I personally loved this draft!!!

We finally got a big fatty to put in the middle to stop the run, we drafted my boy and fellow UT alumni Overshown, and we got an absolute steal with "Mighty Mouse" in the 6th.

Yeah, we reached for a TE in the 2nd (I would have gone with O'Cyrus myself), but I aint gonna bust their balls over it.
Dallas already have a couple of TEs that are just as good , if not better than the TE that they drafted . I would have drafted O’Cyrus in the second round before reaching for a TE.

Huh? Strange was a really good blocker last year. PSU’s running game took a big step forward with their freshman backs and on many long runs you would see Strange burying people it was alarming because that position and the OL in general was so bad years prior.
Technique and routes are not up to nfl level, both Strange and Kraft are going to need time to develop.

There's not much flash in this class, which is not usually how team owner Jerry Jones does things

Why do people keep repeating this crap??? When was the last flashy move that Jerry(Cowboys) made.
Probably Cooper, but that was a real need.

I think the last time we made flashy moves were the mid 2000's with TO, Roy Williams and Pac Man

We had three games vs. Philly and 49ers this past season. In all 3 games we held those high-octane rushing games to less than 3.6 yards per carry.
....yet lost 2 out of 3 of those games wherein the Dallas offense was shut down in the losses.

Haven't they watched enough football games to comprehend that the team with the most points in the end......WINS!!!!
P.S. Now someone find the leader of our offense and tell him he sucks!!!!

These day after grade grades are useless.....Get back to me in three years to see where these players are in their development.

I don't think we did enough at the skill positions on offense but time will tell. If Gallup can get back to 2019 2020 form we might be ok if Cooks stays healthy. The draft indicates MM was being true to his word when he said he wanted to run the ball more. Something about this year reminds me of the Jimmy Johnson years. Within the division he had to get past Buddy Ryan and the Eagles and to get to the Super Bowl he had to get past the 49ers. Fans should welcome the challenge of competition. That's what makes football so fun.

Luke was the best blocking TE with the traits to develop into the best receiving TE we've had for quite a while. Let's face it TEs usually take a while to start producing in the receiving dept. and his blocking should develop more quickly with the pro style offense Michigan ran. So I see him contributing early. Lunda Wells is a good TEs coach.

Richards is a very experienced OL with strong lower body made for run blocking.

Vaughn and Luepke are great additions, both are good and productive runners and receivers. Vaughn logged 1872 and 1936 yards from scrimmage in 2021 and 2022

Brooks is also a good pick with great hands and ball skills along with good RAC ability.

On defense the needle is pointing up. Our defense is moving in the direction of our playoff nemesis the 49ers. Mazi Smith/Hankins Odighizuwa/Golston/Gallimore/Fehoko Williams Parsons Lawrence Fowler. LVE Cox Clark Overshown. I'm really excited to see DQ turn these guys into the next doomsday defense.

Much like the deep threat I wanted on offense Smith will make the defense better even without getting a lot of stats.

I'm very excited to see how Overshown develops he looks like another high energy player that gets home.

Fehoko is also a high energy/production player that could be very disruptive on running and passing downs. He reminds me of Tuli Tuipulotu who was taken earlier.

Like Bland last year I know nothing about Eric Scott but the fact that they were willing to trade a fifth round pick next year tells me they really liked him.

We got at least one immediate impact player even if it wasn’t until the 6th round . The smallest man in the NFL.

But if our two 1st round picks can start and contribute Day 1 then it is a good draft.

It’s based on reputation because typically we find ourselves with a Micah or a Lamb. Past two years haven’t really been flash drafts.

Despite the childish bashing of Mel Kiper who was celebrating his 40th season on ESPN draft is rightfully credited for the Draft becoming what it is and how it’s covered on the Networks.

And while we might not always agree with how he sees who is picked or his personality he is still the leader in gathering information on potential draft picks.

The only way to steal this draft was to do what the Texans and Eagles did by wheeling and dealing

Thats not the Cowboys way.

Dallas Cowboys: B

Top needs entering the draft: TE, RB, WR, DT, K

After another early playoff exit that saw the offense sputter late in the season, the Cowboys fired coordinator Kellen Moore and promoted Brian Schottenheimer. Coach Mike McCarthy will go back to calling the plays, like he did in Green Bay. With tight end Dalton Schultz leaving in free agency and running back Ezekiel Elliott getting cut, Dallas had holes at both positions heading into the draft, and I thought it could address each of them on the first two days.

In Round 1, however, the Cowboys went a different direction, and I have no qualms about it. Mazi Smith (26) is the best run-stuffing defensive tackle in this class, a 323-pounder who will instantly improve their run defense. Their defensive line too often last season was blown up at the line of scrimmage, so adding an anchor like Smith will help the entire front seven. Look at the other NFC East teams, and Dallas needed to beef up to stop the run.

I would have taken other tight ends over Luke Schoonmaker (58), but he does have intriguing traits. Tucker Kraft and Brenton Strange were available and higher on my board. Schoonmaker will turn 25 as a rookie, so the question is about how much more room he has to develop. DeMarvion Overshown (90) is one of Louis Riddick's favorites in this class; he can be a heat-seeking missile as a blitzer.

Edge rusher Viliami Fehoko (129) had 23 sacks over the past three seasons; I highlighted him as a potential sleeper last December. Running back Deuce Vaughn (212) is a great player in a tiny, 5-foot-5 package. I'd love to see him succeed in Dallas, where his dad is a scout.

There's not much flash in this class, which is not usually how team owner Jerry Jones does things, but I can't knock many of these selections. Dallas did well.

It passed the hair test.
If we pick o Terrence instead of schoonmaker and actually he probably be available in the third then this draft would have been a B+

While true you saw how happy Micah was about finally stopping qb sneaks. It’s not always about averages. If we could’ve stopped the run better maybe we get home field last year? Then our road to the SB is the Giants or Vikings and a 49ers team with Josh Johnson.

It’s not but the Cowboys have shown they draft better than them. I don’t agree with their roster building but they’ve shown that whatever they do in the draft works. They compile mid round picks and go to work. Bland probably saved our defense last season. A rookie mid rounder.

each draft class has to be analyzed differently and this was one where business as usual sometimes doesnt work by standing pat, hence the Schoonmaker pick…….I hope he becomes a baller but we would like to see the FO get more aggressive and move up to increase the odds of getting a difference maker

having said that, I still like and appreciate the Mazi pick

Bland is also a concern because it might not take us over the top.

Taking risk if you know what you’re doing can turn a team around must faster.

Until we can finally knock the championship door down we will continue to get passed by teams who look to make more noise instead of safe, less riskier or Bland drafts which do allow the Cowboys to remain relative.

We finished, I believe, 22nd in the NFL vs the run in yardage surrendered on the ground. Only gave up 9 running TD's though.

8th against the pass, but gave up something like 23 TD's in the air.
Yea, but that's the conceptual approach. With Mazi we're going to (hopefully) get more '3rd and Long' situations + with Gilmore = better field position.

There's also the 'hope' about potential pass-rush abilities, but even if he doesnt reach that potential, his bulk is going to warrant double teaming and help the rest of our rushers (I bet Osa benefits).
