And the same people applaud and defend every move.

Opposite sides of the same coin.

We all know McCray can't play safety to save his life. That being said, the guy is a hell of a ST player if you pay attention to such plays. Always around the ball and makes good tackles. For some reason, he tends to injure a lot of people, but unfortunately doesn't discriminate based on team. He will injure opposing players and cowboys (see Mo Claiborne in the Bengals game). He's a human wrecking ball, so take that for what it's worth.

Um, recognizing that a move isn't one of significance isn't "applauding" that move.

Cowboys Tender Restricted Free Agent Danny McCray

Posted 11 minutes ago
KavnerDallasCowboys.com Staff Writer [IMG] IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys made a one-year tender offer for $1.323 million to restricted free agent safety on Friday.
Any offer made to McCray by other teams can be matched by the Cowboys, but they won’t receive any compensation if McCray leaves, since he went undrafted.
McCray’s served mostly as a special teams ace during his three seasons with the Cowboys, but he started 10 games at safety in 2012 as the team adjusted after injuries. He led the group in special teams tackles in back-to-back seasons each of his first two years in the NFL, accomplishing a feat no other Cowboys player had since Bill Bates in 1989-90.
He was a valued member of the special teams units of coach Joe DeCamillis, who’s now the special teams coach in Chicago. Despite his increased role at safety last season, McCray still had 18 total special teams tackles, according to coaches’ film, placing him only behind for the team lead.
McCray’s the only restricted free agent the Cowboys gave a tender offer to this offseason. They were able to avoid using the tender on center , who signed a two-year deal a week ago

I might be the only one who feels this way but that is too much money for a special teams stud. He gives NOTHING on defense and that money could have been used to add to a good free agent safteys contract.
Another stupid move.JJ is just killing this team with these stuip moves. the team already is in bad shape with it's cap. this was flat out dumb.

Not sure the writer is right about the bolded part. It looks to be like we placed a second-round tender on him, which means a team would have to give us a second-round pick to sign him.

The tender he would receive as a UDFA would be much lower.

It all comes down to JJ and his people not getting it. they keep over paying and bringing back the same players, and expecting a different result. it just stupid.giving a special teams cover guy 1.3 million dollars a year is just crazy.

When you're discussing a million dollar cap hit for a special teams leader, yeah, I'm neither ecstatic nor manic.

Yes, I could live without Dallas tendering McCray, but it's really not that important anyway except to those who believe it will make Dallas unable to sign FAs.

I am with you.

Great special teamer but a complete liability when asked to play defense.

$1.3 million for a special teamer but 'can't afford' $4 million to fix your starting right tackle spot?

Yeah, there's good reason why this team is mediocre.

Ok, now I won't blame anybody for roasting Jerry for this move.

McCray? what the......

He was the worst or at least top 3 worst players on the team last year. This is a complete joke.

I think it's a good deal. He's a great special teams player and we need as many great players we can get.

Bill Bates was a "great" special teams player.

Jim Schwantz, Kenny Gant, Elvis Patterson, Joe Fishback and Keith Davis were "great" special teams players.

Name one play, a quality tackle, blocked punt, something that makes Danny McCray great?

It is amazing that mediocrity has numbed this fanbase to how poorly this franchise views talent. You could grab another Danny McCray at any time.

Take a look around the NFL. See the real contending teams in this league scrambling to give their special teams demons a million dollars?

Frampton > Danny "Alan Ball" McCray

I did like Frampton better, but right now, our safeties are Barry Church (coming off injury), Matt Johnson (coming off injury), some guy named Michael Pellerin and McCray.

Frampton and Charlie Peprah are unrestricted free agents who might choose not to re-sign with Dallas.

So I'd rather see Dallas pay the relative low cost to keep McCray and then bump him off the roster in training camp if enough safeties prove to be better.

This does seem like a lot of money for a STer. Could they maybe be expecting him to contribute defensive snaps? That seems unlikely given some of his issues last season. Unless they think the problem then had to do with him diagnosing responsibilities that won't be a problem in the new scheme. That doesn't seem very likely, though.

Seems like Dallas wants to shift away from signing vet olinemen, but instead develop their own. Your also not giving Parnell a shot. I like Winston, but find it troublesome that hes already on his 3rd team. And who knows if Jerry and co. don't draft a OT, or sign another OT sometime this off season.

When did they make the shift? Just last season the both guard positions were filled with free agents. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the line should be built with free agents, but there has been nothing that shows Jerry is against it. I think free agents are the way he wants to go to save the draft picks for other positions. Last year there were three free agents signed that started. Three jag free agents.
