Didn’t address our weak-azz SS spot did ya?
Edit - not you. Will.
While I did like Saunders he doesn’t have the physical ability of Hill. Their explosion and get off are two different things entirely, and it is that explosion that Dallas wanted at 3T.
I would say the kid wren was more comparable. and he was there at 90.
bla bla bla..........................Marinellis tells them what he wants for his 3 tech DT. Without being lobbied for by Marinelli that Hill was EXACTLY what he was looking for, McClay or Jones dont make the pick.
Same goes for Richards and his Dbacks.
I could really care less about your side point that "at the end of the day.........yada yada yada".
Well, Wren is a lot closer physically to Hills traits than Saunders... so I’m with you on that. I do feel like Hill is stronger and more explosive but yes, Wren could have been a good fallback plan.
Hill is a good 10-15 pounds heavier too on an inch shorter frame, and speaking for myself, I like the more compact guys at the 3T.
The bottom line is, the team loved Hill and was the guy they wanted to fall to them. I think the guy will be great at 3T but all we can do now is wait and see.
Also, keep in mind that I didn’t like Thornhill nearly as much as a lot of guys here. I actually liked Rapp more.
You can replace his name with every other owner or gm in league with that quote two days after the draft. Who's going to come out and say anything remotely different about their draft at this point? Nobody.......
I would have taken either one over Hill at 58
I know man... let’s hope you’re wrong.
and no one cares about your point..'yada, yada, yada"
and just as many people would have cried had we not address the DT spot.
Who should they have picked in his stead?
Eh. He doesn't have to be wrong. If Thornhill turns out to be Ed Reed but Hill turns out to be Geno Atkins we'll still be in good shape.
Players gotta play...…………..McClay is the least of our worries.
Renell Wren if Hill doesn't drop to 90.
Wren is not a pass rusher, 1T
I think this will prove to be a solid draft.
they got some good players who will help this team be better moving forward.
My question was, of what was available who should the Cowboys have drafted at 58?
I asked that question because I suspect most people will say Safety. To which I would reply, "be specific...which one?"
The reason I ask is because I think most people had a pet cat Safety they wanted and were hoping to replace Heath.
Here's the problem: Most people's pet cat was Juan Thornhill. I like him as well. The problem is he is a Free Safety not a Strong Safety, meaning he would have been a replacement for Xavier Woods, a guy I believe the Cowboys really already like as a starter, so in hindsight, and despite the front offices supposed interest in Thornhill, that pick really didn't make sense for the Cowboys unless they were planning on playing two Free Safeties at once.
Considering who they did draft, that suggest from the beginning they were looking for a Strong Safety.
Once I say that, though, I'm sure some will bring up Taylor Rapp, which begs the question: Does Rapp really give us more than Heath does presently? Because I really don't think so. In fact, I'd say Rapp would have been even more of a liability in coverage than Heath is presently, so all in all, my point is, I get why the Cowboys went in the direction they did.
They would have played Thornhill at SS. They like him, just not as much as Hill. Rapp had dropped in their eyes, it was either the 40 time or that he had a hip injury that caused the poor 40 time.
Wren will draw a paycheck in the NFL, nothing more. Hill and Saunders are each 2X the player Wren is.
