McCray tendered

Bill Bates was a "great" special teams player.

Jim Schwantz, Kenny Gant, Elvis Patterson, Joe Fishback and Keith Davis were "great" special teams players.

Name one play, a quality tackle, blocked punt, something that makes Danny McCray great?

It is amazing that mediocrity has numbed this fanbase to how poorly this franchise views talent. You could grab another Danny McCray at any time.

Take a look around the NFL. See the real contending teams in this league scrambling to give their special teams demons a million dollars?

Bill Bates was a great special teams player, but he was ALSO a very productive and reliable saftey.

Oh I'm sure you know.

As a matter of fact, I do.

Bates was the NFL special teams player of the year in his rookie season.

He made the Pro Bowl in his second year and was responsible for the league actually creating a special teams spot on the roster.

He was a starter in his fourth year and a vital cog in our nickel/blitz packages later in his career.

Danny McCray is entering his fourth season and is a liability if he sees the field in regular defenses.

But, hey, who knows! Maybe McCray could be better!

Unbelieveable.

I suspect this means that they are fine with McCray being the potential starting Safety next year if Johnson can't stay healthy and they don't find a draftee who is capable of starting in his first year.

I don't think they are tendering him because he is a good ST player. It is because he is the contingency plan at Safety.

Didn't the Cowboys tender Hurd like 1.7 million a couple years ago and he was mostly just a special teams player. I'm not sure Hurd contributed anymore offensively than McCray does defensively.

I thought there was a prevailing opinion that the Cowboys treated ST's too much as an afterthought and needed to spend the money to keep their better players around? Maybe that was just a media member opinion I read or something.

Great post. I seriously cannot believe people are complaining about a 1.3 million dollar tender. This place is getting out of control with the negativity.

Yea that's great for Bates, he was awesome and one of my favs but why belitle McCray? He's a excellent ST's player and obviously the staff likes him in that roll. The team needs all out plyers who lay it on the line on ST's. They see McCray as that type of player. But again, certainly you know better then the staff, they only see him every day in practice. Unbelievable is exactly right.

We won't pursue Winston because he isn't very good.

That's why we won't pursue Winston.

According to who?

You?

Compared to what we have now, this guy is Hall of Fame material.

You don't want him starting for you but you do like him being on STs. I doubt many of us look at STs much but he's been stellar from the reports of the coaches.

Personally, after three years if he can't challenge for a starter's spot or at least provide adequate backup then I'm ready to move on. We don't need too many marginal backups even if they play STs well.

OTOH, if STs is going to drag the team down without one or two McCray's on the team then you are forced to keep him.

This is the teams call esp the STs coach whose job is on the line.

All these decisions aren't black and white.

Sometimes one is forced to choose the lesser of two weevils.

THAT was a great scene in Master & Commander

because smarter fans realize that spending that kind of money for a below average safety and above average ST player is STUPID.

At this point, if the money spent to resign McCray results in the second coming of Kenny Gants shark dance, I will take it... we have blown far more for less entertainment.

"Isn't very good" is a upgrade for the right tackle position at this time.

Out of control with negativity? Since when has questioning a decision become negative? There has been many decisions that the Cowboys have made that needs questioning. This is one of them. The resources spent on a special teams player that offers little production on the defense side of the ball, could effect the signing of players that could offer more value. It is a legit concern. Not a negative concern.

Hahahahaha!!! You're entertaining and very funny, you seem to know more then the professionals in the frtofc. I think they know who they want to sign and what they want to pay for them. They know their money better then any of us on this board and yes, that includes you. Smh!!!
If they know so much, how come they have 1 playoff win in all most 17 years? that is pitiful.so i would not brag about how much they know.looks like they don't know jack.
