Roaf looked terrible today, he got beat by Jared Allen on a bullrush too. He's been out with an injury, he's obviously not 100%.

One other note, Merriman came from a 3-4 system, right? This is new to Ware...

no one has brought this up which suyprised me is that right now Ware is commanding double teams, i havent seen merriman play much but i doubt teams r scheming against him and just because he is bigger doesn't mean hes better, id take Ware raw athleticism over Meriman because he has a great attitude and is off to a great start like someone said earlier sacks dont tell the whole story... JMO. im Glad we got Ware no regrets.

You really can't compare the two. The defensive philosophy's of each team are different, though they both employ the 3-4, Merriman and Ware are asked to do different things within the scheme.

Also, though this is just a hunch, I believe Parcells is "hiding" Ware's talents a little bit. I think we'll see Ware move around alot more in the second half of the season.

I know that on at least 2 of the sacks I've seen Merriman get, he went unblocked...not too hard to make plays like that.

fyi - i quit reading anything you type when i see things like "only getting by w/talent"...

i don't really care what you're doing, but you seem to be trolling for an argument. ware is a legit candidate for rookie of the year and that's fantastic for us. *if* merriman *is* doing at least as well, great and i'm happy for him and the chargers.

what i am SO FREAKING TIRED OF are the people who didn't get their pet pick at draft so they must give us a play by play breakdown throughout that given players career and every time merriman gets a sack you may feel the need to start something like this all over again.

jackson is a ram.
merriman is a charger.

two recent threads that bring this to mind.

it's just a pain to see people complain play by play vs. waiting to see how the careers go.

Too bad we couldn't have gotten both Merriman and Ware. Can you imagine both those terrors on opposite sides? Yikes!

I saw Ware bull doze the biggest tackle in the NFL to the QB and with his left arm knock McKnown to the ground yesterday.

Is that a sign of weakness folks? CrazyCowboy may be Crazy but I say HELLO NO!

These two guys are two completely different players.

Ware is Lawrence Taylor.

Merriman is Carl Banks.

Has Merriman been moved to starter yet or is he still down the depth chart and primarily coming in on passing downs? Ware is on the field in both run and pass downs. That is something that I dont believe I have seen mentioned before in this thread.

Ware just came off a 6 pressure day. He also was killer in the run game. I don't care how merriman is playing, Ware is doing great. Also, in the beginning of the year, merriman got his two sacks by being unblocked. Ware is more likely to get doubled than go unblocked.

Merriman is a physical freak with absolutely great talent and was a guy I lobbied for.

All that said if given a do-over I take Ware who to me looks like a guy who can follow in Greg Ellis' footsteps and be a career Cowboy who has zero attitude issues and plays hard even when hurt for 10 years or so.

Merriman may make more All-Pro teams but also may end up playing on 3 or 4 different teams.

Physically I'd prefer Merriman but when you consider the whole package Ware is the best choice IMHO.

You would think those "plethora of moves" would give Merriman a considerable edge in sacks and tackles. Ware doubles him in both (according to NFL.com). Granted, Ware played in two more games then Merriwoman has but who cares? How many times was Ware one step away from getting a sack? How many times has Ware led to another player, ala Roy Williams, to get a sack due to the attention they give him? Who was responsible for Henry's INT TD return? He had about 7 QB pressures, on top of it all.

He has a better attitude then Merriman and he didn't hold out. No competition here.

BTW- I've seen Ware succesfully use a speed rush to the outside, bull rush his guy, and fake a speed rush out, only to cut back in for the sack. I'm not saying he's got alot of moves, but whoever says he can only do "one thing" is flat out wrong.

Ware has 4 sacks and several critical pressures as does Merriman. Both are solid players, but from what I've seen Ware looks like he has unlimited potential to grow. He's faster than Merriman but not as big.

That pressure against Davis to force the bad throw to Henry was simply awesome. Ware chose that moment to impose his will on the game and blew the NFL's biggest player backwards. He knocked McCown flat on his butt just using one arm. Anyone who saw that play and still questions his strength is kidding themselves-- he's the total package and will only get better.

Just because he laid some old has been RB out doesn't mean he's the be-all end-all. He will be good, however, a lot of his hype is coming from the hit they showed on Primetime.

I very pleased with the play of Ware, here is a guy who was a down lineman in college who is transitioning to the OLB spot were his responsibilities have increased but as he becomes more reactionary his effectiveness will increase. Yesterday going up against Davis, Ware was able to apply a lot of pressure and caused the int that helped cap the game off. I have nothing negative to say about Merriman, SD got their guy and we got ours

I have seen Merriman play this year and he is going to be a good player but he may be stronger than Ware right now, But Ware is more agile than him, I think it is a situation were either player would have been a good pick. But I happy we have a real past rusher who can make plays for us.
