I'm honestly shocked that Hos thinks Spears,Colombo and Crayton would fetch Jake Long.

I love trade rumors so...

Spears+Crayton+Martellus

for

Sean Smith+3rd

Essentially Spears for Smith straight up and a 3rd for Martellus. I'm over the Martellus experiment. I'm ready to just take the 3rd, cut the losses and move on. He's going to be a 28 year old still tapping on his "potential" one day.

i understand what your saying about jake long, but to much to give up for long, columbo, spears and crayton,

Too much? Columbo, Spears and Crayton wouldn't get us within a country mile of Long. Maybe Columbo, Spears, Crayton and a 1st. And you know what? I'd probably do that deal.

3 solid players, 2 of them around 30 and a late 1st for a young all-pro LT?

Shenanigans

Long is about as valuable as Ware, any trade idea for him is a waste of time

If we could get Jake Long, I would send them Columbo, Spears, and Crayton and move Free to RT so fast his head would spin.

That said, we can't get Jake Long

Spears did badmouth BP - which is a joke because Spears never did any better under Phillips. However BP has been known in the past to get guys that said nasty things about him. So that is not necessarily a deal stopper. Question is who would the Fins have that we want that we could get for Spears and the answer is nobody. So it comes down to a draft pick. If we got real lucky we might get a 3rd.

I wonder if Dallas would have an interest in any of the Dolphin DB's in a player for player trade. Personally, I don't mind Alan Ball as our starting FS. But not sure I'm real comfortable with him as both the starting FS and 4th CB.
Jason Allen and a 4th.

At this point I would want a player swap unless they give up a 2.

Player for player swaps are difficult because of signing bonuses that get accelerated. I always like to stockpile picks...but there is no way in heck we get 2nd round pick for Spears.

The accelerated signing bonus is definitely a deal breaker during an uncapped year.

At least a 2nd in 2011 and 4th conditional to number of defensive snaps to a 3rd in 2012.

Absolutely...no reason to give up a long time starter unless they make us a deal we can't refuse.

I agree, why should we trade him, good Dlineman are hard to find, unless they plan on giving up something in the 2nd rd range, I say keep Spears in the rotation that we currently have.

The Dolphins are not likely to give up that high of a draft choice for a player on the last year of his contract and one who is not assured to be a starter. The Dolphins still have Kendall Lankford and also Odrick, so I doubt they are desperate after losing Merling who they were not all that happy with to begin with. The best you can look for is a middle round choice and a player who they feel does not fit in their plans any longer. I would as soon keep him than give him up for pittance.

Spears is working on a one year deal. No one is giving up a significant draft pick for a guy like that. Even if he were a better player than he is.

Even if Dallas is really interested in trading him, you have to hold onto him, unless someone does make you a crazy good offer (like a 2nd rounder). You trade him, one guy gets hurt, all of the sudden you've lost your depth on your DL.

IMO, if you're trading him for, say, a 4th rounder, the risk isn't worth the reward.

How many years did Roy Williams have left on his contract with the Lions when Jerry traded for him?

Shoot, if we're using 'house money' in a game of monopoly, why not throw in Park Place for show?

Didn't anyone pay attention to what Jerry was forced to pay for Roy Williams when he came needing a player? Why not just give 'em a free ride to Go and give them an extra $200 as well?

Then you have unreasonable expectations. Exactly what do you think the 7th or 8th option on offense should produce?

not me, i believe in the tom landry rule that landry told parcells, you give a player 3 years if you see potential, but by his 3rd year, he has to make plays and produce

Jerry Jones wanted Roy Williams badly for years and did not want to deal with having to haggle with trying to get him in free agency. I don't think Spears is coveted like that. Just because Jerry Jones got desperate does not mean the Dolphins would be.

Again, Miami has no need to do anything drastic. Spears would not even be a definite lock to even start over Lankford or Odrick. So why would they pay a premium price for him and also have to feel compelled to sign him to an extension? They might trade if it is reasonable, but they are not going to give up the farm and have to pay him to boot.

Making the few plays he gets opportunities for and producing when called upon. Bennett has not done that.
