Melton reportedly might be in trouble for a bar fight--not sure of the details. Any chance he starts the year with a suspension from the commish?

Congrats on the Melton signing. One spot down possibly two if Crawford pans out and several subs, two or three more DL spots to fill.

@fishsports now
Exclusive: #Cowboys Melton contract: 1-yr deal. Gets ALL 3 YRS extension if on roster 1st day of 2015 league year & kicks in Guaranteed $

There we have it, 3 years kick in at once, not separate. Melton very happy there, Dallas gets a one year test drive. Win/Win.

I like it.........we basically get a "1 year test drive" before being on the hook for guaranteed $$$

If he gets hurt again or just plain sucks, we can cut bait and bail on the contract. If he returns to his probowl form, he gets paid accordingly.

I think it's a good deal. Not only do we get to test drive Melton, but we also get to test drive whichever 3-tech we draft. Everyone is so set on Donald, but let's say we draft him and he's (wait for it...) a complete bust. Then we can give Melton his extra 3 years. But I'm all for this deal. We can still draft a guy like Donald and cut ties with Melton after this year. High-reward, low-risk.

Plus you got to factor in the age.

We are getting a guy that is 27, still in his prime. We are not signing some 30+ player looking for one last payday before hanging the cleats up. (although I admit I would like to have Jared Allen).

Agree. From what I'm reading the 3 years would be guaranteed and big so you stack your line with biggest studs and if you get injuries, etc you can deal with it.

The way the cap is going up and the amount of cap Dallas is going to have from here on out its not a problem. Dallas should be somewhere near 20 mil after all dead money and contracts will be paid out. The Cap right now is tentatively 140mil but i think its going to be over that. Maybe 145-147 mil. This jump thats happening right now isnt even the thursday night football deal. This is the new TV deal they struck last yr. This new TV with CBS is going to kick the Cap up alot more.

And Jerry is going to spend his entire cap like he does every yr. Next yr is the first yr of these new rookie deals expiring. So there are going to be quite a few 25-26 yr old FAs. New era of the NFL is about to start. FA is going to be alot hotter with younger talent hitting FA sooner.

And with all of that, the price of players should go up, as well, so you won't have the same buying power with the same amount of money. This only gives us an advantage against broke teams that won't spend money, like Cleveland, Oakland, and Jacksonville.

That's what I expected, if he gets back to 2012 form, he will be worth every penny.If not, Dallas can just say "nvm". That's almost EXACTLY market value for DL this year if I'm not mistaken. According to the contracts of Michael Johnson, Michael Bennett, Lamar Houston...ect

He added this tweet as well:

As I said Henry Melton bet on himself in 2014. Huge payday comes later. $9 m guaranteed in 2015 is huge if he gets it

Civil matter, no criminal case pending that I can find. I bet Jerry makes this go away pretty quickly - local bar.
