The class of 2012 has a chance to be special.

Brett Favre
Larry Allen
Jonathon Ogden
Michael Strahan
Warren Sapp
Junior Seau

I did not know this, but the Hall of Fame changed their criteria for induction. A maximum of 5 and 2 from the Senior's Committee.

Looking at the six above, who would you exclude?

Would any of you be surprised if Larry Allen isn't the excluded one above? It won't me. They've already speculated he might be because OG isn't a sexy position.

If Larry Allen isn't a first ballot Hall of Famer that is just beyond stupid. No way on this earth I put Sapp or Ogden there ahead of him. Squat and watch, the Hall of Fame probably will.

I think Favre, Allen, Strahan are locks.

Espn has written a couple of pieces making a compelling case for Sapp, even tho he pretty much had a forgettable end to his career in Oakland.

I just don't think HOF when I think of Seau. I think he's had a very good career, but I can't think of anything that would stand out to make him a HOFer.

Ogden great left tackle. HOFer? Hmm.

Sapp will be the odd man out. I'm not sure he is first ballot worthy anyway. The other 5 look like first ballot locks to me.

If for no other reason, Ogden deserves to be left out for this commercial monstrosity alone:

I agree about Sapp probably being on the bottom of that list. I think that Allen will be ahead of Ogden and Seau as well. Besides playing OK for a really long time, Seau was never really a dominate/game-changing LB.

I agree with the notion that Sapp isn't probably a first ballot HOF but you have to remember the Cowboy anti sentiment which could definitely work against Allen.

THe HOF committee is made up of a bunch of sportwriters who have no business determining who gets in the HOF and who doesn't. They are all bias in one way or another and hate certain teams and players.

That is one reason the MLB HOF and NFL HOF will always be incomplete.

The only thing HOF about Sapp is his mouth.

Favre and Seau are locks.

Per M & M, John Clayton said Sapp is more of a lock than Strahan.

Not in my book, just repeating.

I don't believe Sapp is a 1st ballot guy. But it won't shock me if he gets in and Larry gets the shaft.

Seeing both that list and taking the selection criteria into account, it wouldn't surprise me if the 2012 class consists of Favre, Allen, Strahan and two Seniors Committee nominees--for a total class of five inductees. I can see Ogden, Seau and Sapp having to wait a year or two before being voted into the Hall.

Favre is the only true "lock" IMO. Putting Seau on his level is showing their ignorance

Believe a player must be retired 5 years before he can be considered. Junior Seau is playing this year so he won't meet that requirement--which leave us with 5 players. Think Larry Allen makes it into the HOF in his first year. He might also be helped by ending his 2-3 year career with the SF 49ers. Besides LA was a pro bowler at 3 OL positions (RG/RT/LG) & IMHO the most dominant OL player of his generation. Also he wasn't a high profile player like the Triplets which should lessen the anti-Cowboy bias.

Belichick may force Seau to make a decision...

Pats still undecided on Seau
AP

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the team has not made a decision on whether to bring 39-year-old linebacker Junior Seau back for another season.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the team has not made a decision on whether to bring 39-year-old linebacker Junior Seau back for another season.

"I don't think it's closer to having a commitment one way or another," Belichick said after wrapping up the team's two-day passing camp on Thursday. "We're just not there yet. ... I'd say it would probably be closer to training camp than mini-camp."

Rookie draftees, including first-round pick Jerod Mayo, joined fellow linebacker Victor Hobson and other veterans new to the team for a second day of passing, blocking and special teams drills.

Belichick was back in his familiar position straddling two practicing fields while wielding a whistle. Belichick and his coaches tutored Mayo and Hobson and other players new to the team for a second day of passing, blocking and special teams drills.

"We don't have pads on and some of these (guys) are doing things for the first time," Belichick said. "It's hard to evaluate anybody when they do something once. You teach it to them, they don't do it well, you correct them and they come back and do it the next time and the next time."

Belichick said these are valuable days leading up to June's mini-camp and the opening of training camp in late July.

"When everybody knows what they're doing and have a little bit of confidence and they've done something previously, then they have a fair chance to go out there to do it against somebody else," Belichick said.

Many of the players on hand the last two days in Foxborough will return on Monday as the Patriots continue their offseason program.

"For us rookies, we're just still trying to absorb the system and be able to execute it as fast as we possibly can and show we can digest it," said third-round draft choice Kevin O'Connell, who's looking for a roster spot after being drafted out of San Diego State last month.

Despite the option of bringing back Seau, the Patriots were determined to get younger at the linebacker position this offseason.

In addition to the free agent Hobson, the Patriots added Mayo, third-round draft pick Shawn Crable out of Michigan and sixth-round pick Bo Ruud from Nebraska in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Check this freaking HOF Class out.

Brett Favre, 9 Pro Bowls, 7 All Pro

Junior Seau, 12 Pro Bowls, 7 All Pro

Larry Allen, 11 Pro Bowls, 7 All Pro

Michael Strahan, 7 Pro Bowls, 6 All Pro

Jonathan Ogden, 11 Pro Bowls, 9 All Pro

Warren Sapp, 8 Pro Bowls, 6 All Pro

That is 58 Pro Bowl selections, 42 All Pro.

I'm telling you, the HOF Voters will find a way to snub Larry.

For all those asinine "look at the OLine Emmitt Smith got to play with" arguments we have to endure, Allen better be a first ballot HOFer.

What I think and what happens with the Hall of Fame are usually two different things.

Having said that, there is no way Warren Sapp is a first-ballot guy IMO.

At least we have 5 years of whining about a HOF bias to look forward to.:bang2:

Oops! I change my mind about Ogden and Seau, but I'll stay firm about my opinion of Sapp's election. If the selectors snubb Allen for Sapp, the anti-Cowboys for the Hall conspiracy theory gains even more credibility in my book.

You're high. Larry Allen is THE most dominant lineman of his era. He's been All-Pro at almost every position on the line. His beat downs on defensive lineman is legendary.

Sapp is a big mouth just above average DT that I'm sure if you searched for tape of the two matched up, Sapp back would be covered in grass stains.

He will never make it into the HOF.
