I really appreciate the various opinions on this topic. It's pretty obvious that the regular season does not matter to some of you. For you individuals, it's the postseason where you measure the worth of our head coach. For others of you, the actions of our head coach to navigate adversity are valued and so just getting this team to the playoffs despite losing our QB for several early season games has earned him another year as our HC. I certainly see more eye to eye with that perspective. This season could have easily fallen apart early but Mike kept this team believing in itself. I think he is a candidate for coach of the year. Playoffs are clinched, and a favorable match in the wildcard round seems to be in the cards.
I agree. there are a lot of opinions and I think the context has to do with the level of expectation and how fair and realistic fans are willing to be.
It's all fine and wonderful to hold high lofty standards based on some historic entitlement, but what is fair? What is realistic?
How in the world can you fire a HC with back to back double digit wins when they are the best regular season results in the past 25 years?
If all NFL fan's only standard is SB champion or unemployment, then every season 31 of the 32 teams would be looking for a new HC.
I would set the criteria at getting into the playoffs consistently. If they are in the playoffs almost every season then probability dictates that the Cowboys win a share of championships.
Whatever McCarthy is doing, the Cowboys have been given back to back opportunities and that is all we can realistically hope for.
