This team carries a ton of recent playoff baggage. I’m not certain he retains his job with a quick playoff exit, but I’ve become a believer in him.

there are ALOT of things the HC of this franchise has to deal with, he’s handled them extremely well. He’s a culture changer and a consistent winner. I know it’s about championships, but you could do much worse than having Michael John McCarthy lead your football team.

I cannot believe people on here are so quick to accept mediocrity. In this sport more than any coaching matters. Did we not learn anything last years 49er game. That is a game we should not have lost, not only did we look unprepared we had penalty after penalty. Regardless of our flaws we have a good team this year.

There is no reason we can't make a run. Anything less is unacceptable and accepting the same mediocrity we have seen the past 20 years.

Forget Just MM, Moore and Dan Quinn have not proven they can adjust. You really trust they can win 4 gams in a row in the playoffs.

I'm all for getting Peyton. We have talent, a good coach can elevate talent. For us thats the difference between a divisional round exit and a SB appearance.

I agree
He has to win a couple games in playoffs
But those thinking Payton would be the guy if he’s fired don’t know Jerry. The next HC is on the staff if Jerry did make a move
I know many hate McCarthy but they should see that Jerry loves his OC and DC and they aren’t going anywhere unless it’s to be a HC somewhere
Changing HC jeans changing them and I don’t see Jerry doing that
Jerry has always wanted Sean to coach the Cowboys. He always regretted letting him walk out the door. He had a deal in place to trade for him a few years ago. He wanted him this year but Sean wanted to take a year off.

McCarthy is going nowhere! He has done a masterful job, better than he did in GB. In GB he had Rodgers, here he has Dak and has had his team playing winning football. Throw in the fact that he is doing it with 1 NFL quality WR.

He's safe!

Does beating the Eagles lock Mike McCarthy's job security for 2023 or could a first-round playoff exit still lead to his firing? It's setting up for the Cowboys to have a favorable wild card game. They will be favored on the road.
Making the playoffs in consecutive seasons for first time since 2007 should secure McCarthy’s job.

Why do we keep lowering the bar for this guy? He is a walk-a-round coach who adds nothing....cannot manage a clock, or convey to his OC what he wants run in tight situations....he managed to blow TWO games that will end up making the difference between 2 home games or 3 road games to make the Super Bowl. So he gets another year for beating Philly at home with their backup starting??? Pfffffftt!!!

I think if Big Mike wins at least 1 playoff game he is a lock to return next season. A loss in the wildcard round and things are very much up in the air.

The expectation of some of the fans in more recent times is crazy in my opinion. After having a home playoff game last year and underperforming, having a million penalties, not being ready to play.

Anything less than an NFC title game this year McCarthy is gone. I'm sick of the mediocrity. This team either performs when it counts or doesn't.
But hasn't the past 25 years demonstrated that the problem is obviously not the HC but the guy who hires him?

That's what needs to change. That has always been the problem and using the HC to scapegoat every 3 to 10 years isn't going to change the results, just the guy who gets blamed for the results.

Prediction:

Dallas finishes 12-5 (maybe 13-4 with a C. Rush led victory in Landover)
Then comes a two-for-one exercise the demons scenario as
Dallas wins the first playoff road game since good ol' helmet hair
was here AND finally defeat Tom Brady!
Followed by a stunning victory over Philthy in their house.
Ending in a loss at San Francisco as there will be no answer for
McCaffrey/Samuel/Kettle.

Big Mike returns to call his own plays in 2023 as Kellen Moore
is offered a job somewhere and is encouraged to take it.

Barring Jimmy Johnson suddenly de-aging 30 years, there is no Coach I think is worth several first round draft picks or whatever number the Saints were throwing around. There are teams that did it and won, but I just cringe at anything resembling our infamous WR trades.

Bucs gave up first round picks for Gruden and won the SB. Patriots gave up a 1st rounder to the Jets for Belichick. We all know what happened in New England.

It has happened.

Only coach we should consider doing that for is McVay or Shanahan imo.

A first-round playoff exit won't keep Fat Mac from returning.
Goodness, wayward lad, it is Jerry who would decide. Goodhearted, dumb Jerald.

Good chap, disabuse yourself of the notion the FO operates on a professional basis all the time.

I agree. there are a lot of opinions and I think the context has to do with the level of expectation and how fair and realistic fans are willing to be.

It's all fine and wonderful to hold high lofty standards based on some historic entitlement, but what is fair? What is realistic?

How in the world can you fire a HC with back to back double digit wins when they are the best regular season results in the past 25 years?

If all NFL fan's only standard is SB champion or unemployment, then every season 31 of the 32 teams would be looking for a new HC.

I would set the criteria at getting into the playoffs consistently. If they are in the playoffs almost every season then probability dictates that the Cowboys win a share of championships.

Whatever McCarthy is doing, the Cowboys have been given back to back opportunities and that is all we can realistically hope for.
Well said, I couldn't agree more.

Probably depends on how much Moore is in touch with Garrett. Pretty sure Jason would win the Game of Thrones

Jerry isn’t giving a premium pick for a coach
The saints decide on who gets him since they own his rights

I felt he was a lock when they handed Dak a 4-2 team after returning from a 5 week absence with injury.

I think it will come down to how ugly our playoff loss is. Bad coaching in game decisions etc.

The expectation is to win the first game and lose a competitive 2nd game IMO.

If we get embarrassed in game two I think it’s possible he could be on the hot seat.
