Mazie Smith (All-22) review?

He was always going to need some work but the one thing that keeps coming up that we've now heard from multiple sources is his slow get off. And that concerns me. Hopefully he's just still kind of feeling his way around.
Yeah, I wouldn't expect much change in that this season. There's nothing like a full NFL offseason for guys to really develop. My only concern is whether that's like a technique--something that can be taught and developed--or if it's more inherent. Guess we'll find out.

How long do y'all think it will take for Mazi to get his techniques right?
I'm not sure how long it should take but I was initially hoping during the season. As the season goes on and he will get better I think with more playing time. But realistically? I'm not sure when we should expect it.

I think year 2 he will start to show consistency and year 3 will be his break out. Hopefully Hankins has 2 good years left in him.

Not at all, everyone is different and the trenches cannot take some time. Just wondering when do you see things clicking for him.
I like him now. I think he improves throughout the season. By week 1 next year I think we have the finished product. That’s barring injury. Finished product is going to be a classic 1T run stuffer. He will never be a big stats guy. Poe was a monster for a few years. 20.5 career sacks in 9 seasons. A guy like Mazi fills a big need as an interior run stuffer and gap filler. Guys off the edges will feast. Hopefully our LBs will hunt and gather. It’s all going to be great brother.

Yeah, that would be good timing.

Broaddus mentioned that he had a so-so game. Had some snaps where he looked really good. His main issue was he was not consistently off-the-ball/on-the-snap quick. Thought he played with good power on most blocks.

I don't really either. There's a reason he is in the media and not working in the NFL. I was just reporting it, I didn't notice Mazi either. He was just doing a 22 review. Doesn't seem complicated for 17 snaps.

I guess the fact he only got 17 snaps is a little concerning (in a beatdown). Could've used the work I would think?
Went small, Goulston got those snaps and made the most of them. Bit counterproductive to go 2nd/3rd team pin your ears in a blowout and rush your 325lb 1tech!

He doesn't know how to rush the passer yet by all accounts.. Good opportunity to learn IMO..

Like most first round 1Ts, if you want to see if Mazi is on pace to be really good, you should only be looking for a couple flash plays this year.

Next year will still be somewhat quiet with a handful of excellent plays.

Year 3 is usually the ‘holy cow’ year for 1Ts where the lightbulb comes on and they start to understand how to play the position at the NFL level

I would be interested in knowing how many times he was double teamed. If the RB had to change direction at the line of scrimmage then Mazi did his job.

Jeez, Louise -- isn't it best to allow a rookie DT to get his legs under him before assuming he's a bust? Sometimes, patience is called for.

Could have drafted him in the 2-3 round.

He’s not Randy White.

Seems to have one move.
