What part of WE DON'T WANT ANY COKE HEADS AND PROBLEM TYPES do you guys do not understand?

What has Matt Jones done that makes him worth bringing in NOW?

AND as I said if he is so good how come other teams that need WRs have not even had him in TO LOOK AT HIM?

I hear no answers.

This 'argument' assumes that NFL teams never make mistakes.

How many teams didn't draft Tom Brady?

Think they'd do that one over if they had the chance?

Our own QB wasn't drafted by all 32 teams - another mistake.

Point is that all teams make mistakes.

The Jaguars made on when they overdrafted Jones in the first place.

I don't know why his agent is 'creating' interest at this point.

Looks like he'll work out and sign with the Titans on Thursday.

And then we'll see how well he does - or doesn't - do for them.

Until someone actually signs him, it's an agents job to create the appearance that he's in demand.

TEN is a perfect fit for him. I'm surprised they didn't bring him in a lot sooner.

He's not a significant upgrade to any of our top for WR positions, and he's at risk of suspension. Had we lost a player in preseason, I'd have been all over him.

No.

He didn't have Terrell Owens and Jason Witten drawing coverage away from him for an entire season.

And no, he wasnt the 3rd or 4th option as he would have been here

In other words, he'd be no more productive than the guys we had out there

Throw Patrick Crayton the ball 100-something times a yr, he's gonna get 60-70-80 catches too. And unlike Jones, Crayton does have some run afetr catch skills. Hell throw Ogletree out there and force feed him passes and I bet he catches 50 or 60 if he gets enough chances.

How is he 'at risk of suspension'?

I think Tenessee is a good fit.

But I'm still surprised that nobody brought him in earlier - to learn a new system and develop a rapport with the quarterback.

That's why I'm not advocating the Cowboys signing him - that time has passed.

Although let one of the team's receivers get hurt and Jones' stock will again skyrocket - or it would have anyway.

My bet is that he's signed with the Titans tomorrow.

Sure all 32 teams passed on a guy who is not a rookie but has been in the NFL for several years. Yeah they are all stupid.

Your arguement leaks like a sieve. WIth all the film and data they have on this guy from all the NFL games he has played they are all stupid for not even bringing him in.

If's and but's...........

Jones did what he did last season - he caught 65 passes in 12 games - that's what truly happened. And he did it playing in a lousy offense for a franchise that does a lousy job developing any kind of receivers for the past several years.

Amazing how some people will attempt to knock him for that while trying to erase Roy Williams' lousy 2008 season.

And again, you don't have to worry about it.

Jones will be a Titan tomorrow.

Isn't he subject to random testing after having completed NFL-sponsored drug counseling? I thought the first infraction is kept confidential (if it doesn't include an actual arrest), but that subsequent infractions had a mandatory 4 game suspension.

Oh, that's right, nobody ever had film on Tom Brady, that's why they didn't draft him.

What was I thinking?

I'm not sure about the specifics of the NFL's testing policy, but I'm sure Jones is in whatever program they have. But since it's confidential, we have no idea what other players are either.

Regardless, Jones is on his last strike if he does get signed - he knows it as much as all of us do.

He sneezes wrong and he's done.

I think his point is this guy has several years of NFL experience and everyone has seen it. Nobody watched Tom Brady play for a few yrs in the NFL, then had him become available and avoided signing him.

For me, I figured nobody had signed him initially because everyone assumed he was going to be suspended (as he should have been, but the commish is a pinhead) but that clearly isnt the case now, as they (league office) announced a long time ago he would NOT be suspended. There's alot of teams around the league that need WR help, and yet this guy got basically no interest the whole time. Its curious to say the least, wouldnt you agree?

And I think it's a lousy point.

They had several years worth of film on Brady at Michigan and that didn't stop them from making a mistake on him.

Pro film or not, they had plenty of information on the player and they all blew it so they're not beyond question - that's my point.

We'll see what Jones does if the Titans sign him.

If he stinks it up you all can tell me about it.

I'll still be here to take 'my fair share of abuse'.

And I do agree with you that it's more than a bit curious that nobody has signed him yet.

Maybe they know something that I don't?

On second thought, Naaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

It's actually a pretty good point. The Brady who didn't get drafted early wasn't the same player who eventually ended up starting that last game of the season.

And tape of a WR with several years of NFL coaching and going against actual NFL cover corners is much more valuable than college tape. Obviously.

I don't know why Matt Jones wasn't picked up earlier in the offseason by somebody. There are several teams he's good enough to get meaningful snaps with. My guess is that he and his agent rolled the dice that a starter would go down and that he'd get a call from a team with a good situation for him, and when that didn't happen during the preseason games the starters actually play in, he took the best opportunity on the table.

I don't know if I would call what Jacksonville does with its' receivers "NFL coaching".

Then he should fire his agent.

The guy is on strike #3 and needs to take the first offer made to him because it might be the only one het gets.

If he was 'waiting' on anything, he and his agent are fools.

I think that - for whatever reason - teams just didn't call.

And it makes little sense that they would now after all the training camp and offseason work where he could learn an offense, is gone.

If the guy's on his last chance, it makes sense that he'd wait for an opportunity that would be more likely to get him on the field regularly, and perhaps with a high-powered offense or a really good QB. It's a risk to hold out for an injury to a starter, but I don't know that it was a mistake.

The timing of him signing, if he actually does this week, implies that the decision was the players. I can't think of any reason why a team would not want him in camp earlier if they were going to have him on the opening day roster. Or why they wouldn't wait another week if they wanted to sign him to a more flexible contract.
