McNabb-"Black QBs get criticized more than White QBs"

Ought to just shut up and play better. But since he can't he uses the race card. Which just goes to show that Rush was right about him in the first place.

If you are black qb and avergae, the you will be CUT or on the bench getting ready to be cut like

Dante Culpepper
Byrin Leftwich

So Del Rio cut Leftwich because he is black... only to replace him with this man?

As far as Culpepper, he was one of MANY players on that team moved out because the new regime wanted to get rid of the bad image they had earned. His position has now been filled by this guy:

I'm having a hard time understanding your logic...

McNabb says black QBs under more pressure

African-American quarterbacks face more pressure and more criticism than their white counterparts, Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb says in an interview scheduled to air on HBO on Tuesday night.

McNabb
McNabb, in an interview on "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," tells interviewer James Brown that African-American quarterbacks such as himself face added pressure because there are fewer black QBs -- and because some still don't want black athletes playing the position.
"There's not that many African-American quarterbacks, so we have to do a little bit extra," McNabb tells HBO. "Because the percentage of us playing this position, which people didn't want us to play ... is low, so we do a little extra."
In just-completed Week 2, five of the 32 teams (15.6 percent) had black starting quarterbacks.
Later in the interview, Brown presses McNabb on criticism of his performance -- and if African-American QBs are graded more harshly.
"I pass for 300 yards, our team wins by seven, [mimicking] 'Ah, he could've made this throw, they would have scored if he did this,' " McNabb tells HBO.

"Doesn't every quarterback go through that?" Brown asks.
"Not everybody," McNabb replies.
Brown then asks if the media is tougher on him than on white quarterbacks such as Carson Palmer and Peyton Manning.

"Let me start by saying I love those guys," McNabb tells HBO. "But they don't get criticized as much as we do. They don't."

In the interview, McNabb also talks to Brown about playing in Philadelphia, a city known for passionate sports fans who aren't afraid to criticize the city's pro athletes.

"Every year I'm part of some criticism," McNabb tells HBO. "But every day that we go through life, you're faced with a lot of adversity. Now the answer is how do you handle the adversity. How do you respond?

"I try to handle myself with class. I try to handle myself with dignity. I think sometimes people look to players to act out, speak loudly, pretty much be an idiot. But that's not me."

I really hate reading this type of garbage. There is not a single coach in the NFL who does not want the best player at the QB position. Be them black/white/yellow/fucia....whatever the color.

That is totally rediculous of Donovan to say. What a bunch of crock.

"There's not that many African-American quarterbacks, so we have to do a little bit extra," McNabb tells HBO. "Because the percentage of us playing this position, which people didn't want us to play ... is low, so we do a little extra."

What flippin PLANET is McChunk on? Sure we have issues still w/ race but I don't see that in the NFL.

Putting a white qb in over the more talented black QB should get any NFL coach fired on the spot.

I thought Mcnabb was smarter w/ the things he says.

It certainly does not look like it. It looks like more excuses from the barf-mastah.

DmAc should just get out of the league if he can't take the heat. Which is all it is. Pressure - something he has NEVER dealt well with I might add.

Someone get me a barf-bag. I think Im gonna puke.

Personally, I like McNabb...He seems like a good guy and was a heckuva QB at Syracuse too...His teammates, save 1 in particular love him.

Nothing he said is easy to refute.

It's a card. I have one.

On it it says - WHITEBOY. I carry it everywhere I go. I give it to the POLICEMAN when he pulls me over. He looks at it and says "Ok - you can go now Mr. Dallas."

Everyone should get one of these race cards.

Off to the NFL Zone to die, lol.

This is the point - he's overrated. That's the card to play. He was a great college QB, he is a nice guy, he is a physical speciman - he must be a hall of fame QB. Wrong. When athletes like him start to age, they lose their allure as an NFL QB.

I think a lot of you are missing the point. I never said white qb's don;t get CRITICIZED, i just said that they are not expected to do certain things like black qb's like RUN. Tony Romo for example, is a mobile QB and it's viewed as a bonus but not really a requirement. On the otherhand, blacks qb's are expected to run-I DON"T KNOW WHY but they are. How do I know? because doug williams was less mobile than eli manning and was cut. Randall cunningham was a scrambler and had a ten year career.

All QB have certain abilities regardless if it is being mobile or not. Jacksonville did not bring in Leftwich to be a running QB and because he is black does not mean he is swift of foot. In the case of Vick yes they looked at his ability to run as an asset and felt they could improve him ability as a QB who could also work from the pocket. Face it all QB's must have the ability to work from the pocket if not you may as well throw the playbook out the window and just have WR look for open areas as they do on plays that are breaking down. This is not the NCAA and NFL teams are not running the option. Coach have set plays with WR running exact routs and you can't have your QB just running around.

I disagree with this. I like McNabb. Always have. I think he's very intelligent, but I do think he has a bit of a persecution complex when it comes to being criticized. He's doing his best so he thinks all criticism is therefore unfair.

He's wrong.

That sums it up for me. and he gets too down on himself and the team when its not going well and he's unable to bounce back. He's not one to rally the troops when the going gets tough, he isolates himself from the teamates on the sidelines when they're losing.

As far as his interviews, he makes comments implying he doesnt want to be involved in all this turmoil, he should just let the criticism go then, but he takes it so personal.

Often he doesnt respond at firts, but later holds a private or special interview with someone in a controlled setting so he can speak out, but it just ends up making a BIGGER deal out of the whole thing, so that its not just what he says but how he comes across.
