3 solid players, 2 of them around 30 and a late 1st for a young all-pro LT?

Shenanigans

Long is about as valuable as Ware, any trade idea for him is a waste of time

not me, again, im prejudiced when it comes to our cowboys players, to me columbo should be able to play at least 2-3 more years, and still be productive

spears should be able to play at least 6 years, defensive linemen are hard to come by, that are steady

crayton should be able to play 3 more years and dont forget he can return punts and be productive

i know long is a very good LOT, but again, im biased when it comes to dallas cowboys players

now if it was a player like chris johnson that we were trading for, i would do it in a heartbeat, then turn right around and trade barber

your giving up 3 players that are starters for one player, so your in essence alittle giving up 3 starters for one starter, that weakens your team

Jerry Jones wanted Roy Williams badly for years and did not want to deal with having to haggle with trying to get him in free agency. I don't think Spears is coveted like that. Just because Jerry Jones got desperate does not mean the Dolphins would be.

Again, Miami has no need to do anything drastic. Spears would not even be a definite lock to even start over Lankford or Odrick. So why would they pay a premium price for him and also have to feel compelled to sign him to an extension? They might trade if it is reasonable, but they are not going to give up the farm and have to pay him to boot.

Im not sure if we have enough Roy Williams ruing but he wanted to come here anyway. We could have had him

Yea I guess they still have Langford, I havent heard much about him or Merling but I guess thats the point for 34 DE's. Odrick sucks though. I still think Spears could play some nose.

But it feels like Spears is worth more to us than any team would actually pay.

But then again, they had the same line of thought when the Marty trade came up and that was obviously a mistake.

Your my boy Joe but that crazy. If we are playing Madden here you trade solid players for players like Long in a heartbeat. He would bring so much more to this team than those 3. Its funny that the Dolphins would laugh at that trade and you wouldnt do it :)

i agree with that alittle but with what i said, i would do this; wait till almost end of training camp, be sure you have no injuries in the defensive line yourself, and see if the dolphins are being run on without a good defensive end now, and that would make the dolphins possibly desperate,

then you can make the trade

if they get desperate seeing teams can run on them on that side and no pass rush from the loss of their de, then dolphins might make that push

remember way back when parcells wanted curtis martin, and he traded

now we wont get what parcells gave up to get martin, but at least a # 1 pick or # 2 pick;

best i remember they dont have a number 2 in 2011, so we could possibly make them give us a 1st rounder if their desperate enough

as the old saying goes, wait, son wait, good things come to you sometimes when you wait

kinda like jerry jones said, they would wait and let the draft come to them and when dez got in range to get Dez and Lee, then they traded, but didnt give up farm to get them

I hate to make fun of you because you really mean well, but this is some of the worst logic I have ever seen.

hey buddy, i understand, but like i said, im biased when it comes to our dallas cowboys players, do i tend to hold them to high on a pedestal sometimes, yes

but hey, thats me

but i still think like the tom landry rule, dont give up on marty yet, wait, this is the 3rd year for marty b, now its time for either him to put up or shut up

and i just think now that we have dez and can spread defenses out more with austin, dez, roy williams, ogletree, and witten, that will make teams less likely to cover bennett and he can produce get confidence and really see what it takes to be a pro

and that jason garrett will have him and witten more involved in red zone area

and back to the long trade
now if the dolphins would take spears, crayton, columbo and give us long along with their 3rd draft choice, i would do that,

but i would want a draft pick to boot, your just giving up 3 starters for 1 starter too much to me

Dallas got a market discount due to conditions it was in. That doesn't also mean that Spears still isn't an upward value in a greater market demand for actually good defensive ends fitting into a 3-4 defense. Spears will get value, even if not at a Canty level.

thats my point, spears does have market value, due to need for de in 3-4 defenses

most teams now use the 3-4, not the 4-3, so spears has value, at least a 2nd rounder which you could get pushed to a 1st rounder if a team is desperate enough

There's almost no one on their roster that I would want other than Long, and they won't move him. Send Spears and Crayton for a 1st.
Wouldn't that be lovely.

Then you have unreasonable expectations. Exactly what do you think the 7th or 8th option on offense should produce?

It's really the whole package with him. I don't see him wanting to get better. Why does he have to be the 7th option? With all his "potential" he could MAKE himself the 3rd option..

He is on a team with Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Miles Austin, Felix Jones, Marion Baber.

I think 6th would be the best he could do at his point.

Marcus Spears-DL- Cowboys Jul. 22 - 8:42 pm et

One source tells the Miami Herald that the Dolphins "may" be interested in Cowboys DE Marcus Spears now that they've lost defensive linemen Phillip Merling and Jason Ferguson.

Team president Bill Parcells and GM Jeff Ireland are very familiar with Spears, having been with the Cowboys when he was a first-round pick back in 2005. Dallas offered Spears a lower tender offer than both of his backups, and he was arguably outplayed by both as well. He was reported to be on the trading block prior to the draft.

Heck no! No way should the Cowboys trade away Spears. He's a team guy with high character and has only gotten better. Screw the Dolphins. They'll try and low-ball us into a 3rd or 4th rounder. To some that might sound about right. But to me, Spears is such a great person and teammate, that that alone warrants a second rounder.

Bottom-line, Spears needs to stay!

i agree with you there about parcells trying to get spears for a 4th rounder, but we dont want to call the dolphins, the dolphins have to call us, and its gonna cost bill

if i was jerry jones, the phone conversation would go like this
Joe: hello, oh hi bill parcells, how can i help u
parcells; well i was checking to see if your still interested in trading spears
Joe: maybe, what are you offering
parcells; a 4th rounder
Joe; thats real cute and funny parcells, but if you want to get serious gonna cost you much more

parcells; listen here you blankety blank, i helped you rebuild the cowboys, and put image back on the star you owe me
joe; nope parcells, you owe me now; you got fasano and a linebacker and fergueson for nothing, and did i or did i not, just put you back on the market that you could become a gm, but not a head coach or it would cost a team high draft picks;

parcells, yeah you blankety son of ..... you did, but were even now
joe; correct, now, you owe me parcells and its gonna cost you or else you can see your season go down the tubes because you dont have a decent DE to stop the run and pass rush;
parcells, listen here you ..... you have better trade me spears for that low draft pick or else
joe; oh yeah big mouth parcells, either you fork over a 2nd rounder that could develop into a 1st rounder due to amount of playing time and playoff games, or you dont get spears, its gonna cost you parcelley

parcells, well you know i have to have him you have me over a barrel you son of a gun, way to stick to your guns, ok, lets work out paramaters of the trade like you want. I need spears badly.
