Mayock's prediction

Out of many dozens of draft analysts, Mayock has been the very best at final mock drafts over the last two years.
He gets about 25-26 right out of 32... Which is crazy.

Presumably he doesn't predict but reports (i.e. has sources). Which is why it's so interesting.

You guys seem to think Jerry steps in and goes against all his coaches and scouts to make draft picks.
He has not done that once in the Garrett era.

His wild actions usually show up via trades and free agent signings.

I think many around here believe Jerry has a yes-man fetish. The scouts and coaches know what Jerry wants to hear, they aren't idiots. They also know they are more likely to keep their jobs doing it. It comes across that way to me at least, especially when I keep hearing old names like Gil Brandt coming up over the years.

I believe that Jerry does want Manziel. I believe that if Romo's contractual situation were different, Jerry would be drafting Manziel, should he fall to us. Unfortunately, I don't think Jerry believes that he can draft Manziel and sit him for the 3 years or so it might take to get out from under Tony's contract. Because of this, I think it prevents Jerry from drafting Manziel, even though I believe he wants to. If Manziel is there at 16, I expect Jerry to make a deal and trade down.

There is no contractual condition that requires that Romo has to play every offensive snap or even start.
If Manziel (or any other QB) outperforms Romo, then bench Romo.
In 2012, Seattle drafts Russell Wilson after they just signed Matt Flynn to a ridiculous contract.
Competition allows a team to put its best players on the field.

You don't pay a QB 20 million a year to ride the pine or even share snaps. Matt Flynn's contract with Seattle was 26 Million for three years with 10 million guaranteed. That's less then what Romo makes in a year. Seattle had no QB and needed one and Wilson got paid very little so Seattle could do that. That's not the situation here in Dallas.

I think this is all true. But I'm not even sure Johnny would be at the top of the Cowboys draft board even if he fell all the way to 16.
Unless all else is equal, Jerry is not going to tell all the coaches and scouts to take a hike. That has not been his MO in the Garrett era..unless a trade is involved to match the board to his wishes.

Well the good news is that Mayock had one of the most accurate mocks last year apparently and Barr and Donald were both there. Good news for us because I think we take one of them over Johnny easily. At least I hope so, some weird stuff would have to happen for all three to be there.

You just compared Romo to Matt freaking Flynn. And also compared the 16th overall pick to a 3rd rounder.
Plus, Seattle had a ready made roster outside of QB.
Not the same situations at all.

I agree that Seattle was in a different situation and Flynn is no Romo but if Johnny Football is there and we take him then maybe Romo back is worst then we know. Already signed 2 FA and most likely a couple of UDFA. Either way doesn't matter if it's JFB or someone else, I'm not a cheer for certain player I'm a cheer for Dallas to win.

Just trust our board and take BPA no matter what position

One thing for sure ... if JFB gets to about 10 and starts falling toward the Cowboys, it's going to get suspenseful.

All reports indicate that Tony's back is coming along fine. I mean, if that were the case and we really did need a QB, then I think we would need one who could come in and play now. That's not really Manziel IMO. The value would still likely be for us to trade down with another team and acquire more picks but that is only my opinion.

Few things we don't really know:

1. Is Orton retiring?
2. If Orton shows up to camp, will he be into it or just showing up for a check?
3. Is Weeden showing anything so far? Does he look like he could win some games?
4. How bad is the situation with Romo's back, really Doc?

If they draft Manziel you have to figure some of these questions are negative in outlook.

A new wrinkle ... rumors that Manziel would "prefer" not to go to Jacksonville.

If Jax then takes him, all sorts of heck could break loose. He could hold out for a trade. He could sue the NFL and end the draft, for all we know.

It would be a waste for the league to have him in Jacksonville, IMO.

I think if I were Jones I would consider Manziel an insurance policy. If Romo goes down, the Cowboys become an afterthought for the rest of the season - UNLESS Manziel is thrust onto the field as a starter. It's a business.

Also, wasn't that Garrett comment "Romo is very young in the prime of his career" a little over the top, sort of like a bluff? Has he ever given his opinion on Manziel as a QB, being a former QB himself? His opinion would carry the weight of the world if he liked Manziel, as you know Jerry would already be on board and they could overtake the rest of the room with relative ease.

What a nube.

The constant attempt to paint the Cowboys as laughing stock by the NFL network is really over the top.

Constantly referring to the Cowboys as the "circus"? The circus that almost swept their division last year?

I can't believe they actually think Dallas will draft a small QB, undermining an existing QB that will count 32 million against the cap if he gets replaced. Even with the ideal defensive tackle falling into theirlap.

Mayock, Kyper, what a bunch of idiots.

Sorry but seeing the new stadium, training camps, and the new proposal for the practice facility, I hae a hard time characterizing the Cowboys as anything else than a circus that Jerry does nothing to insulate his players from.
