I happen to agree wholeheartedly.

IRVING, Texas -- The NFL draft is five weeks away and the Dallas Cowboys’ needs are certainly obvious, even with what they have done in free agency.

In no particular order, they need running back, defensive line, cornerback, linebacker and offensive line help.

In his recent ESPN Insider column, Mel Kiper Jr. has offered up his best “fits” for teams and came up with Georgia running back Todd Gurley to Dallas. He wrote:

The fit: Dallas is going to have one of the best run-blocking lines in the NFL next season, if not the best. The Cowboys don't need a dancer, they need a player who will get downhill fast and turn a crease into a big run because he's so hard to get to the ground when he hits the second level. Gurley can do that. Dallas added Darren McFadden, but they won't be done at this position.

To me, it all comes down to Gurley’s knee. If it checks out fine, then I can see the Cowboys going in this direction. The only pause I would have is when would he be on the field his rookie year? It’s possible he starts the season on the non-football injury list, and that could cost him the first six games of the season. (It wouldn’t be the physically unable to perform list because he was hurt in college. Bruce Carter was on NFI his rookie year.)

Let's make a move to get Gurley then go DL in the 2nd and ILB in the 3rd.

I sincerely believe that Gurley will go in the mid-teens and I do not condone a trade-up (not that thay care).

Of course it always depends.

The way things are looking now, once pick ten or so happens, there will be little to no difference between those players until the round ends.

The question becomes do we scratch the RB itch early with the best RB prospect (if healthy) in a great class or do we capitalize on depth and take a lesser (albeit healthy) talent instead.

We do like getting the "number one" players at a position if we can.

Gurley's injury issues are a concern, obviously.

I could be completely wrong but I don't recall Gurley having documented "injury issues".

If teams think he will be ready for TC he likely won't be available.

I'm not sure teams are sure when he will actually be ready. I have a hard time thinking he will be a full go come training camp. He will likely be able to work out some, but I would be surprised if he doesn't go on the Pup list.

Why not???

Already tore his acl. It pretty much seems to happen over and over to most guys who have torn It before. Who knows if he'd even be able to play this season. We would most likely be redrafting a rb again in a year or 2

Yeah I'm another one of those that says no way is he 100% in 2015, I just don't see it. He'll, I don't believe Lee will be 100% this season either.

Todd Gurly missed time in his sophomore year with an ankle injury then of course the ACL injury.
I am intrigued by his size and speed but when i watch his highlights I see a guy that runs very reckless. I see a wrecking ball who doesn't show the same ability or desire to avoid contact as Gordon.

What's interesting is Gurly looks so much larger than Gordon yet they are the same height and only 10 pounds difference in weight.

Now I will admit my observation is only based on highlights from the Internet. Haha..

Modern day RBs don't start getting selected until the late 1st sometimes early 2nd. But it's sounding like Gurley could go as early as mid-teens. He's an NFL ready talent that teams view as a special ball carrier. Gordon looks better on paper and it's looking he could be the guy staring at us at 27.

Getting the Number One players at a position is a great thing to do. If we can get Gurley or Gordon, I'm fine with that, as they are nearly interchangeable in talent.
