[*]
[IMG] IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys made a one-year tender offer for $1.323 million to restricted free agent safety on Friday.
Any offer made to McCray by other teams can be matched by the Cowboys, but they won’t receive any compensation if McCray leaves, since he went undrafted.
McCray’s served mostly as a special teams ace during his three seasons with the Cowboys, but he started 10 games at safety in 2012 as the team adjusted after injuries. He led the group in special teams tackles in back-to-back seasons each of his first two years in the NFL, accomplishing a feat no other Cowboys player had since Bill Bates in 1989-90.
He was a valued member of the special teams units of coach Joe DeCamillis, who’s now the special teams coach in Chicago. Despite his increased role at safety last season, McCray still had 18 total special teams tackles, according to coaches’ film, placing him only behind for the team lead.
McCray’s the only restricted free agent the Cowboys gave a tender offer to this offseason. They were able to avoid using the tender on center , who signed a two-year deal a week ago

I might be the only one who feels this way but that is too much money for a special teams stud. He gives NOTHING on defense and that money could have been used to add to a good free agent safteys contract.

I am with you.

Great special teamer but a complete liability when asked to play defense.

$1.3 million for a special teamer but 'can't afford' $4 million to fix your starting right tackle spot?

Yeah, there's good reason why this team is mediocre.

Yhea, that does seem quite a bit for a ST stud. They must really like him. Interesting that he's the only rfa they gave a tender to. Didn't think he was that special personally.

Huh? Whats the "can't afford" part?

Off-season just started

$1.3 Mill here and 800 Thousand there and just how quickly can that add up?

Pretty soon you have frittered away enough CAP SPACE that could have gotten a decent guard or safety.

I think this is a really dumb move that much cap space on a ST gunner

I find it interesting that we would receive no compensation if somebody else outbid us. I didn't know that was how it worked for UDFA. Hmm.

I'm already hearing it from 'The Defenders' as the excuse for why this team won't pursue free agent OT Eric Winston.

The fanboys do such a great PR excuse-making job for the team that they don't need Rich Dalrymple.

I think it's a good deal. He's a great special teams player and we need as many great players we can get.

Wasting $$$'s on a ST's player.. Hate it, especially with the way the rules are now when it comes to kickoffs, it's not like this guy is a gunner or anything special on the punt team.

if we don't go after winston it won't have a thing to do with mccray. it's about parnell. why sign winston if you think parnell can play?

Well apparently there is something in McCray that I am not seeing and the Cowboys do. Take it FWIW I guess.

Maybe that's the real problem, if they 'think Parnell can play' like Winston, it says it all.

Yes, I'm very excited, and can't wait for the season to start.

I agree...special teams are not important.

Seems like Dallas wants to shift away from signing vet olinemen, but instead develop their own. Your also not giving Parnell a shot. I like Winston, but find it troublesome that hes already on his 3rd team. And who knows if Jerry and co. don't draft a OT, or sign another OT sometime this off season.

I defended the guy last season, because he was being asked to do too much.

But this move is ridiculous.

Just bums me out that I feel hat hey will squander an opportunity at in my opinion one of the league's better right tackles.

Says a lot to me that the Texans, Winston's former team, is reportedly interested in having him return.

I think he's out in Kansas City because they're going OT at #1 overall and moving their franchise tackle to the right side.

And Houston cut him originally due to cap troubles.

I think he is just what this team needs.
