Big picture I prefer him. But this non sense about him at 34 is maddening. People forgetting Locker and Ponder in round one a few years ago, both absolute stiffs that everybody knew couldnt play, and people really think Lynch lasts to34? Really?

His demise has been great exaggerated IMO. The only two things that have dropped him from his perch as #1 QB was a bad game and Wentz blowing up the Senior Bowl. I dont think ita enough to drop him out of the top 10 let alone first round

He's looked good his whole career in college if people saw past their myopia about draft prospects.

He's gotten better every year. Is he perfect? Nope. But neither are Wentz and Goff - thus, I would NOT spend the 4th overall pick on either of them, especially to sit behind Romo.

Locker was actually a pre-season Heisman hopeful coming into his senior year... SI did a story on him, calling him next year's #1 pick in the draft... then he had a subpar senior season
and still went 8th overall.... point is he wasn't a stiff in college.

Ponder also had some Heisman promotion during his senior year but battled an elbow injury the entire season... he won the MVP award at the Senior Bowl... he was a 3 year starter at Florida State...
bottom line though is that he was probably a 2nd round pick at best that ended up being selected 10th overall... and parlayed that into finding a hot wife... lol

Both had accuracy problems. Locker in particular couldnt hit water from a boat. Locker was 54% passer in college, a stat that never goes up in the NFL. Ponder like Manuel who followed him throws tended to sail. NEVER draft an inaccurate QB.

This continual Prescott noise is beginning to concern me.

It reeks of a Quincy Carter type situation to me. Not because the QBs are similar, but the situation is.

Major need for franchise QB, comparisons to a hugely successful QB coming off a great year, Jerry playing copycat and also thinking he can outsmart the draft and get a good deal....

What worries me is not Prescott himself, but that Jerry will get attached to the idea of him and reach a round or two early because that's who he really wants

True... Locker's best year was as a junior (58.4%)... not good... but still he was once considered to be the next big thing, briefly... Ponder had a career completion percentage of 61.8 (junior year was 68.8)
but I don't remember seeing many bombs thrown from Florida State during that time.... generally, I agree with your original point... needy teams tend to panic when QBs start coming off the board.

Not ours, Ozzie. He'll just find one when it's appropriate. Just in the nick of time. What could possibly go wrong?

Wasn't Joe Flacco drafted with the 18th pick, right around where a typically 8-8 team like the Cowboys would select? And didn't Flacco start every game right in the "nick of time" as a rookie, without having to sit on the bench for 3 years to ferment or whatever it is quarterbacks do in their required apprenticeship (that no teams ever bother with, despite their dim-witted fan base's eternal obsession with Aaron Rodgers)?

He's clearly bluffing or BSing. I don't know if QB is an option at 4 or not - but I know it does Jerry no good to tip his hand either way.

I still find it hilarious that Goff has fallen! How exactly? Over his 9" hands? It can't be his combine as he looked as good as Wentz. Maybe not in his drops, but everything else.

I want Wentz, because I like his size and occasional run ability, but will take Goff in a NY minute if he's not there.

+1

By going QB now, we shorten the evaluation window and the advantage of a cheap starting QB. Looking at the last SB winning QBs - they're either HOF caliber or were on their rookie contracts.

Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Jay Cutler - you can win a SB with those guys on a rookie contract - assuming you make good use of that extra money. But where are teams those today? You can win a SB with Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Newton, Roethlisberger (etc) making 20+ million a year. I don't think you can with the "good" QBs I named. Are we really willing to gamble that Goff or Wentz are future HOFers - and willing to make that call with only a season or two to decide if they're worth franchise QB money?

Listen I know our Owner/GM/Head Coach/Trainer/PR Man/Doctor is a first ballot hall of fame idiot with his own designated wing when it comes to football but when he doesn't do the right thing and draft Carson of Bismarck at 1, I would love to hear his nonsensical response as to why he was ready to draft a QB two years ago when that fraud Manziel was there but not ready now with he who was foretold to us.

Not to understand the logic but to laugh at the attempt at it.

Not to worry. You'll get your QB and his name is Dak Prescott. Our owner is in full reactionary mode like he was post Aikman. McNabb was all the rave back then and we just needed us one of those guys, so we drafted Quincy. Fast forward to today...our owner thinks Prescott is a Russell Wilson clone (minus the hand size, of course) so he's going to get this lad. If we're lucky, he may draft Prescott in the second for fear that some other team may outsmart us and move up to get him so we overdraft him by several rounds. That old wildcatter.....

So if Carter was the next McNabb, Prescott is what, the next Russell Wilson or Cam Newton?

Eh, does he have any other mode? For 20 years this franchise has been "we want to be just like (fill in the blank) who just won the Super Bowl". The skeletal remains of Peyton Manning wining the Super Bowl was the worst thing that Jerry could have witnessed. Cam winning would have been a lot better for the future of this team IMO.
