Young coaches learn just like young players learn. He will learn from this year and will be a very good coordinator. But in my opinion, he will be an even better head coach.

Just curious ... what could you have possibly have seen that makes you think that other than blind faith?

To me his biggest weakness isn't his unimaginative X's and O's, although that's laughably ironic to me since this bill of goods has been sold to us under the premise that he's supposedly so much smarter than everyone else because he has a fancy degree, but rather the lack of leadership and persona. His unit completely fractured during the season, splintered into cliques and openly called him out in the media repeatedly. If the WRs are running their own routes and willfully ignoring their assignments, that's essentially open mutiny towards Garrett. His ability to handle his players has been nothing short of a disaster.

I think it's a legitimate conversation to wonder if a lot of those things would have happened had TO not gone on tv and said what he said, had the owner not backed the player, had the QB not been getting hit every time he dropped back while waiting for the star receiver to get open...

But those things did happen. Frankly, I don't know if Garrett can overcome all of that in Dallas, even if he is certain to be a great head coach. And I think that issue is still very debatable anyway.

But I believe it's hard to lead a locker room that has TO in it. And I think Garrett and the other coaches didn't do a very good job of it.

Can it all be remedied? I'm sure wins would make a lot of it go away. But I think we would still have the same front-running team that would have more mutinies in the face of adversity.

TO never called out crappy play-calling and his coach when he was in Philly... Romo, the QB, is on the side of TO... Roy Williams too... Crayton as well... And even players like Newman...

Why is it so hard to have a reasonable conversation on this site?

Why is it that folks take a legitimate point, position it at its extreme, and then take the fallibility of it on that extreme position as proof it is altogether invalid.

Is there anyone here who would argue that playcalling has NO bearing on the success of an offense? Is there anyone here who would argue that Jason Garrett has zero responsibility for the teams offensive failures?

Of course not.

Some think Garrett's 2008 shortcomings should cost him his job in Dallas. Others are inclined to believe he can correct them in 2009 and beyond. That's certainly fair enough. No one knows for sure!

But when folks argue at the extremes, suggest Garrett is an idiot and vice-versa, it accomplishes nothing. Truly, are people just not capable of recognizing the validity to both sides of an argument?

It would seem so.

You have always been sensible, Coco.

So you know the game better than Mike and Nate?

Cool.

I'm not saying I know the game better. I'm just not a fan of ex players whom played 10-12yrs ago comparing how they play the game to how the players play the game now. IMO, The players are faster, stronger, and smarter. And they'll be even better in the next 10yrs. For example: A player like Ed Reed will make more teams look for Safteys like him. Can you imagine being a QB having to face both a FS and SS with Ed Reed and Troy P. abilities?

I just think that Irvin's "spirituality and mental aspects" gets the best of him sometimes on his radio show.

As far as Nate goes... I seem to agree with him more on alot of issues.

I disagree with the bolded. Why would they be smarter?

In fact if anything, the show business nature the sport has taken on, the focus on the highly marketable individual instead of the team concept and the transient nature of free agency has made for dumber players - football wise. Guys who play for their stats and not for each other.

In this case I think they would be wise to listen to the older guys.

I agree, you SHOULD listen to the older guys.

When I meant by smarter, I certainly didn't every player. :D

I'm aware that every team has some dumb dumb spinkles on it, but not too many.

IMO, the type of players you mention has been around since the NFL has began.

while I agree that simple plays will work when you have determined players....it's also true that IT JUST WILL NOT WORK against GREAT defenses which were the ones we faced down the stretch, if JG just said hell we'll just try our normal stuff then HE SHOULD BE FIRED....
