Ohhh no. This team finally ran out of excuses in this offseason. Our coaches and players have finally been cornered with no where else to run. So no more troubled "team cancers" to give them an excuse for not performing. Sorry Matt Jones.

This guy is not as good as Miles Austin or Patrick Crayton and it's debatable that he's better than Sam Hurd at this point so how could he help us?

65 receptions last year with a bum tossing him the ball and he can't helpl us?

Wow, really? Trash him for using drugs and underachieving all you like, but calling him possibly worse than Sam Hurd?

Wait. Didn't Matt Jones get arrested?

Didn't the commish say that he would punish those whose actions tarnish the reputation of the league?

Doesn't getting arrested for treating your nose in public tarnish the league's reputation?

Shouldn't that warrant a suspension or does 2 and 2 not equal 4 in this case for whatever reason?

ESPN is not making daily reports on the problem children in the NFL anymore. Goodell never gave a damn about anything other than cleaning up the IMAGE of the league. Perception is not reality.

IF Matt Jones' head is right, he could easily be the 4th best WR on this team, if not one of the top 3, IMO.

Of course, that's a very big "IF".

Say what you want pal, but I bet Matt Jones is a Cowboy when its all said and done. You really havent done your homework on Jones, your just going on the ESPN perception you rely on....Matt Jones had a terrible passing game around him the entire time in Jacksonville. I dont believe the lazy crap about him either. I watched him play at Arkansas and Jacksonville and he's made alot of plays considering how terrible the Jag's Qb's are.

My my....don't we make a lot of presumptions?

First of all, I haven't "done my homework" because I already know everything about him that I need to....and it isn't good. Secondly, I haven't let ESPN dictate my thoughts since the 90's, and I don't "rely" on any news source for my opinions. Third, the Jaguars finished 15th in passing last year...hardly "terrible". Fourth, I don't give a damn what you believe...when his teammates and coaches tell people that he's hard to motivate, that's a better indicator then whatever fantasy fulfills your little wet dream of him donning a Star.

...and if you want to bet, put your money where you mouth is.

Ok pal?;)

it seems to me that any message sent to the players by the housecleaning would be forgotten the minute they got wind of the signing of Matt Jones, rendering the whole housecleaning operation, for the most part, pointless.

It all depends on why we cut Pacman. If we cut Pacman due to him being on a no tolerance policy and him screwing up then that is one thing. In that scenario I could see us bringing Jones in under the same stipulations.

OTOH, if he was released because he was included with the lockerroom lawyers then Jones has no shot. Say what you will about Pacman he was not actively divisive in the locker room like Tank, TO and Ellis are. Hes just a first rate alcoholic knucklehead that cannot stay out of trouble in the outside world.

Quite frankly I would much rather have Jones than Isiah 'Glass' Stanback. Its time to jettison Ireland's busted project.

I agree. I think it would be a difficult sell to the Cowboys' locker room, IMO.

After everything JJ's done this off-season, it just seems counter-intuitive that he brings in M Jones.

Your Funny...Jones caught 65 balls last year and that's including missing 3 games last year with a suspension. 15th in passing because that loser of a Qb was checking down to that little fire-plug Jone-Drew every play if Jones wasnt open!! I will put my money where my mouth is..... Son, OK PAL!! LOL.

How in god's name is he not going to be suspended? Didn't one of our coached get 5 games for taking a banned substance that was helping him cope with diabetes? Did I miss something?

Matt Jones was suspended for getting arrested for possessing cocaine because it violated NFL rules.

He was not suspended for being jailed for violating drug court rules because what he did did not violate NFL rules.

Simple as that.

I really can't understand why so many expected him to be suspended over this when testing positive for alcohol (not public drunkenness or anything of that nature) isn't against NFL policy. He had an agreement with drug court that he broke, and he paid for that with jail time.

what is all this talk about selling a decision to the locker room? Jerry Jones doesn't have to and wont sell anything to anyone, if Jerry Jones wants him he is going to get him. Period. The question is does Jerry want him?

I know their line was completely hurt and the running game went south...and they have bascially no WRs.... Garrard is NOT a bum. He can make all the throws, has a gun, and can be very accurate---see 2007 as an example of when the line was healthy. He was only behind Brady in QB ratings. He has just never had any WRs. Last season (while running for his life on every play) he and Jones were finally starting to click.

Oh yeah, and he has led his team to a playoff win--even without any real WRs.

Let's see how he does this season now that he has some line and WR help.

As for Jones...he was finally starting to learn the position last season. I think he'll do well somewhere.

What does Jones' former teammates say about him?

Having two beers, while obviously wrong, is not the end of the world to me. And I still have a problem holding people responsible for being arrested and pronouced guilty before they get to court.

Having said all that I think it would be a mistake to take this guy on. It just sends the wrong message. IMO.

I think the housecleaning done by Dallas gets misinterpreted.

Jerry Jones did not get rid of players who simply had trouble with the law (see the signing of Gerald Sensabaugh), he got rid of players whose attitudes were troubling to the team.

The idea was to change the atmosphere by letting those who were not good team players go.

Actually no its not that simple any arrest can be considered conduct detrimental to the league and as such Goodell can suspend anyone he damn well pleases.

Its written in each and every players contract. Its in the appendix of the CBA if you want to look it up. The verbage allows Goodell complete autonomy to suspend anyone for whatever reason because of the vagueness of 'conduct detrimental to the league.'

The issue here is one of consistency. Goodell has none and just makes crap up and contradicts himself as he goes along.
