woodson's clone or something suiting up, but with a bad leg that he couldn't get healthy.

I'm happy for him. He gets to pretend he had the talent but just couldn't stay healthy.

Whoever pushed for that pick should have been fired for it.

This really stinks for Johnson. And it's not good for the Cowboys. Frustration from fans is one thing, but the ill-will towards a camp hopeful isn't necessary.

Pointing that out isn't even defending the team. It's just pointing out the obvious. @adbutcher, I think you're looking at it exactly the right way. No mater what ends up happening for Johnson in camp.
For me it is a matter of dignity. It costs me nothing to be considerate of a player trying his best even though it is doubtful he even makes the team. Unfortunately, the anonymity of the internet has dehumanized us. Big talk is a common thing and not giving two ***** about another human being is a sign of strength.

I am sure the internet toughs moms are proud...

I dont think its wrong for those who want Matt Johnson gone, to just be cut, but I just think those same people really have no real understanding of the how this game is played at this level. There is some value in patience, and certain rosters can afford that luxury.
Bingo, at this stage of camp it costs us peanuts keeping Matt around. No need to cut him now. It will work itself out when the time to cut comes.

I don't want to read too much into what I've read here but reading between the lines I'm pretty sure some think they will have to amputate.
With a rusty bone saw. I wonder if Striker still make their rusty line of surgical equipment?

A pulled hamstring is bad. Only things worse is torn or detached. You figure he is going to miss at least 2-3 weeks.

Can't make the club in the tub. I'm sure everybody involved is aware of the implications of more injury time for Matt.

The team is justified for keeping him available thus far if they like his potential, but if he can't stay on the field, he can't stay on the roster. I think we all get that, right?

Absolutely. Now I'm not in the "cut him immediately" camp, but by final cut downs he has to show something to justify being on the 53 man roster.

I've rooted for Matt, mostly b/c I saw him play in person and know folks at his school who really raved about him.

But today I am reminded of a story from BP's time. There was a 2nd year player at S who had missed his first season on IR. He'd gotten our attention a bit in camp and preseason. He got hurt again the next TC. Bill said he took him aside, told him of his release (injured), and said something like "son, teams will call you. Don't answer."

I think Garrett needs to have that conversation with Matt. Take another year of salary on IR and find new work.
