I believe everyone has the right to freedom of speech, and their own opinion.

Verdict ...seriously no disrespect! But don't wave the flag in my face on this one. I love the rights and freedoms that go along with freedom of speech, etc -- I've served my country and fought for those same liberties. We're all Americans here (at least most of us). But you don't rush into a movie theater and shout fire just because you don't like the movie (clarification ...you don't have to make dirty remarks about an injured player just because you think it will raise your team's chances of victory)!

In my humble opinion, this politically correct stuff has gone WAY too far I think it is entirely appropriate for a poster to say that he doesn't mind facing the Eagles at less than 100%

Have you read some of the Posts clearly here? You've minimized this issue significantly! Here's some quotes for you to review again ...

The hell I don't. I hope every damn starter is injured when we play them. So does everybody else. Cheer for injuries? You're damn right I do.

ha ha. I agree. Fork this sympathy nonsense. These are multi million dollar players. As long as these injuries aren't life threatening or permanent ... I could care less if they're all on crutches

as long as the injury isnt career ending or hurts his life I hope he sits the whole year for all I care. Its part of the game

Is that enough examples to convince you that we're not talking about the mentality of meeting an opponent team less than 100 percent -- we're talking about advocating injury to encourage enthusiastic support. You're wrong about your observations.

I would guess that a full 90% of this board was pleased by the misery faced by the Eagles this past offseason with Owens' antics, the issues with Westbrook, et al. I will include myself in that category.

Huh!? ...different topic. You must have cut and pasted this post (sorry, that was rude of me -- I witdraw that statement).

While I doubt most fans would wish injury upon a player that is life threatening, or causes permanent injury to a player I am sure that most fans WOULD be happy that IF a player was going to be injured, they would be happy it is an opponents' player rather than his own team,

You're stepping all over your tongue with contradictions here. Stop it!

I will carry it a step further, that, if most Cowboys (are you speaking for "most" Cowboy fans?) fans were truthful (are you saying "most" Cowboy fans are not truthful?),

...
YOUR team, the Eagles, cheered while M. Irvin lay motionless on the ground, POSSIBLY paralyzed. That was REALLY classless.

Hell yeah that was a classless act by some of my fellow fans! I've always loved the way Michael Irvin played football -- he's one of my best NFL personalities/players. I would really have liked to still see him scoring touchdowns. But you're using that old argument to insight and garner support from fellow Cowboy fans to support what you're saying. Actually you're challenging their intelligence because you think they can't see through your weak justification via your use of a sensitive issue between our two teams.

Listen you've heard the expression "two wrongs, don't make a right" well ...there are classless fans in all franchises and in all sports. You choose which side of ethics you'd Like to be placed! So don't try to make your point by pouring salt into some old wounds. That's low!

Our founding fathers fought and DIED for, among other things, the right to freedom of speech. Do not surrender that right for any reason, for any purpose, no matter the rationale.

Yada, yada yada ...listen, I fought -- did you (if you did, I applaud you; if you didn't, then what do you know about putting your life on the line?) Many of my Uncles, and Other relatives spilled American blood. What's your point -- that doesn't belong in this post and it's inappropriate.

Ok, I am off my soapbox now.

You were never on a the proverbial "soap box."

This post is about ethics, not freedom of speech! No one is saying shut up! Some of us are saying sometimes it's best to be quiet and let people suspect you're a fool (third person use) than to remove all doubt by opening your mouth and inserting your foot!

Brought me out of the woodworks here. I'm gonna cut to the chase. We don't like the Eagles. Never have, never will. Talon, no offense, but you post on here like some debating politician. I agree the whole "died for our country" thing was a bit too far, but this whole discussion has gone too far. I think what we are trying to say is..........we don't care if an oppposing teams key player is hurt, and we get the win. It doesn't make it less sweet if we win any other way. A WIN IS A WIN. Your initial debate was, "the true test of a warriors metal can be measured by the fierceness an courage of his enemy". I mean, where do you pull this stuff out? Every team in the NFL is courageous and fierce on any Sunday. I've got couple of quotes for ya Talon. "There is nothing like the sight of an old enemy down on his luck" "win any way as long as you can get away with it. Nice guys finish last" Its football Talon, not the battle of Bunker Hill.

In response to the first comment I think you are dead wrong. This is not about flag waving. This is about the politically correct bandwagon attemting to suppress freedom of speech. You give lip service to freedom of speech, say it is a wonderful thing, but then, give examples of speech that YOU define as unacceptable based on its content. Your point is that they should not be saying it. A fundamental tenet of freedom of speech is that you have to give unpopular speech its due, or there is no freedom of speech at all. Think about that.

If you served in the armed forces, I applaud you for that. On the other hand, that SHOULD make you that much more protective of your own rights, and the rights of others to express themselves. If I had fought for a cause, only to have others give away the rights I fought for, quite frankly it would **** me off to no end.

Lastly, while there is freedom of speech in America (as least to the extent the country hasn't already eroded it) this is a private message board and they can allow or not allow what they want. That being said, these discussions are what make this message board the best.

Also, you should reread my post as there are several things that I did not express an opinion on one way or the other, and you commented about what you THOUGHT my position might be.

Believe it or not, there were reports from local sports radio here that the Eagles were seriously considering playing McNabb for the Chiefs game, then resting him against the Cowboys because they have a BYE the following week (two consecutive weeks of rest). They really do understimate our team.
I doubt those reports were true. A loss to the Cowboys would be much worse than a loss to Kansas City.

My reading of this response is that you are assuming I "hope" for one of your players to get hurt and am bringing up this event to support my position. If that is not what you meant, then I was mistaken. I have not expressed a position on it in this thread, one way or the other, my gripe is with the politically correct police. I thought that was clear.

Just so we are clear...I do not wish injury upon McNabb, but do I still hope he is less than 100% in a couple of weeks (when you play us), yes I do. Do I hope Roy whacks him in the chest, good and hard, yes I do. Do I hope he ends up missing the game? Uh, yes, I do.

Last year I think I commented about Roy putting a good lick on T. Owens and he ended up getting hurt. I am not superstitious though. :laugh2:

What a humanitarian. Oh yeah ...that was as clear as mud.

You've really got a gift ...perhaps you could win the lottery and buy the Cowboys' franchise. But I thought voodoo was illegal ?
