McNabb is currently nursing three seperate injuries: chest and shin contusions and an abdominal strain. If the chest contusion were not problematic enough another worry for the Eagles is centered around the "abdominal strain", which could very well be a sports hernia. If so, the sports hernia will pose problematic for his performance mobility and motion wise. Coupled with the reoccuring nature of the chest contusion Donovan may struggle or be shelved for quite awhile this season.
If he does indeed have a sports hernia and it requires surgery he could be out a substantial amount of time (at least 6-8 weeks in some cases)and without surgery his performance will be hampered by insidious groin pain. They are awaiting results but many times a sports hernia can be present without a clinically detectable hernia in traditional terms. Surgery is the preferred method of treatment and usually requires a total of 6-8 weeks before an athlete can perform again.
This injury is close to home for me as I had this very injury from heavy weight training and running three years ago. I was able to exercise after 4 weeks but still had much discomfort. Even at 8 weeks, I was still not 100% and could not engage in a physical contact sport at the time. I know these guys have the best schedules, physicians and therapies money can buy, but even 6-8 weeks could pose problematic for the Eagles without McNabb.
Reid seems to be worried about the chest contusion even more because Donovan felt soreness after the hit from Sapp on Sunday. This "reoccuring" injury will not draw the sympathy of opposing defenses and will probably put a bulls eye on Donovan IMO.
Do you think that playing the Eagles with an injured McNabb makes our meeting with them in two weeks a much better scenario? If these injuries are substantial does this soften the Eagles grip on the division and NFC in general?
No one credible desires to see an outstanding player hurt like Rodney Harrison, Spikes and a Donovan McNabb. Yet, these injuries will impact their respective teams to be sure and may open the door for the opportunities of others. Though we are unsure of the exact extent of McNabb's injuries, we do know Reid is deeply concerned over them which of consquence, could alter the complexion of the NFC in general and the NFC East in particular.
Your Thoughts???
