ESPN reports Matt Jones is going to Tennessee for a workout tomorrow and says Cowboys and Bears still showing interest as well. He'll sign somewhere and be a instant contributor, he was 30th last year among receivers and missed several games. While Tenn. would be a great fit I would rather see Dallas get him and benefit. I really think the Matt has something to prove and will greatly enhance whatever receiving corp he ends up on.

He's still young and I'll rather have him than say Stanback (even Ogletree..... Lord save me from the wrath :(). But this is a move we should have made earlier on.

**** that. I don't want this coke machine on the Dallas Cowboys. He's not even that good to make a difference. There's no room on the roster for this garbage either.

We should have already picked this guy up, he would be #1 reciever, at least a compliment to Williams. What a nice target he would be for tony.

MJ is on the Cowboys radar. Hell of a basketball player but isn't he a bit old to try the NFL? :laugh2:

Jones' agent: 'This is moving quickly'Comment Email Print Share By Adam Schefter

After five weeks of discussions, the Tennessee Titans are bringing free-agent wide receiver Matt Jones in for a visit Thursday.

ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky writes about all things AFC South in his division blog.

Tennessee has been searching for a veteran receiver since before the NFL draft. It has explored any number of options, but the one it is zeroing in on now seems to be Jones.

Jones' agent, Alan Herman, also has been in contact with the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears regarding Jones, but the Titans are the team that is acting fastest.

"This is moving quickly," Herman said Wednesday. "We're ready to go and get a deal done, and we're optimistic we will. Matt is in outstanding shape, he's ready to go, and we think Tennessee would be a great fit."

Wasn't Michael Irvin a 'coke machine' and quite a few other Cowboy greats back in the day?
Matt's better than atleast half the Dallas current receivers and after spending $20,000 to stay in shape to be ready I seriously doubt he's a 'coke machine' as you claim.
God forbid anyone find out about most anyone's past mistakes, we would all be out of work. I see a guy who is genuinely doing everything he can for one more shot and when given the chance will show people like you were wrong.

I'm in favor of it and have been...

I wonder if we (and maybe Chicago) were hoping no one would get him before the season so we could sign him after the first week when salaries aren't guaranteed.

But like Newnation said, if we were going to do this, we should've done it early.

Jones agent contacted the Cowboys, not the other way around. There was no interest.

whew thanks hostile

I admit i dont mind having him due to his size at 6-6 and speed 4.38 and a former qb that could run the wildcat formation, but i dont want the drama, and the headache, we just got through cleaning out our roster of troubled players, the using alcohol and drugs that matt has used in the past;

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Titans will try out free agent Matt Jones on Thursday.

Mort says the Bears and Cowboys are also "monitoring" Jones' situation. The 26-year-old receiver likely wouldn't compete for starter's snaps right away in Tennessee, but he'd be a fine third option behind Kenny Britt and Justin Gage with Nate Washington (hamstring) out indefinitely. Jones has been staying in shape, but doesn't know coordinator Mike Heimerdinger's system.

I would be for cutting stanback and trading Austin and then picking up Matt jones. Ogletree has too much upswing to me. With all he has shown in such a short time I think by the end of this year he will surpass Austin and maybe Hurd. Jones would provide the speed threat with mire experience than Austin. Just my thoughts on it.

That is not a good comparison. Irvin was a proven player and winner before he ever got in trouble for his coke issues. Irvin is a Hall of Famer and was the heart of the team. If Matt Jones was close to being in that category he would not be available in the first place.

Stanback I would agree but not Austin......Ogletree is gonna be great in Dallas. Jones slow off the line but once he gets a few strides his top speed is blazing and he's 6'6" with good hands.
