Counting stats say he was pretty good.
Smith was credited with two tackles on the night, one of them for loss. He also recorded a pressure despite playing just seven rush snaps.
He played in a straight up NT rotation with starter Hankins and got only 1 less snap.
Giants obviously stopped trying to run and we played the 4 men pass rush of death almost exclusively.

You should expect about 20 snaps per game for him.
So this wasn't a bad night or a night off IMO.
You don't draft nose tackles to be Aaron Donald.
This is a meat shield 100%.
Osa and Mazi look like good starters going forward longer term with Gholston as that 3T who comes in for Mazi on passing downs.
Thats pretty impressive at DT given you have the very best DE rotation in the world.

They say the 600 pounders have actually developed meat aprons. I can only surmise they were Fupas that got out of control.

There are also beef curtains but I shan’t go into that nomenclature at this juncture.

I won't get up or down by some review from that game for him. Especially on 17 snaps.
Let's give him some more games and depending the situation and circumstances.

Need a much bigger body (no pun intended) of work and against different teams and their style of offense.
Exactly. He just needs time. He had a great coaching staff and players around him.

I watched the game a couple of times and focused on Mazi. First, I am pretty sure he had more snaps than Hankins in this game and I know some came early in the game so it is not like the Cowboys are afraid to put him on the field.

The Giants did double team him a bunch of times. Sometimes he stood his ground and sometimes he got turned. There were a couple of plays where he showed some quickness and got in the backfield. One play where he was one on one with the Giants LG and he shoved him aside pretty easily. He showed more in this game than he did in preseason, IMO. The Giants also double teamed Osa too and he didn't do much better against the double teams than Mazi.

Hankins was not in there much but when he was he showed how strong he can be. Mazi needs to learn from Hankins.

I remember when Derrick Brown was a rookie I watched him in a few games and he didn't do that much either. Jordan Davis was just so-so last year for the Eagles. I just think DTs take a year or two to reach their potential. We should look for signs of improvement from Mazi each week.

I would expect the jets will provide us with more tape and answers. I'm assuming the jets RBs will combine for 30+ carries.

Broaddus mentioned that he had a so-so game. Had some snaps where he looked really good. His main issue was he was not consistently off-the-ball/on-the-snap quick. Thought he played with good power on most blocks.
You’re right… He did have a few good plays. Once he pushed the center right back into the QB’s lap… which is what we need from him. And that was their second round pick center John Michael Schmitz who was one of the best OL in this draft. He’s a strong player and Mazi moved in with little problem.

Smith will improve as the season goes on and he is still providing something, even now.

His position is just not ever going to provide stats for fans to sink their teeth into.

He’s fine.

He only played 17 defensive snaps so it would be an easy evaluation. Cowboys went really heavy on the rotation last night.
Saw some formations with Micah and Dorance Armstrong on the inside with Tank & Fowler on the outside (one resulted in a Micah sack)

Quinn is having fun

Except we burned a 1st on him in the draft.

Bohanna is in Detroit now because of it.

It's been 3 preseason and one regular season game. He plays on a stacked team. They probably want him getting reps increasingly by game 7 or 8. It will be the longest season of his life.

Everyone needs to calm down. It was not a sexy pick, but it was absolutely what we needed. Would I have preferred Jalen Carter? yes...but...we got Osa and Mazi. That'll have to do with all the other pieces we got.

Should have used it on OL or RB.

Honestly, Bohanna outplayed him in preSeason. Everyone saw it.

He isn’t even gonna start. Hankins is the starter. Not even close.

Well, I for one, do not go by what this guy says.
Unfortunately his reviews weren’t the only ones that weren’t glowing. If he doesn’t start coming around in the next few weeks he may end up being a big mistake.

Probably didn’t get that many snaps because he hasn’t looked very good. Hankins started and he played well.
