I haven't tallied, but I would bet that 50/50 for carries is about

1st half:
75%Julius
25%Barber

2nd half:
25% Julius
75% Barber
I just posted the numbers, so you don't have to tally. It's about 60/40 in each half with Julius leading in the 1st and Marion leading in the 2nd.

I really think the answer is that Julius is a much more disciplined runner that will go ahead and take that 2 yards that is often all that is available on those early game runs whereas Barber will bounce in and out and is at higher risk of ending up with nothing on those early runs.
Well, you're right about one thing. Julius is getting about 2 yards each carry.

Barber had a few runs were he broke threw a few defenders for 8+ yards, in fact he did it a lot. Even Aikman said this guy just doesn't go down, he plays to win

barber is definitely a bad mofo late in game, but in first half he has way too many runs for no gain

Barber had one run in the first half of 8 yards. The rest were 3 yards or less. And didn't break anything until the 3 min mark of the 3rd quarter.

Julius longest runs in the 1st half came in the 2nd quarter for 11 and 6 yards. The rest were 2 yards or less

Barber owned the 3rd quarter, Julius finished them off in the 4th and then they both gave way to Tyson Thompson.

But if you look at the drive chart, neither did much for either side to crow about.

I think they had two goals: shut down TO and the running game.

They did both and we still put up 500 yards.:eek::eek:

yes we did well on offense. we have a lot of weapons and I think the coaching staff is using them effectively to their strengths.

Barber's strength is obviously not early game running. Even with the running split as mentioned above with Julius doing more first half carries, Barber has more runs for no or negative gain. Of course we all like his chaotic running style as it is energizing, but it does have its downside

Link? I call BS.

I've already shown your their first half stats. Barber is clearly better.

I just tallied through the box scores myself and through the first four games Barber has 8 runs for no or negative gain and Jones has six. Not that lopsided, but when you take into account which half they are running in, the difference is bigger.

This is completely irrational. Who cares if one has more carries for no gain, as long as on average he has a higher YPC?

3.8 vs. 2.6, dude.

it is quite rational.

I would much rather have a back that has

33 carries for 3 yards each than a back that has 32 carries for no gain and one carry for 99, wouldn't you?

Except that isn't what's going on.

It's more like:

Marion: 3, 0, 0, 15
Julius: 3, 2, 0, 2

Let's face it. Julius just isn't the "homerun hitter" that Marion is.

of course I exaggerated to make a point and I am glad we have BOTH barber and jones and hopefully we can keep using them as we have instead of being tempted to use barber more early on in the game where he is clearly not as effective as jones.

That did surprise me a little, but you'll have that sometimes.

I still like MB3 in any short yardage or goal line situation.

It was also nice to see JJ get a short yardage TD too.

There's a big disadvantage when you go from Hoyte as the lead blocker to either nobody or Cricket Anderson.

not trying for any ownage, just trying to get the point across that:

We need BOTH backs

The coaching staff knows what the ____ they are doing running jones in first half and barber in second half

Calls to bench/trade/cut julius and make barber the solo featured back are extremely short-sighted
