I had a dream the other night that I was watching ESPN or NFLN and the news scroller along the bottom of the screened showed us trading a 2nd round pick for Kyle Pitts on draft day.
If we’re interested in TEs and Atlanta would do it I’d give up a 1 for Pitts.

He’s still got time left on his rookie deal too.

If Cole Kmet was in this draft class would you say he is still worth a first rounder after watching him play in the NFL?

Compare that to Michael Mayer.

Mayer looks good at everything but will this guy ever be anything more then just a solid TE?

I think we already have a solid TE on the roster.

Now could he be the next Witten type? Sure but good luck projecting that because the guys skill set is just a dime a dozen to me.

I think he’ll be a good pro but will he ever validate a 1st?

Also consider how many TEs we see go in the first round and it usually takes them time to develop and just never seems worth it.
Clearly you have something personal against Mayer despite all your 'denials'
Probably because he went to Notre Dame

Just a lazy comparison because they went to the same school. Anyone who watched both guys careers would tell you Mayer is the far superior player. That feels like a very "I watched both guys highlights" level analysis. Watch the tape and review the full body of work.

Don't think I'm convincing anyone on Mayer at this point. People have made up their inds one way or the other on him (honestly seems like the most polarizing Cowboys prospect right now). Willing to bet anyone $10 he makes multiple Pro Bowls though. Any takers?

Some of you are way too hung up on metrics and not enough on production. All Mayer does is get open and make plays. He is also a good blocker. At 26 in the draft grand slams or home runs are unlikely. A solid double beats a bust though.
A big part of drafting is projection. I think a lot of people don’t see a dynamic Travis Kelce tight end. Rather, they see a good/reliable volume guy.

Who knows? I’m not an NFL scout and don’t pretend to be like many here like you do. I get it, it’s fun to pretend but I’ll give the FO the benefit of the doubt because they’ve shown to be much better at this than any Zoner.

i'm an irish homer.
mayer is the best notre dame te i've seen.
always gets open.
excellent hands.
excellent blocker.
strong.
tough.
i'd turn his card in and be happy to do so.
he causes problems for opposing defenses and made drew pyne look like a competent qb.
if te is their prefered target at 26...i hope its the mayer of south bend.
♧cheers and go♧irish!

I have hard time not seeing Mayer as a 70-800 guy with TD production. I think that is a very safe projection. But will he ever be a 900-1,000 yard guy? To be fair, 1,000 yards for a TE isnt very common

Kincaid might end up with better receiving stats but Mayer with be a complete TE not just an over-sized WR.

Taking Musgrave over Mayer sounds crazy.
Not saying I would take him over Mayer at all.

I just would like a player that’s more explosive with my first round pick and Mayer is the type of TE that everyone would love in 1995 but not so much in 2023.

I don’t see him as a vertical threat.

I feel like anything he can do Ferguson can as well.

I dunno…unless one of these TEs is a clear high upside low floor guy, I’d rather just roll with Fergushot and a mid round pick in a deep TE draft.

Give me a ready to play OL at 26. Watch and see if we aren’t heavily relying on that guy by December.
