Merriweather will be a stud for whatever team he goes too.

In your opinion, the team doesn't need a FS, we get it.
And you're more than welcome to your opinion.
Just like every other fan who posts here is entitled to theirs.

It was probably unlikely we were going to draft one in the first before we signed Hamlin and now that we have signed Hamlin the chances have fallen to slim or none. BPA is nice and all in theory but isn't really practical because there are needs on this team and if there are really good players left on the board and they happen to be positions we need then we're taking them, even if merri and Landry are still on the board, deal with it.

You did sound like a :mule:
You can have your hopes, preferences and opinions - as many as you'd like.
But so can anybody else.
And nobody needs to 'get over it' because their opinions don't match up with yours.

We have 5 players as of today playing two positions, why draft one in the first round?
I'm getting tired of this "Draft a FS in the first round talk" Free Safety is not an issue. Why would we spend a pick on a Free Safety when we have other needs on this team that can be helped with a first round pick this year. If we're going to spend another pick on our defensive backfield why would it be for a safety when there is a much better chance that if we draft CB the Rookie could actually get some playing time. People just have this blind obsession with Free Safeties, it's like they can't live without the boys having the most expensive DB core in the league.
We need help at D. tackle, we could use youth at WR, pass rusher, maybe MLB, maybe OLB, right now with the addition of Hamlin and already having Watkins we don't need a free safety.

adamknite;1461082 said:A lot of people on this board don't seem to think that way I guess.
slick325;1461119 said:Actually guys and gals, NONE of us know what Dallas will do come draft day so definitive statements like Michael's don't hold much weight. At this point we are all opining. Hell, last year I would have never guessed in one million years we would draft Fasano despite having an All-Pro TE. (They didn't begin the two TE base offense talk with the media until everyone was questioning the selection).
All I can say is we will see. Thankfully Dallas has no glaring need so that is a luxury.
adamknite;1461270 said:Trust me, I could of said a lot worse. Get over it was to mean that there are new threads everyday about drafting a free safety and it's getting old. I like reading and commenting on people's ideas and opinions even if they don't match my own. If I don't agree I politely tell them I don't agree and give my response which is the whole idea behind message boards. I'm tired of looking at mock drafts that have us taking a safety in the first and people wanting us to take a safety in the first as if we haven't already invested into the position finally. The whole point of signing Hamlin was so we could mark off another position from our "needs" list, it wasn't so we could draft one in the first and sit them on the bench. My first response if you payed enough attention was one of my typical responses where I said I don't believe we'll be drafting a free safety and I gave reasons why mainly what I've just said. MW responded to me and I responded back then I had somebody tell me I had no idea what I was talking about so I responded with my "get over it we're not drafting a FS in the first round" post. Maybe you should do some research before you bash me.
stasheroo;1461286 said:It's pretty arrogant to feel that something should or shouldn't be discussed because you're 'tired of it'. Until you run or I things around here, it really doesn't matter does it?
I can certainly debate you about whether I feel the team still needs a free safety and I can do it without insulting you or your opinion.
Many fans feel as I do - that Hamlin is a possible fix for a position that has been the Cowboys' achilles heel for several years. Or he could be the next Marcus Coleman for all we know.
I do know that he signed just a 1 year deal and will be looking for his big payday next year.
As for Pat Watkins, we can all hope for the best but he didn't exactly prove capable of being the answer last year.
Those are the two main reasons why many of us can see the Cowboys drafting a quality free safety if one is available at #22.
I'm not saying 'I'm right' or 'you're wrong' here, just stating that opinions vary - and that's OK.
dmoore;1461319 said:Signing Hamlin to a one year deal in no way prevents us from taking a FS if we feel they're the best player available. I don't think we take one in the first, but if Merriweather's there in the 2nd, I'd be tempted to take him. Until we see what exactly we have at FS (Hamlin still needs to show he can be the player he was before the injury), bringing in more options isn't a bad thing at all. We're still looking for that guy that compliments Roy perfectly, and that guy may or may not be on the roster currently. FS has just been such a glarring problem in that past that it's hard to trust what we have until we see how it all meshes together once the season starts.
adamknite;1461327 said:I'm not against taking a FS somewhere in the draft. Not even against taking a FS on the first day. I just don't want (and don't feel like we will) to take a FS in the first round. There is a point where it's overkill trying to fill one position when there are other positions of need on the team.
