Yesterday I read an article here about how Mazi's first step was much quicker than expected and how he was pushing his fellow teammates around during drills at training camp with his strength and quickness.
I saw none of that in the first PSG.
.
However, it's his first professional game, so we'll see how he does in the next one.
You actually don't believe for a minute that Mazi is actually playing his game yet.
Mazi just playing the team game right now, doing what he is told do by the coaches.
I'm willing to hold off attempting to even critique Mazi until he has at least a couple starts in the Regular season first.

I'm not one to overreact or expect every position to be immediate stars but it is concerning that he doesn't seem to be "noticeably different" than much less heralded players.

Oh. Is that what it is?
Thanks. Good to know.

Mazi got his first glimps of live action in the NFL at one of the harder positions to step into, he has the physicals to be really good lets see if he learns the dance while playing in PS games.. i think he will.

John Ridgeway in no way shape or form is a starter for the commanders

he is a rotational piece and benefits from having Payne and Allen wear down olinemen

Mazi smith is a rookie with 1 game under his belt

its too early for this

I've said for awhile that NTs have a 3 year development curve. I am a massive Mazi hater, but I am not writing him off after one preseason game. Odds were always low that he was going to make an impact as a rookie.

What I'm looking for this year is signs of life. Can he get off blocks, or shoot into the backfield at all. If he can even do it on a couple reps, it confirms the talent is there, and then it's just a matter of getting stronger. If he just sits there and stays glued to centers.... well, that may be why he never got 1 sack in college.

Ridgeway is also a better player than el stiffo Quinton Bohanna.

They made a mistake and it was obvious when they made it.

I'm worried he's going to fall into the 'great athlete, ok football player' category. Doesn't help that the other highly drafted DT (Carter) apparently played just 2 snaps and on 1 of them blew right by the OL to almost sack the Ravens QB. Expecting Mazi to be the kind of player Carter is going to be isn't even slightly realistic, but hopefully he can keep improving.
It’s worth noting that player Carter blew right past is equivalent to Josh Ball…..

A 315 pound man with knee issues? That's not going to end well.

Somebody who is not a waste, bust or massive reach must have stolen his jersey last night. Duece went right behind him on that long run. No practice time and guy still out there making a difference. Very impressive
Not like we could’ve gotten a blocking TE in the 6th round or something.

How can you tell an apple tree is actually an apple tree? ( whistling.........) Answer: By the fruit it produces. Another way of saying the cliche, talk is cheaper, show it.

When the Cowboys drafted Mazi, the sell job was " he is a great athlete". The Cowboys will coach the NFL into him. Well, a meanless preseason game and training camps, the Dallas Cowboys staff is not producing the fruit they were selling....so far. The staff couldn't do it with John Ridgeway after selling him when he was drafted. Dallas cut him and was picked up by the Commanders, who is a starters for them now.
Not giving up on Mazi, nor did he have a bust game, but being a #1 pick, the 1st showing was somewhat yawning.

And your 2nd round pick --right now --- looks like your 3rd string TE.

Want to see why Dallas can't sniff a NFC Conference game in 30 years, the groceries are bought from ALDI store
(Side note: OL was B-A-D and if just one starter goes down, look out )

All I did was point out that Mazi had a quiet first outing, and was met with passive aggressive, sideways accusations that I don't know football, or what I'm talking about.

What was I supposed to say for a guy who had just 1 tackle all night while the Jags out gained us on the ground by 50 yards or so? A first round pick should have at least had 5 to 8 tackles last night.

What I find funny, is when all of us learned to walk, we sucked at it. Mazi's first preseason game. Nobodies going to walk, run, do jumping jacks out of the block ladies and gentlemen.
