Maybe the defense is not as good as we thought?

Good thing we don’t face any more good running teams.
Defense can't win the game every week. Sometimes the Quarterback needs to take over when the Defense has an off day.
We were talked about as having an all time defense.

Every single all time defense won super bowls with average to below average QB play.

I would hope that Dak is better than Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Griese/Morrall, Simms, Eli, end of life Peyton, McMahon, Doug Williams…

That’s it! That’s the bar the a QB has to clear if they have an all-time defense.

They are only good if they can hit the QB or get turnovers. Otherwise teams can still run all over us or hit us for big plays.
That’s Dan Quinn style of defense. It’s good when it’s getting sacks and turnovers but just like last year teams run on us and we are super late to adjusting to it.

Defense is about discipline, gap control, physicality, and attitude

This defense will be fine if we go back to basics, there is plenty of talent and we have a good DC. No need to panic on defense

On offense, PANIC

My fear all along, even after taking Mazi, was that we were weak up the middle against teams that want to play bully ball against us. The Cards did just that. I suspect more will try. We are so aggressive off the edges in terms of getting to the QB that we often leave ourselves exposed there. Then throw in DTs outside of Hankins who can't hold up inside and you get what you saw yesterday.

Miami, San Fran and Philly can all do and likely will try the same thing.

Maybe they were not as good as they looked against the Giants and Jets, but this is still a good defense. Losing Diggs hurt a lot yesterday. The Cards were clearly picking on Bland and they hit some big plays on him. The Cowboys need to think about what they do there. The Cards speedy WR made some big plays because neither Bland or Gilmore could keep up with his quickness.

The defense is not as bad as it looked yesterday either. The entire team had a bad day. Even special teams screwed up when Turpin finally broke a long return and it was called back for a penalty. Too much chest pounding after the first two wins. Maybe this bad loss will wake them all up including the coaching staff.

Lets go out and score 16 points a game, how many games can you win??
Not many but that's not excuse for a piss poor showing by the defense yesterday.

It's funny how so many fans like to boil these losses and blame down to either/or discussions. We lost yesterday because we played stupidly/poorly on both sides of the ball. Trying to defend the defense today is kind of funny.

Yesterday was a team loss for sure. And I know that the defense isn't going to be holding teams to 20 points or less every game. And therefore the offense is going to have to step up and score a bunch of points. However some are talking like this defense played Mahomes or some other top 10-5 QB in the NFL. If the defense every now and then has a game in which they give up nearly 30 points to QBs of those caliber, then the defense can be given a little more leeway.

However this was a Josh Dobbs led Cardinals team, so the "Defense isn't going to be on every game or isn't going to be able to play great every game." approach some are taking to this game, doesn't absolve the defense from almost giving up 30 to a team like the Cardinals.

Bingo. The timely situational defense is still horrid. It's easy to make plays when you are up big and the other team can only pass. Giants game got away quick from them but leading up to the disaster, Giants were running all over us. Cardinals ran all over us. We still give up the big plays at the worst time.

NFL games are mainly close. Week 1 and 2 don't happen often, especially not back to back weeks. I judge the defense on can they show up when it counts and the game is close.Still don't see it. Our main guys are MIA as usual when it matters most.

Dan Quinn, Parsons, DLaw, nothing but front running hype. All fun and games when winning big. But they all fail with the game on the line. We see it year after year. You aren't going to get tons of sacks and turnovers every game at this level. Can you make your mark when those aren't happening? Answer is still no. Arizona didn't punt until the 3rd quarter. 21-16 and all we needed was to get the ball back once more. What happens? 60yd pass play right away to a guy with no one within 10 yards of him. And it seemed the drives and plays that didn't work for Arizona yesterday was just missed communication or a bad pass, not something Dallas was doing. When you give up over 200 on the ground to a lowly Arizona team, that should throw red flags up all over.

The biggest achilles heel for this defense for a long time now is their run defense. It's the single biggest reason we have lost our last 3 playoff games to the Rams and twice to the Niners. They controlled the ground game and gashed us. Wore us down over time. We look so weak up front too often.

We lost Diggs which hurt

And Dak is not good. He needs an elite defense so he can drive a bus

Saw what Herbert did today while his defense tried so hard to sell all the groceries? He went off

Losing Diggs made us vulnerable and Dak will sell us
Yall like to bring up Herbert when it's convenient. Maybe he shouldve went off when he had a 27-0 lead

Defense was bound to have some games where the offense needed to pull their own weight, today they were needed and failed. First game the defense didn't give them multiple turnovers to score with and they couldn't crack 20.
So a boom or bust defense. Seems to be Quinn's specialty. We either get 8 sacks and 4 turnovers or we get absolutely gashed on the ground and big plays all game. Seems to be no middle ground. That isn't the sign of a good defense and doesn't translate to long term success seeing as against good teams, they aren't going to be mistake prone. So it comes down to situational defense. Can you make that key 3rd down stop. Can you get a 3 and out. Can you get a key sack or a QB hurry to force a bad play. That is the sign of a good defense more than showing up every now and then with huge games but the rest are duds.

Offense used to be called on to win every single game. Every one. They got blamed for losing a game scoring near 40. Yet now, that the defense is now being depended on more, that goal posts move and its "welp, can't win them all". The thing is, they couldn't even make one single play against a lowly Cardinals team led by Josh Dobbs. They didn't make him uncomfortable at all. Even on the run, he found open guys. They let them control the entire game. I believe we stopped them a total of 2 drives all game, not counting the garbage time at the end.

I don't want to hear the injury excuse for the defense seeing as we were missing 3 of our 5 starters on the OL. Goes both ways.

At least they were a lot better in the 2nd half...minus that ridiculous blown coverage.

So in 3 games no TDs to WRs, lowest average depth of target per attempt (literally 33rd in the league, so worse than every starter plus a backup), and can't crack 20 points without being gifted 3 turnovers or defensive scores. Yeah, the defense is a concern against teams that can stay in the game and commit to the run, but the offense is what is holding this team back. Period.
