I believe that Jerry does want Manziel. I believe that if Romo's contractual situation were different, Jerry would be drafting Manziel, should he fall to us. Unfortunately, I don't think Jerry believes that he can draft Manziel and sit him for the 3 years or so it might take to get out from under Tony's contract. Because of this, I think it prevents Jerry from drafting Manziel, even though I believe he wants to. If Manziel is there at 16, I expect Jerry to make a deal and trade down.

Actually I can see this happening: The Cowboys draft Manziel. He is 3rd qb this year to sit and learn. Somewhere along the way, Tony gets hurt again and the Cowboys and he realize he can no longer keep doing this. Tony retires costing nothing against the cap or dead money and Manziel starts 2 years from now...

I'm actually against this as I don't think Manziel can hold up to the beating he's going to get any better than Tony. Manziel has all the physical tools, just not the physical makeup.

A new wrinkle ... rumors that Manziel would "prefer" not to go to Jacksonville.

If Jax then takes him, all sorts of heck could break loose. He could hold out for a trade. He could sue the NFL and end the draft, for all we know.

It would be a waste for the league to have him in Jacksonville, IMO.

It still puzzles me that Jacksonville FLA got a franchise. It is a waste to have those two Fla bottom feeders (TB included) With all the cities in the South & MW that could support a franchise (Birmingham, Oklahoma City, Boise) they give FLA a third team.

If that scenario came up, I would look into trading the 2nd/3rd, and a future pick (not a 1st) to get back into the first round to snatch both players (other team selections in that close span permitted). This DL could use both young talents in the worst way. Melton and Selvie are the talent as is If Romo's back doesn't come back to 2012 form (miss the deep ball), we still have the 2015 1st to select the team's future QB. This team is also pretty poor @ finding late round talent or contributors (UDFA not included). We have hit on our recent early picks (Mo/Esco tbd) in the first 3 rounds. This team is also looking @ having alot more cap space for 2015 FA next season after biting the Ware bullet (smart move) that can be invested in a promising class of FAs (can't resign ALL that talent).

I can see that but you don't think there is a pride factor? You don't think Candice tells Tony that she wants a healthy husband to help raise there children? I'm not saying that's what's going on but they are real possibilities. Also, isn't there something called a medical retirement ( I really don't know ) that would give a team an out if the person who is on this contract can't realistically play for medical reasons?

Yeah, I'm sure that discussion probably goes on but I am not sure that walking away from 40 Million bucks would the conclusion they might come to. I think it would be a different discussion if the back injury was of a more serious nature. By that I mean, if the Doctors told him that it was a possibility that further injury could result in paralysis or some such. To this point, I don't think that's a part of the discussion so I don't know how imperative it might be to consider walking away from that kind of money for health reasons.

Not impossible that this discussion might not be had but at this point, I can't see it. JMO
