Maybe Pacman has seen the light...

my whole thing, dooms, is not that i dont think that Jones should be punished. He was somehow involved with guys that killed two people.

My issue is that you look at what happened with Jamaal Lewis, Ray Lewis and Leonard Little and how the NFL handled that and now after ESPN has been giving so much airtime to Jones and also the Bengals and now the league decides to do something after the fact and then pick and choose who its going to effect?

Porter was arrested and Johnson was convicted both over 30 days ago. The whole thing just stinks of poor leadership. You want a leader to have initiative and to be fair. Goodell is neither.

Tank Johnson is in Jail and the league has said they want to talk to him before they do anything I think that is the right thing to do. Porter situation evidently they are still reviewing what took place again I think that is the right thing to do. If you think this is poor leadership then we just disagree

You know I don't mind him going back to WVU to finish his degree. I think that is a good thing.

It may also be a good thing for him to be close to Barwis or receive some kind of counseling (personal and not professional) from someone like Barwis who is like a father figure for him.

I also realize that the weakness of WVU was it's lack of playmakers in the defensive back field in the 3-5-3.

However with all of that said. I would NOT want him hanging around the team at all.

I don't want even the chance that he starts getting some of those young players to start acting like he does and by his own admissions needing his team (the titans) to have more thugs.

Nope...he can just stay the heck away from those young people.

He wants to redeem himself and his image, go back to WVU, finish his education and do some community service.

Just don't screw up some of the young players.
IIRC from the big 500 page thread that he will have to do community service and receive counseling as part of the conditions of his suspension.

Common sense guys. DO you THINK that the NFL would risk being made to look stupid if there was any real chance that a court would find cause to over turn this? They have the best lawyers money can buy; experts in this field- and if Goodell went out on a limb and did this, they would make very sure there was no likelihood that any court would get their hands on a chainsaw.

I don't know this guy at all but logically I think I can work out what he might be thinking/doing:

1. Jones has become the poster boy for "bad actor" in the NFL. Whether this is justified or not makes no difference. His name is a household word and a large number of people who don't watch football recognize his name. He is now a media target in every sense of the word.

2. His income has been damaged and his career is threatened regardless of what happens from here. Damage control is mandatory at this point....for Jones, his agent, and the Titans if they want to retain his services.

3. Publicly, Jones must make a choir boy look like a delinquent in comparison to have any hope of digging out of this. Any misstep, even a traffic ticket, will be perceived badly. He must be seen as doing something constructive during his suspension (or during the fight over his suspension). Idleness will also be perceived negatively.

4. Once the suspension (or the fight) is over he must avoid any repeat occurrences for the rest of his football career. He will get no additional chances.

If he fails to accomplish any of the above, his football career may well be over.

There is a clause the supercedes any player/organization contract. It is the personal conduct clause that the NFL imposes on any player entering the league. In order to become eligable to play in the NFL, you must agree to this. Otherwise, you can't be drafted or signed. I am no lawyer but I believe this is how it works. The Commish can stand on that as reason to impose these rulings. This clause gives broad sway in matters such as these. I think that Pacman and his agent can do whatever they want but in the end, he's probably going to have more luck trying to get his degree then trying to change this rulling.

College classrooms don't offer a hell of a lot of structure. Nowhere near the structure that being on an NFL team offers. College/University faculty generally don't care if you come to class - most won't notice if you are there. He'll have somewhere to be (if he chooses to go) about 12-15 hours a week. The rest of the time is free.

I'm skeptical that he's using this to support his reinstatement next year.
Thats better than him doing nothing. Him getting a degree regardless of the motives is still better than sitting around the ATL with those other clowns.

Well, Fuzzy One, where is your law school degree?

thats not the point. lets just say i know people that are fluent. you sound like you have no idea wth youre talking about.

they are trying to change a contract and apply it to prior acts. i would take it to court too.

when pacman entered the league he signed off onto a different conduct contract. they just changed it yesterday or the day before.

Jones could argue that he was acting on the basis of the previous contract and would not have behaved the same had it been in its current state. now because the NFLPA is involved im sure they put in some wording so that they could but i would still fight it.

its like them changing the speed limit today and fining everyone that sped for the last 30 dyas. its crap.

That whole going back to school thing is BS said by the agent to make people be on pacmans side. It shouldn't have taken 4 incidents and a 1 year suspension to see the light. He's a moron who is not appreciating the opportunity he has been given to play in the NFL.

Perhaps but without knowing the verbaige contained in the original, how can you know that the Commish isn't within his rights to do this?

Persons Charged With Criminal Activity
Any Covered Person arrested for or charged with conduct prohibited by this policy will be required to undergo an immediate, mandatory clinical evaluation and, if directed, appropriate counseling. Such evaluation and counseling must be performed under the direction and supervision of the NFL Vice President of Player and Employee Development. Failure to cooperate with evaluation and counseling (including being arrested for or charged with additional criminal activity during the evaluation and counseling period) shall itself be conduct detrimental to the National Football League and shall be punishable by fine or suspension at the discretion of the Commissioner

The power of the commissioners office has always had a wide range of discreation when handing out punishment.

I love this. None of you have met the guy nor have you had any experinece of him at all except for what youve been spoonfed my ESPN or maybe some interview yet youve come to the conclusion that he cannot decide to live a more healthy lifestyle?

Its laughable. I wonder how many of you also feel that TO is a cancer and will never be anything but.

FuzzyLumpkins;1454259 said:
ever heard of the court system? all he has to do is prove that the NFL cannot change the contract concerning conduct and then apply it to previous acts. you realize that hes got his own lawyer and is acting outside of the NFLPA dont you?

Condescension thy name is Fuzzy.
