The Cowboys must go beyond their playoff results over the past 25 seasons. Only some special circumstances would prevent McCarthy from being fired if this is not achieved.

After all, either the HC or the GM or both will be blamed for the lack of success. Since it's the owner who gets to decide who is to blame and since the owner is the GM, what is the natural conclusion?

Does beating the Eagles lock Mike McCarthy's job security for 2023 or could a first-round playoff exit still lead to his firing? It's setting up for the Cowboys to have a favorable wild card game. They will be favored on the road.

"Does beating the Eagles lock Mike McCarthy's job security for 2023" No. Not at all.

Heck no, first round loss and the Fat lady can start warming up her vocal cords with 2 minutes left in that game.

I hope MM is back next year. If he's fired, we are starting over once again..... and Kellen Moore will prob still be here as OC under Sean Payton anyway, per Jerry's wishes. I may be in the minority, but I like the overall job MM has done here. He's much better than clappy clown was , and clappy clown got to stay 10 yrs.

Dallas has already won their most regular season games (23) across a two year span under McCarthy since they won 24 from 1994-95.

I think it might take at least two playoff wins to stop the talk about Big Mike's job security, but we also know Jerry Jones isn't eager to make changes when he thinks his team is "close".

It’s going to be tough for the Joneses to move on from McCarthy because of the games we won with our backup QB, and all the defensive injuries we’ve suffered. We’ve just made the playoffs for the first time in back to back season since 06 and 07. It’s provided an excuse to keep him. Plus we just beat arguably the best team in the league right now. It’s probably going to take a rough season for him to get fired. However, if we were to lay a rotten egg in the first round of the playoffs the Cowboys could possibly move on from him, especially if Sean Payton were to show interest in the job. As we sit here right now, McCarthy will be back next season.

I agree with you. Throwing out 2020 because of the pandemic, Dak's injury, and the mistake of having Mike Nolan run the defense this team is 23-9 under MM.

McCarthy’s future will probably be determined in the playoffs. However- I don’t believe for one second that Sean Payton is the next HC here. He’s used to having a level of authority over a team in ways that Jerry won’t allow. Besides, Payton’s resume’ is basically McCarthy’s resume’.

You can bet Jed after Tuna will never give up that much again to a coach. He wants one last SB before he leaves here, so he can say he did it his way but he doesn’t realize he is the problem.

We could argue McCarthy's resume is better. He was in the playoffs in Green Bay more consistently than Payton was in New Orleans, and they both had Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

Can't blame Payton for that type of freedom. Smart choice. And we know if Payton had a wildly successful season, Jerry would pull the rug out from under Payton's independence.

if the Cowboys don’t at least make it to NFCCG I’m going all in for Payton
