If Cole Kmet was in this draft class would you say he is still worth a first rounder after watching him play in the NFL?

Compare that to Michael Mayer.

Mayer looks good at everything but will this guy ever be anything more then just a solid TE?

I think we already have a solid TE on the roster.

Now could he be the next Witten type? Sure but good luck projecting that because the guys skill set is just a dime a dozen to me.

I think he’ll be a good pro but will he ever validate a 1st?

Also consider how many TEs we see go in the first round and it usually takes them time to develop and just never seems worth it.

Mayer is a little more polished catching the ball coming out but yea it’s a fair comp.

People keep throwing around Witten as the comp which is awful. Witten was bigger, longer and faster.
Interesting points. I wonder if Mayer is the number 2 tight end on the Cowboys board. Washington has the measurements but lacks production.

Not remotely similar in game footage and definitely not with regards to stats.

If somebody does one of those re-drafts in a couple of years, Mayer will be top 5 from this draft.

Format: Catches, Yards, TDs

Stats for 3 seasons (Both player at Notre Dame):
Cole Kmet
60, 691, 6

Michael Mayer
180, 2099,18

Mayer Single Season vs Kmet's 3 season total

Cole Kmet (3 seasons)
60, 691, 6

Michael Mayer (2022)
67, 809, 9

Michael Mayer (2021)
71, 840, 7

I have hard time not seeing Mayer as a 70-800 guy with TD production. I think that is a very safe projection. But will he ever be a 900-1,000 yard guy? To be fair, 1,000 yards for a TE isnt very common

I think he’ll just be a safety valve type.

No real ability to stretch the field vertically at the NFL level I think.

Compare him to someone like Jamyr Gibbs. Gibbs is going to be a explosive playmaker at the next level.

Mayer is likely just going to be solid.

I prefer more of a modern day TE who is a mismatch in the passing game, have Kincaid higher, but Mayer is also an excellent prospect at the position.
Yeah even the dude from Oregon State.

This talk about Washington in the 1st is absolutely insane to me. He’s a great blocking TE with borderline zero pass catching production.
Washington is the opposite of Mayer. If you put both of them together you would have the greatest tight end prospect of all time. Both are top 30 prospects for the Cowboys.

Like if you wanted to be super safe Mayer is a great pick.

Look at Darnell Washington though. Dude is a riskier pick but that’s your potential Gronkowski type.

Blocking size and speed is all Gronk like.

Mayer has the highest floor at the position, but Kincaid has the much higher ceiling. Not saying he can become Kelce, but if he was like Zach Ertz, would be an excellent pick.

I think Mayer will be a 50/60 catch guy and around 600ish yards.

Rock solid for a TE, but most of the guys doing that in the NfL aren’t 1st roundersz

I think he will be better than that. I think Shultz 2021 will probably be his norm

Your recent comments on the guy made me actually take a look (not paying as much attention to the draft as I usually do).

I tend to agree. I’m not seeing anything particularly special. Doesn’t appear to be matchup problem for a secondary. Looks a little slow in fact.

Yeah….probably a guy who isn’t awful, but not worthy of a 1st…eventually.

My gut tells me strongly that he is the pick since Kincade will probably be the first off the board before 26.

I feel like Ferguson can already do that.

No need to waste a pick when that guy is already on the team.
Maybe. I think of Ferguson as more a Cameron Brate type. A really good #2 TE that is a passable starter. Ferguson does make Washington an interesting option, because Washington already gives you what Ferguson won't. And he has the ability to give you more as well

I had a dream the other night that I was watching ESPN or NFLN and the news scroller along the bottom of the screen showed us trading a 2nd round pick for Kyle Pitts on draft day.

People get caught up in his production and bad QB play but I don’t care about that.

He just looks like a good solid player and I’d rather shoot for the moon with my 1st pick.

I’d be cool with Kincaid but Mayer would not get me excited at all. Just a blah pick. I wouldn’t hate it but doesn’t really move the needle.
