He's grown up a lot over the last few years.
He deserves some credit.
I think fatherhood has made him more selfless. And he always has loved the players and fans.

Let me clarify, my dislike of Cuban stems from a lot more than just his public perception.

Ahhh - dumped the Celtics and went to the Mavs. Mavs dissappointed so yu jumped from the Mavs back to the Celitcs. Where do you go now that the Celtics disappointed you?

Yeah, that was embarrassing. He basically told everyone in the real world that their life sucked and now we all have to go back to our boring lives.

This doesn't bother me as much as some. The media asked the question - just one of many stupid questions - and I'm sure LeBron is tired of people ramming it down his throat how disliked he has become. I think he was merely trying to say that it's time for people to go back to their lives and quite carrying around the animosity. He could have worded it better, no doubt, but it's live TV following an emotional disappointment.

Don't you know, he became a Heat fan when LeBron signed. Why do you think he is so tore up about this loss. The fact that it was the Mavs that did it, was like pouring salt on the wound! :laugh2:

I see that since basketball is now over, he has now resorted to Roy bashing. Stay classy Uno.

Just a few Dirk stats...

excerpts from linked article

"Here's a statistic about Nowitzki, and shame on me for not writing this earlier. This should have been the headline. This is the story of the 2011 NBA Finals. Here you go:

In this six-game series, Dirk Nowitzki had the single highest-scoring fourth quarter. He also was No. 2. And No. 3. And No. 4. And No. 5.

Do you understand that? Nowitzki had the five best fourth quarters in this series. For the postseason he led all players, in both conferences, with a 10-point scoring average in the fourth quarter, and he hit that average in Game 6.

So if you're wondering why Nowitzki gets a free pass after going 9-for-27 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, that's why. Because NBA games are decided in the fourth quarter, and that's when Nowitzki was the best player -- far and away -- in a series featuring some spectacular individual talent."

Just an amazing series performance...even with the cold start, he hit 5 of his last 6.
And the same can be said for the Western Finals too.

I can believe this. Guys that pick favorite teams based on who looks to be the best bet to win are going to find themselves upset a lot. For those guys it's all or nothing every year.

Mike Wilbon says Dirk isn't even in the top 20 all-time players (he said this last night after the Mavs won) though he fails to name those 20 that are better.

I agree he isn't top 10, but not top 20? Hmm, I'm not sure anyone can credibly claim that it isn't even debatable. Especially the Dirk of today who can put it on the floor and drive to the basket against even the best defenders. (something he couldn't do until recently)

Early in his career he was only a shooter. Today he is so much more. He is still the shooter, he can put it on the floor, he is a great rebounder, his defense is 10x what it was early in his career, even on bad days he scores 20+ points, he can put a team on his back, he is a 4th quarter machine, and he is probably the unstoppable offensive players in the NBA right now.

To say he isn't even *arguably* in the top 20 all-time is just discrediting your own credibility.

I would be interested to see if anyone had done that before. That's amazing.

The below is a list of guys I think are definitley above Dirk on the All-Time list, but outside of these guys I think Dirk stacks up pretty nicely. Duncan, Baylor, West and a few others are pretty tough to beat as well, but Dirk belongs in the argument. Of course Dirk still has some time left to build his career stats and perhaps win another championship, so he could climb further.

Jabbar
Chaimberlain
Russell
Olajuwan
Shaq
Kobe
Bird
Magic
Robertson
Jordan
Moses Malone
Karl Malone
Dr. J

As far as where Dirk ranks overall, he's pretty far up there. I'd definitely put him in the top 20 all time. Of course, I'm pretty biased, but the fact he's in the discussion now on a national level tells me that I'm not THAT biased.

I think as far as power forwards go, Duncan is number 1 there all time. After that though? It can be argued that Dirk is at number 2.

On another note, where does this place Dirk in the Dallas area as far as greatest athletes? In a game like basketball where one guy can have such a huge effect, I think he's gotta be top 5 all time in DFW athletes. Hell, I'd argue he's top 3. He's in that argument with the Aikmans, Staubachs, Emmitts, etc. That's pretty amazing.

Elgin Baylor definitely. As for Duncan, I always ranked him higher than Dirk and really didn't consider it debatable, but with Dirk developing his post game to the level it is now. Now I think the Dirk vs Duncan is definitely debatable.

I think he is better than Karl Malone.

I was listening to ESPN radio for awhile this morning a one guy (J Rose?) said they had made a pre-season list of top all-time power forwards. They were surprised to see that Dirk was 10th--which of course is beyond stupid.
They revised it somewhat, but still had him "clearly" below Duncan, Malone, and Barkley, and in the saem group as a few other (including Garnett). So even with the ring, they did not move him up all that much. They did say if he get's one or two more they may move him up ahead of Barkley.
lol
Oh well. I would put him behind Duncan and maybe Malone, but ahead of Barkley, McCale, Garnett, Petite, etc.

Yeah that was Chris Broussard on Mike & Mike. Personally, I think I'd put Dirk ahead of Barkley at No. 3 for PFs. Duncan and K. Malone go ahead of him. If Dirk gets another ring, he'll move ahead of Malone IMO. I don't think he can surpass Duncan.

Of course Dirk doesn't have anybody even in the running with him in baseketball, so he is naturally going to stand out in his sport. Of course that will endear him to fans.

i think that outside of 10-12 people Dirk is in the debate with anyone else. It certainly would be reasonable for anyone to put him in the top 20.
